Eldora track conditions
I was really excited about this weekend of racing at the big "e" but once again I'm disappointed in the track prep. The outlaws were a full second slower in hot laps, and now there qualifying huggy pole style. Sad.

Bloomingtons quick time tonight is Kody Kinser at a 9.4!! They're flying!

Re: Eldora track conditions
I said it before. Everything's improved but the track. Half the NW qualified over 18 seconds. The Street stocks there used to run 19s in the 80s-90s
That being said, the rules seem not to have effected Car Count much as they're only down 4 and three of those teams quit before the season started.. Hope they have a good safe race. |

Also five fasteners instead of three per wheel cover. Im not knocking the rule Im glad most drivers are using them. |
Re: Eldora track conditions
If you're a true fan that follows the sport, you should not be surprised.
The World of Outlaws have preference in terms of track prep and anyone whose familiar with the series in recent years knew it wasn't going to be Craig Dolansky setting track records fast. It hasn't been that way in quite some time. USAC was just going to get the leftovers. The place is a dust bowl, its been said time & time again. If you chose to spend the money and go an watch more times than not you know what you're gonna get so quite frankly, I don't wanna hear it. You can be up Eldora's rear end the same way I hear folks up north talk up Plymouth, but the fact remains the same. The tracks are going to be dry, slick and throw a lot of dust. If that's what you like, all the power to ya, I personally don't care for either track. Eldora use to be MONEY. The World 100 (yes, its a late model race and I'm a hillbilly) use to be my favorite race on the schedule. 100 laps later they're still flippin clay in the stands. Unfortunately, Earl is long gone and him dumping calcium on the track or whatever other secrets he had have died with him. The Eldora of 20 years ago is not the Eldora we have today. Today we have a track that banks on a NASCAR race. It is what it is. |
Everyone on Twitter is saying what a great A main it was. Can't we wait until the end of the night to bash the track conditions?
|
Lighten up nate. Been a fan for 40+ years, just be nice to see a cushion every once in a while.
|
The USAC A main was absolutely fantastic. If you didn't enjoy it then I don't know what to tell you.
|
You could throw a blanket over the top 6 all race long in the usac portion. Sure it was dusty but it's a dirt track. I didn't stay for woo,not a big fan of them.

Re: Eldora track conditions
The USAC race was great. The winged cars continue to run lower and would continue to do so if it was wet. Think about it. If everyone is full throttle all the way around the track, the shortest way will be the fastest. I thought the conditions were pretty good for an Ohio track, but I was actually there. Nice run by Hewitt, reminded me of his run last spring at the Burg. Got no dust on me all night.

Re: Eldora track conditions
I too miss the old Eldora cushion, but the fact is the USAC feature was fantastic. The Outlaw races were pretty good too. Hard to complain when this is the only track that gives us fans both in the same night. $33.00 for a pit pass :9:

Re: Eldora track conditions
I wasn't bashing the track, just saying it's not the breathtaking speed plant it used to be (At least that's the way I see it) And that's the main reason I fell in love with going there.
As for dust? I always remember the place being dusty as hell, The difference was Earl would water the top with the fire truck before the features and the dust wasn't so bad the first few laps that you could still see turn four and half the front straight from the other end. Now you gotta wait till it blows off. Last years midget feature at the four crown I couldn't see turn four at all till about lap five or six. Glad it was good and safe race. Got word that Sheldon says Jac is ok from his WoO wreck. Can anyone tell me what happened to Chad? Im guessing brakes. But IDK. |
Track couldn't be to bad if Stockon starts 21st and runs 4th. Same for Hewitt who started 9th and went up to 2nd with a chance to win it. Others advanced as well. Andretti, Courtney etc. That stretch from around lap 15 to 25 was fantastic stuff up front. Passing on the huggy pole, in the middle and inches off the wall. I got way more than my money's worth. Was it dusty...for sure. Is it always dusty...for sure. Great night glad I went.

That said, sounds like the USAC show was a great race even if it was dusty. |
Re: Eldora track conditions
Sat next to some Outlaw fans who don't know any non wing stuff and these guys were absolutely amazed at that a-main.

Re: Eldora track conditions
breathtaking speed plant huh ? That's whats wrong with most of todays racing its all about speed, less and less about driving ability. If everyone is going around full throttle with no lifting the racing sucks, period.
as an example, woo. |

did you enjoy the pizza burger? |
I first started the post wishing there was a little moisture in the track, but the racing just got better through out the night, the outlaw feature was decent, glad to see Logan win. The usac feature was fantastic!! If the feature was five more laps anyone in the top 6 or 7 spots could have won it. Great race!!! Can't wait for night #2

As a matter of fact I did!

Re: Eldora track conditions
Despite what all the naysayers came to warn us about, I'm rested up from 2 days of travel hell, have changed plans and am headed to the Big E. I have a winged fan friend from Eastern Ohio that just texted me. He didn't say anything about the WoO race, he was just raving about how great the non-winged race was last night.
