Penske Shocks
 

Ok got some penske shocks for a screamin deal BUT have no idea how to adjust them. Guy told me to change the air pressure in them to make them stiffer or softer. Can anyone help me with this need to know how to adjust at the track

If you don't know anything about them, I suggest sending them to a Penske rebuilder(someone who knows about the types of cars you are running) and he can get you close on the VALVINGS you need. Valvings are not air(nitrogen) pressure, but the internal valving and shim stacks control the bleed rate of the oil inside to control the compression/rebound of the shocks.

The shocks are gas over oil and the nitrogen keeps the oil from cavitating and foaming. The amount of air pressure causes stem pressure and it will act as somewhat a stiffiner/softener but it isn't designed to be used where the gas controls the compression/rebound.

Say if the track is rough, you can use more gas to help control the RR shock rate and keep it from foaming. The opposite is true for a slick track as you can take gas away and allow the car to travel because you don't need as much rate control.

I'll be honest and say that I am not a shock rebuilder and some of the ways I have described the shocks may not exactly be text book accurate, but I understand what I am saying and I apologize if some of my info is not spot on.

The Penske is a great shock and they aren't as complicated as it may sound to work with, but you need to know the basics of what you are dealing with to use them properly.
