Dave Darland
Why was Dave Darland in the 17x car last night?
|
The 71p had mechanical issues in hot laps so he jumped in the Dutcher backup car.

Re: Dave Darland
Thank you. I was beat after Tristate and went home.

Re: Dave Darland
It doesn't sound good for the Phillips team at this point. I hope everything works out for all involved, but at the end of the day, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Much respect and support for Steve and Carla

Re: Dave Darland
The People's Champ is having a rough year. Saw a Facebook post where people were doggin' him today. Hopefully he can find a decent ride to take him through the rest of the season as far as USAC is concerned.

Re: Dave Darland
I seen a post on FB that said they were going to have a talk about the future of the team (Phillips) IDK what it is, Seems mechanical s are eating them up. They did get a fast time and fourth at the Burg. I wish them well. Car owners are a rare breed and they've had very high highs and very low lows. Oval Nationals and ISW second place three years ago. and two of three smack down wins.
DD's still got the chops, He won at Kokomo in the Hery car over JG. Got a second to KT a Midget week Burg also in Hery Car, Was running well at No way out. Here's the thing though, Several teams are having their own problems. Grant hasn't been as Dominating. Windom isn't either. Boespflug had a month from hell trying to get forward bite.lk Just wish all the teams and drivers the best. Putting it in the trailer with the driver and car in one piece is a good night no matter how frustrating it can be at times. |
Re: Dave Darland
I remember he looked really good at one of the races at Bloomington this year, maybe the Burton Memorial, but then had something mechanical happen. Did win the BC Double. He'll be okay.

I really feel for the Phillips team. They lost a motor the first night of the season at Ocala, hurt another during the flip at Lawrenceburg, and then apparently lost two more at Haubstadt and LPS. That is a LOT of money for any team, but esp. for a small under sponsored team like the 71P team. I sure hope they can find a way to make it through the season.

Re: Dave Darland
I am glad something about Dave was posted because I have really wanted to mention something about him and his run at a recent race. There really hasn't been much talked about the great run Dave had at Springfield on July 3rd. I could be mistaken but I think he started around 22nd and ran his way up to 4th running a completely different line than anyone else. Dave ran the bottom and there were lots of other cars running the bottom but Dave was running it a little differently and was the fastest car on the track. If there had not been a couple of untimely yellows where Dave had to give positions back I am sure he would have run 2nd and he may have even won it. It was a spectacular run that didn't get much press. With all that said condolences to the Graybrook family with the loss of Paul.

Re: Dave Darland
Hello IOW racing friends,
While on the DD subject, does anyone know if Dave will be racing a Silver Crown car at Springfield? I will be heading up to Oswego for some supermodified racing today. Will be back for the Bettenhausen 100. Thanks, Have a good day...see you at the races, Rich - Midwest Connection |
Dave has changed his picture on his FB page to the Hery 40. Someone commented on his picture that Dave will be in the #40 car for the rest of the season, as the Phillips Motorsports team has parked the sprint car for the rest of the season. No idea if the comment is based on fact or fiction.

Re: Dave Darland
Not sure, He's already driven the 40 in several races.
If he shows up in the 40 he's a threat to win. Especially Smack Down. The reason Phillips is parked is totally understandable.. Thanks to the Phillips, Frank Daigh and everyone who helped with that team. No matter how tough it's been, We enjoyed watching. |
For those of you that did not already know, Phillips Motorsports posted on FB today that they are parking the sprint car for the rest of the season. They do still plan to campaign the Silver Crown car at Springfield, DuQuoin and Eldora.
Here is the text from their post: This is very difficult to write, but bear with me. With our motor blowing up last Sunday in hotlaps at Putnamville, and the year just not going the way as planned, we have decided to park the sprint car for the rest of this year. Want to thank Dave Darland for his perseverance through our bad luck to this point. Definitely want to thank our wonderful friends/sponsors who stick with us through thick and thin - Frank and Jill Daigh; Bruce and Sandy Dalton; Jim Heather; Chris Brown; and Chris Jockish, along with friends Lisa Lengerich, Kyle Hendershot and Farmer Joe. Thanks to our sponsors who were with us this year - Britt Aero, Green Auto, Curb Records, MVT, RG, Bookwalter Trucking, Shafer's Collision/Dream Trips, Lucas Oil, Wilwood, Hoosier Tire, DRC Chassis, Foxco Engines, Leader's Edge, Rod End Supply, Winters, PAC Racing Springs. Thanks to the USAC crew for your support throughout the year - Spridge, Levi, Stacy, Rich and crew. We appreciate you all! Lastly (but certainly not last in our hearts), thanks to our crew for helping us get through race to race - Jerry Parsons, Shawn Harper, Cale Shields, Eric Smith - could definitely not have went as far as we did without you. We are hoping to race the Silver Crown car at the remaining three dirt races - Springfield, DuQuoin, Eldora. Hope to see you all there! |
Re: Dave Darland
Darland was in the Hery #40 at Limaland tonight (Friday).
|
Didn't lose a motor in Ocala. Lost oil filter and hurt motor. Didn't hurt motor at Burg, destroyed car and most everything on it. Didn't lose motor at Haubstadt, lost gears in rear which more than likely caused failure on Sunday.

Re: Dave Darland
