Mounting of Fuel and Power Steering pumps

I was at Kokomo this weekend and noticed a lot of guys with their Power Steering Pump and Fuel Pump mounted inside the car right above the bell housing. My question is what are they running off of? Is there a gear on the back of the crank or something? I am putting an older Fontana in a car and my Kinsler fuel pump is currently mounted on the back of my oil pump which is driven off of the crank with a belt. I'm just not sure how to put my KSE ( black ) power steering pump on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I gotta assume you're talking about the midgets, Sprints have ran them that way for years. There is a "spud", that screws into the camshaft, and that's what's driving it. You may, or may not be able to do that on a Fontana. Bob

Hey thanks man. That is exactly what I needed to know, but some of them seemed too low to be off of the cam though...

This is a typical sprint car rear motor plate. The torque ball housing
mounts to the lower hole and the power steering and fuel pump mount
in the upper hole. The crank centerline and camshaft centerline are not
as far apart as one might imagine.

Your cam should be drilled and tapped with left hand threads. The spuds come in different lengths and you can measure to figure out which one you need. Be very careful on a Fontana not to put forward pressure on the cam once the p/s pump is bolted in as it will cause the plate holding the cam in place to sieze to the cam and lock the engine after a few seconds of running. Been there...done that. Voice of experience!

the fontana engine has a gear to gear cam drive therfore as the other post said it turns in the oppisite of a sprint car. also most of the cam holes are a 5/8 thread instead of 9/16. I do stock them for the Pink motors that we overhaul.
