HMMMMMM MUST OF CHANGED
YELEY RETURNS FOR ANOTHER TRY AT “HUT HUNDRED”
In 2003 J.J. Yeley took home an all-time record 24 USAC feature trophies. One that eluded him was the “Hut Hundred” Midget race at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track. On October 4 he’ll return for another try at one of America’s prized victories in the 100-lap race which is scheduled to start 33 cars, three-breast. The race is sponsored by First Financial Bank and presented by Dorsett Mitsubishi.

Yeley, of Phoenix, Ariz., is slated to drive the Triple Crown Racing Hot Hues/Husqvarna Spike/Stanton at Terre Haute after wheeling another car to a sensational victory in last Saturday’s “4-Crown Nationals” at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The Eldora win came in his first USAC Midget start since late-2007 and he was piloting Terry Klatt’s Beast/Esslinger Ford.

“Obviously I feel like I can win or I wouldn’t be running,” says Yeley. “We’ve got a brand new version of the Mopar engine for Terre Haute and I’m looking forward to adding that race to my resume. It’s a race with a lot of great tradition and I’d like to win it.”

The 100-lap race is a strategic event and Yeley has some thoughts about how to be competitive at the end. “One of the drawbacks to leading so long like I did in 2003 is that the groove you develop often goes away. Dave (Darland) was working better on the cushion than I was and by the time I switched lanes it was too late. Survival is the key word in a 100-lapper and you need to make sure you have a good handling car at the end. Horsepower is critical but the track can change a lot during the race.”

One of only four USAC Triple Crown Champions (Dave Darland, Tony Stewart and Pancho Carter are the others), Yeley led the first 75 laps of the 2003 “Hut Hundred” after starting on the front row but lost to his teammate, Darland. J.J. had won the “Tony Hulman Classic” Sprint race at Terre Haute four months earlier. J.J.’s last “Hut Hundred” appearance in 2004 resulted in a DNF, 28th place.

J.J. also led 28 laps of the 2002 “Hut Hundred” but finished third behind Mike Hess and Dave Darland. The previous year he was second to Tracy Hines in the “Hut,” which was held that year at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. His first three “Hut Hundred” starts in 1997-98-99 netted no better than a 29th-place finish.

Yeley is one of only a baker’s dozen USAC drivers with 60 career National victories. His Eldora win was his first in nearly a year, having won the Silver Crown race at Kansas City, Kans. in September of 2007.

Nothing would be better than an early birthday present for J.J., who will celebrate his 32nd the day after the Terre Haute race!

Not only will J. J. be at Lawrenceburg Saturday night, but his birthday is the next day. Also, he has announced that he will be at Granite City for their big midget show next Wednesday through Saturday.

Im not for sure if I respect the decision of filing an entry for the Hut 100, doing a complete Press Release saying "how excited he is to run the Hut Hundred" and how it "would fill out his resume by winning such a prestigious event" and then back out.

But good luck where ever he goes.

Devin I like you and all, but youre a bit too young to be telling me what I can and cant respect. I respect the hell out of JJ as a driver, but when you file an entry, do a complete press release with interviews, and then do an about face. Its not right.

But as I said before, its his decision, and his alone to make. I just dont have to respect it.

I am not going any further with this, honestly I hope if he does go to the Burg, he wins.

Im not arguing with a minor. Ill see you at where ever event we are both at. Ill just agree to disagree and drop it.

If you are going to the burg, be safe and be careful

And on a closing note, dont be so snooty, it comes off bad. Trust me ive done it before.

Hey Chris, I realize I have no dog in this fight...... and I am not cutting you down.... but I did see the point of Devin's post. He is tired of folks cutting down the Yeleys.

Sometimes decisions are made.... and there will be both people/fans on both sides of it. Maybe the midget is not ready..... or they had problems with it. Maybe during maintenance something came up and instead of hurriedly fixing it they decided to go to the Burg. Maybe someone can clarify why he switched venues before folks jump on them for doing so.

There is always another side to the story.

Do you suppose, after the good run he had at Eldora on their high banks,, that funny little crinkly green paper stuff called $10,000.00 to win may have anything to do with it? Good Luck wherever you go JJ. :thumb

Thank you Devin, took the words right out of my mouth. I will respect any decision the Yeley’s make as they have earned it. I would now like to tell anyone who would like to see JJ or any driver get involved in a wreck or get a “boot” that I have witnessed three races at an identical track to Lawrenceburg called Paducah (ky). Not to bring back any bad memories as I get ill to my stomach every time I think about it, but I saw three serious injuries. My point being that I hope some of the comments made on this board are a deal where you were just not thinking about what you were saying at the time as I have those moments too. I know I will have my fingers crossed that we have a fun and competitive race at the burg but also one that is wreck free and everyone returns home safely.

