May 13th - Lawrenceburg Speedway - $2,500 to win

MAY 13TH – LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY – $2,500 TO WIN / $250 TO START

A large bout of rainy weather has hit the tristate area forcing Lawrenceburg Speedway to postpone racing for three consecutive weekends. But for the first time in a month, the forecast for Saturday looks promising with partly sunny skies, pleasant and warmer temperatures with a high near 70 degrees.

Hopefully, the third time’s a charm for the King of the Midwest Sprints race and a driver will go home with a cool $2,500 in his pocket Saturday night and a brand new right rear courtesy of Hoosier Tire.

The feature purse is increased at every position with second and third place earning $1,250 and $1,000 respectively. The total payout is over $11,200 and it pays a minimum of $250 to start the 25-lap feature.

Sean Buckley of Jackslash Media, Inc. will be on hand Saturday for Round 3 of the Indiana Sprint Car Series on MAVTV presented by Fatheadz Eyewear. Buckley will be recording the nights racing for a future airing on MAVTV’s Dirty30 television show.

Thomas Meseraull leads Jarett Andretti, Brent Beauchamp, Shane Cottle and Max McGhee in the Indiana Sprint Car Series standings after a win earlier this season at the Lincoln Park Speedway and a tenth place finish Sunday night at Kokomo. Tyler Thomas, the defending ISCS Champion, won the King of Kokomo race and is currently seventh in points.

Jon Stanbrough is the defending King of the Midwest Sprints. Stanbrough has enjoyed success on the 3/8th mile track at “The Burg” in some of it’s biggest races. He won the first nonwing sprint race ever held on the new track on June 14, 2008. He pocketed ten grand the following year with a win in the Lawrenceburg Fall Nationals, won a King of Indiana Sprint Series (KISS) race in 2014 and the prestigious Dick Gaines Memorial in 2015.

Stanbrough’s five career wins leaves him tied with Robert Ballou and Kevin Thomas, Jr. for ninth place in all-time wins on the 3/8ths mile track. Brady Short is the all-time win leader visiting Budweiser Winner’s Circle eleven times, followed by Justin Grant (9) and CJ Leary (8).

There will also be $100 tow money to all cars that do not start the feature and a $63 Grasshopper Award to the feature hard charger from the Lawrenceburg Safety Crew in memory of the late Bryan Clauson.

In addition to the increased purse Saturday night there will be a slight change to the standard Lawrenceburg Speedway race format.

A blind pill draw will continue to be used to set the heat race groups, but lap times gathered during practice will set the heat race lineups. Cars will be lined straight up by time with the fastest four cars in each heat race inverted.

Heat race finish will still determine the lineups for the B Main(s) and feature with the top two finishers in each heat race (if five or more heats only the winners) redrawing for their starting position at the front of the feature field.

Stanbrough took the lead at the drop of the green and was running away with it. Once Dickie took 2nd he ran Stanbrough down using a low line through turn 4 to his advantage and then took the lead around the halfway point. The next few laps Stanbrough tried to mount a challenge but Dickie was able to answer it.

Behind the lead two was a free-for-all between Andretti, Westerfeld, Hughes, Abel & Dimatta and eventually Jordan Kinser who would finish 6th behind Westerfeld and take the Grasshopper (hard charger) Award of $63.

Good, fast track and good racing by all. Race stayed green from start to finish.

Congrats on Dickie Gaines and Jason Soudrette Racing, the little team that could, and did.

All Hail King Dickie! Long live THE KING of the Midwest.

Able led the first couple laps and Stanbrough got buy and jumped out to well over a straight lead, Dickie moved up to second about lap five. Both were running the cushion but then Dickie did High in one and two, Low in three and four and ran him down about five laps later Im not sure Jon even knew he was down there but as Greg said, About halfway with Dickie running lows and Jon high in four, Jon missed the cushion and got way sideways up top. At that moment Dickie Pounced and REIGN'd in sitting King Stanbrough to take the lead on the front straight Jon hung tough for about the next five laps then Dickie Checked out.

Gotta give props to both Dickie an John Sudrette for having the JSR 44 in prime form. Nothing on that car is high buck and they struggle to put a new RR on it from week to week (And often don't)

Stranbrough held strong to take second. Andretti eventually worked hiself up from sixth to finish third but it wasn't without a strong challenge from fourth starting JJ Hughes who had fallen back as far as seventh about five laps in to run getting up side by side with Andretti for third several times. Think Jj has a tiger by the tail with new to him car Amelia. She ran great all night.

Mods saw Kyle Herbert hold off Joey Kramer for the win.

Very enjoyable night at the Burg,
Next week. BOSS non wing sprints! WOOHOO!
