David Letterman
With Dave being part owner in an Indy Car team and having been born and raised in Indiana, would you consider him to be the "favorite son" of the state's open wheel fan base? :)

Re: David Letterman
Not until he straps himself into a sprint car and takes a lap around Eldora and Winchester.

Re: David Letterman
He would make a great sponser for a young and upcoming driver.

I consider the man a piece of crap. Hes not being funny. he believes his rehtoric.
ALso ask Ball state what they think of him. One of their richest allumni who gives nothing but mentions them all the time as his proud alla matter |
Re: David Letterman
Letterman's 97 Emmy nominations and 16 statuettes, as well as his more than 30-year record of giving back to Ball State that began with an initial gift of $10 in 1976, just seven years after he graduated.
Since 1985, Letterman has provided annual scholarships of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,333 for three telecommunications students in the College of Communication, Information, and Media (CCIM) who submit a short film, screenplay, series of storyboards or other creative project in order to qualify for one of the much sought-after awards. He also was a financial force behind the establishment of WCRD - for "Cardinal Radio Dave" to the campus radio station's all-student staff, now housed in handsome new studios on the second floor of the Letterman building. "He has a very special place in his heart for Ball State University, and he cares deeply about our students. His interest in the building centers on how it benefits our students," Gora said. "And [they] care deeply about Dave." |
Re: David Letterman
After the goofy act... David Letterman is one of the smartest men you'll ever meet.
For me personally, it is always funny to see how others complain about rich people not "GIVING BACK".... When someone does something bad....everybody knows about it. When someone does something good... No one knows about it. Heck, it is kinda like this board sometimes... when somebody has something to complain about they post it... and when they don't... They just read. |
Re: David Letterman
It sounds like people need to get there facts straight about Dave!! He gives a lot back to Ball State as iam from Muncie,In. He has give more than most people ever hear of. Another man does the samething and you know him as Tony Stewart! He has given a lot to people and foundations that we never hear about in the public!:checkered:

Re: David Letterman
I have alot of respect for the him. I believe that he is a guy who left Indiana, but Indiana never left him.
Favorite sons are subjective. Although when giving directions it would be funny to tell people to get on the "Dave" and head south. |
Re: David Letterman
May be off the beaten path but my vote goes to a very important person from Dana, Indiana...Ernie Pyle. His efforts during WWII are two numerous to mention.
The country was still reeling from the sudden passing of FDR just six days prior when they heard the news of a snipers bullet hitting Ernie Pyle in the temple. Not just the everage reporter Ernie didn't report on the movements of armies or the activities of generals, he wrote from the perspective of the common soldier and their experiences during the war. |

Before the do not bash card is played... You call somebody a piece of crap, you deserve whatever you get. You might want to look in the mirror if you are going to call people that. Like him or not, that’s uncalled for. |
Re: David Letterman
Well stated. I personally enjoy Letterman's humor and its nice to see that most of the people in his home state recognize him for his contributions to Ball State. He recently mentioned the Ball State football team's winning record on his late night show.

I’m pretty sure your “source” is full of crap though. Kind of like when you put the “expert” hat on which is far too often IMO. That I do know. It's OK to back away from the keyboard once in while. |

I've never claimed to be a expert at anything and I do apologize for posting that here. Your right, Im wrong. I should have left that as well as many other things alone. Sorry Kevin if I made you mad. Im sure your not the only one but the poster in front of me in this thread basically said the same thing without the insult. |

I love you man!!!!! :thumb He may be a great guy but, his ******** are anathema to me. |
Re: David Letterman
I love the guy's humor. Always have, always will.
But, he still needs to strap his butt into a sprint car and take a few laps at Eldora and Winchester. A final thought, even if he had not made all of the financial contributions, what is the value of having your university mentioned -- repeatedly -- on a nationally broadcast television program. Very few people visiting this board could pay the advertising bill for the time he has donated just mentionin Ball State's name. Jim Morrison |

Anyway, David Letterman's sense of humor won me over years ago when, as a local Indianapolis weatherman, he congratulated a tropical storm for becoming a hurricane. As someone else stated earlier, regarding his style of humor, you either get it or you don't. David. |
Re: David Letterman
That's it ! He was funny years ago, (About 30).
Not funny now, just full of himself like many other celebrities. |
Re: David Letterman
I'm not a native Hoosier and there are times I like and times I don't care for Letterman.
HOWEVER, I'd like to think that Anton Hulman Jr or Carl Fisher would be the state's hero when it comes to open wheel racing. Without them it's entirely possible the sport would not exist. |
Re: David Letterman
I love Letterman and think he is great and if he wants to sponsor a race team tell him to look me up, that would be interesting

Fisher was born there, and Shaw crashed a bicycle there. Jim Morrison |

Jim Morrison[/QUOTE] And 2 of Decatur County's finest pulled me over for speeding. I was set up. Again. :Steer Dave's devotion to Hoosier racing is well documented. They don't call it Rahal-Letterman Racing for nothing. |