Re: Yeley to L-burg!

Here is my thoughts on this subject.

From what I can tell, Yeley said he would race at THAT and did a interview. Now it seems that he is backing out. That seems pretty bad for people coming to TH to see Yeley race here in TH. Then to find out he isn't.

BTW, here is the press release for Yeley coming to TH.

(Terre Haute) A pair of former race winners are set to return to Terre Haute's Action Track this Saturday for the 57th scheduled running of the Hut 100.

Jason Leffler, who won the classic 100 lap USAC National Midget Series event in 1997, takes a break from his current NASCAR schedule to be in Terre Haute for Saturday's race, while 2004 Hut 100 winner Bobby East returns looking for his second victory. Both Leffler and East announced their intentions to attempt to qualify for the "Hut" just days after J.J.Yeley confirmed that he would compete.

Yeley, who won at Eldora in the 4-Crown Midget feature driving the #4 Klatt Enterprises, Ford Racing Beast, will relinquish that ride to East this Saturday. Yeley will strap into the #1 Husqvarna sponsored Triple Crown racing entry for the Terre Haute race.

"Obviously I feel like I can win, or I wouldn't be running," said the former USAC Triple Crown Champion. "We've got a brand new version of the Mopar engine for Terre Haute, and I'm looking forward to adding that race to my resume. It's a race with a lot of tradition, and I'd like to win it."

Bobby East will be in the hunt with Ford power on Saturday, and following last Friday's private test at the half-mile Action Track he appears to be ready to run up front.

"We learned a lot today," said East. "The Ford/Esslinger power is going to be tough to beat, and I just can't wait to race here again. This is a big race for us at an historic track. It was huge to win it once (2004) and I'd like to be one of the few that can say I've won it twice."

Saturday's race could feature an epic Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar duel.

The Chevy powered Tony Stewart Racing team comes to Terre Haute this weekend looking to maintain it's current USAC National Midget Series championship lead. TSR driver Tracy Hines currently leads the driver points, with his teammate, Tony Hulman Classic winner Levi Jones fourth in the standings. East, with Ford power, is currently 6th, and Yeley, who's running a partial schedule, looks to be the spoiler and rive into Victory Lane with Mopar.

Fans will enjoy a "double dose of dirt" Saturday at the famed Action Track. The Monster Modified Classic, delayed from it's original September 12th date due to rain, will also be a part of Saturday's huge day of racing.

Top modified teams from across Indiana and the Midwest will be a part of the action, and will take to the track first. Modified hot laps are expected to get underway at approximately 2:30, with heat races set to follow at approximately 4:30. USAC midgets will take to the track for hot laps at 5:45, with qualifying set to get underway at 6:30. The 30 lap Monster Modified A-Main is scheduled to take the green flag at 8pm, with the Hut 100 scheduled for a 9pm start.

The Action Track ticket office and gates will open Saturday at 2pm. Adult tickets start at $10 for the infield, with an infield Family Pass (2 adults/4 children) available for just $25. General admission bleacher and grandstand tickets are also available. Reserved grandstand tickets can be purchased in advance by calling (812) 239-4078.

Re: Yeley to L-burg!

I sent Fishnman to Haubstat last week to see what drivers were coming, I believe when he talked to JJ Yeley he said he wants to race at Lawrenceburg, but might be going to THAT if the car was ready in time, i think they needed a motor. So if indeed he is coming to Lawrenceburg i assume the midget was'nt ready.
Chris, things come up, and drivers change thier plans, Look at Cottle, he was planning on racing at Lawrenceburg but a better oppourtunity came up and he grabbed it, No hard feeling here for Shane. It is America home of the free, at least for now.
Good luck to everyone this weekend, whether your going to Lawrenceburg or THAT. Both places are going to host some major talent and some great racing action.

Hope JJ makes it to the burg. It is not like JJ backed out saturday morning and people who were going to THAT didn't know and showed up only to see JJ. If he decides to run THAT after we think he will be at the Burg, I bet we won't piss and moan because it is going to be one hell of a field of cars at the burg with or without JJ.

Just my opinion,

Shane
