Fred what is so special about a Honda "F" series engines?

I googled "F" Series Honda engine and came up with SOHC engine.

Would it be more impressive if they allowed a DOHC engine? Then

I would say "Hell....o Honda"..lol!

Sincerely,

Larry Otani:applaud:

This is good news, there are plenty of these engines available for not much $$$. Hopefully they will allow it ro run. The Subaru and Quad 4 were also good but USAC made them illegal. Maybe a working man could run midgets again!:thumb

Well, since they're leaving F1 they need some place to play.

Ive always said that a Honda B18 non Vtec bored to 1.98 litres would be almost unstoppable down the front stretch at Phoenix.

Could you imagine over 300hp with 13,000 rpms?

Not to mention, one can build a full dry sump, forged rods, pistons, & crank.... all aluminum engine for around $12,000.... BRAND NEW.

Moroso, Dart and Eagle make all the parts already.

If you didn't want to do that, just buy a B18 non vtec from the junk yard, throw some ARP hardware into her, some good rods and pistons, and go racing. The thing will support 10,000 rpms with the stock block.

Isn't this the same engine that some guys have been running (and winning with) in BCRA on the West Coast? Also, Skeet Bushor from PBH Indy ( pbhindy.com ) has been developing one, and running in throughout Indiana. The basic version without all the fancy titanium should be under 20k from what I hear while still putting out plenty of horses to be competitive on short tracks. Certainly better than dropping 40k or more on some of the other midget engines that are available these days.

It has won a couple of races on the west coast but I believe it's been temperamental in development. If someone gets it figured out, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be competitive in POWRi or BMARA.

I believe you are right. As I remember, that was the original idea but Honda wasn't interested in sponsoring the development or the series.

I heard last year that Fontana was supposed to be working with Honda Racing Development to debut the new USAC legal motor. Kind of their answer to Toyota's midget motor
