Note, None of those teams are ahead on $$$$ when covering expenses. But add in T shirt sales and other things for the driver who's making 40-50% and they are doing well.

Wolfgangs book is probably over 20yrs old and he said a bad year was 300k

Marks, Macri and Dietrich have all raced more than 40 times as compared to most WoO drivers who have only raced around 32 times. Over time, Sweet Schuchart and maybe Schatz will likely surpass at least Dietrich and possibly Macri. Marks is a top 5 team nationwide so he should stay in top 5 earnings wise.

The thing about these teams are they are well funded and don't necessarily need to depend upon the winnings to keep operating. Yes, winning matters and pays bills, but I'm sure NOS, NAPA, Drydene are paying pretty penny to be on those cars. One of the best funded cars in the country is Brian Brown and he only races regionally.

Teams such as Dietrich probably do depending on winnings more than the others. I think Marks and Macri are ok if they don't win as much. Also, most of them have owners that need to race for financial reasons. Owners such as Quiring, Stenhouse/Marshall, CJB have to race or the gov't is going to take it come tax time.

One thing to keep in mind some of these drivers are also on annual retainers by the owners whether they win or lose. So the numbers they are putting up are probably understated compared to the winnings.

-Sweet has 1 win all year and still has over $100K at the 1/3 of the season with the big money races to come.
-Macri and Marks shows how lucrative it can be to race around home. Albeit, Marks has two wins of $20K on the road(Devils Bowl and Portsmouth)
- Dietrich shows hitting the road for short stints can be rewarding.
-Courtney probably doesn't even make this list until winning the Dirt Cup, which is almost 50% of his winnings YTD, I get it, It all counts, but it slants the average $'s/performance

Its quite interesting how this all works and it will look different once the month of money is concluded.

Is any race team ahead when it comes to covering expenses? :D:32:

As I was told once by a sprint car owner, "Want to make a small pile of money in sprint car racing?"
"Start with a big pile of money".

List confirms what we already knew, most of the big $$$ is in the wings.

This is a wild guess on my part, but I guess that Jonathan Davenport has won the most prize money on the dirt late model side of the ledger.

After winning the Eldora Million a few weeks ago I'd say your correct.
