The Truth about the Winchester Ticket Experience

I am the race track official who "BigBudMan" talked about. It is very simple, he tried to use a rain check from the Thursday Night USAC race (a race that was NOT rained out). His ticket was a green adult ticket, # 860338. I know because I have still have it, he did not want it after I explained his ticket was not a valid rain check. Hundreds of people exchanged their yellow adult tickets for tickets for future events or even got refunds by mailing them in. (Those yellow tickets are number 767014-767807).

Winchester Speedway has no interest in taking anyone's money, and have always, and will always, refund money from shows like that one that are completely rained out. Any race track would not be in business very long if they gave refunds or exchanges for rain checks FROM EVENTS THAT WERE RUN AND NEVER RAINED OUT.

I could tell that "BigBudMan" was disappointed, but what are you supposed to do? The hundreds of other people that brought the right rain check back or sent in for refunds can easily testify to the fact that they were treated more than fairly. In fact, numerous times we exchanged them for other "lesser value" events and handed money back through the window (and I've been to other tracks where that doesn't happen, you just get the lesser value ticket).

Anyone holding one of these rainchecks can still use them or get a refund by contacting the speedway.

That's the tough thing about this side of the business...you try to be fair and you get thrown under the bus. If I hadn't come on here, you would have never heard the whole truth about his experience. Isn't it amazing when you hear the other half of the story.

I'm not interested in casting any stones at "BigBudMan"...I'm just here to protect the integrity of Winchester Speedway. I believe he made an honest mistake, by bringing the wrong ticket stub. I believe he was embarrassed when I showed him the paper work from the rain-out and the completed Thursday USAC show (which is what his ticket stub was ultimately from). Its just a shame that he was going to make Winchester's intrigity pay for his mistake, by coming on here and unjustly bashing us.

Keeping race tracks open by doing things the RIGHT way is already hard enough, getting ripped for something thats not right makes it even harder.

I encourage you all to support your local race tracks, especially the one's that try to treat you fairly.

I also encourage anyone to contact me directly through winchesterspeedway.com or craracing.net about this or any other issue.

Thanks,

R. J. Scott,
CRA/Winchester Speedway

Two sides to every story, aren't there?

And the fact that the Winchester official posted on here, giving us his name, his version of the story, and how to deal with the situation in the future, says a lot about him and his representation of the track.

Thanks for posting your point of view and offering solutions........

Two sides to every story....wow come to work with me for a few days!

Good job explaining the problem, and you will not see any of my money in the near future....I dont do pavement is all LOL

Seadog 9/29/08 3:58 PM

Re: The Truth about the Winchester Ticket Experience

Well, I do like pavement. There's not enough USAC on pavement to suit me. I want more.

I have always been treated fairly at Winchester Speedway. I have been going since 1955. Thanks for the hospitality.:thumb

Good job Winchester and here's hoping for some midgets there in '09 in addition to Sprints.

Thanks R.J. for coming on the board and explaining exactly what happened. I have been going to CRA events for a long time and both R.J. & Glenn Luckett are quality people. When I heard that they took over the promotion of the Winchester Speedway I was glad that they were being given a chance to help revive the grand ole dame. They both work very hard to try to bring the paying customer a quality show. Without them stepping forward, Winchester Speedway might still be closed or worse. I hope to see more of USAC and other types of open wheel racing at Winchester. Just a suggestion R.J., how about a ISMA or MSA show?

Thanks for doing a great job explaining that, the same story I got that day. I left the ticket with you to remind you how you handled the situation. I was not confused ,I have had the same ticket all year in the same spot. It is a shame thats how you address a customer complaint, that was the point all along. So again great job resolving the problem. Sincerly Brent Furay aka BIGEBUDMAN

It seems to me there are others that where told they could be used at any other race this year. This was posted in the other thread.

I known Budman and I will take his word on what he says about the situation. In my opinion it was not handeled correctly. And I won't go to a asphalt race anywhere so they arn't losing anything on me anyway. JMO

R.J.,

I only get to see the stars of the ISMA series a couple of times per year. I try to attend Winchester events as often as possible and I would love to see a supermodified show at the speedway. Their show at Toledo with the AVSS series is always a hit and unfortunately this year it was rained out and not rescheduled. I hope you can get this accomplished. Keep up the good work.:thumb

Clydesdale 9/29/08 9:51 PM

Re: The Truth about the Winchester Ticket Experience

It would be really cool to see the supermodifieds at Winchester, especially ISMA! make it an all open-wheel show with sprint cars and or midgets. That would be one of the can't miss events of next season.

Re: The Truth about the Winchester Ticket Experience

Supermods at Winchester!!!! Oh yeah. I'm having to breath into a paper bag just thinking about it.

Please, make it a Saturday show if at all possible.

Any open wheel show (including the USA Mods) at Winchester is a special thing, but the Supers take it to another level.

BTW, I also think the CRA Super Series is a first rate show. How about the Main Event Outlaw late models. They're pretty damn cool too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I remember several years ago the Holdemans brought in a Super.

The idea was to set a ultimate track record, but as I recall the Super did not run as fast as the USAC Sprints.

I believe that Bently Warren was the driver.

Thanks for posting RJ Scott

It's a very plausible explanation.

The Holdemans were great promoters there, I use to call and they would hold me reserved seats under the press box for every sprint race from year to year. There were times they would hold 15 seats for me with no deposit. I wish they were still there, they were a class act.

:thumb times 100 for supers at Winchester!! Not sure of the dates but I know I witnssed them there in the 80's. I can remember Gene Lee and Todd Gibson, Joe Gosek and Tom Marks (from Michgan in the Stickney car).

Teaming that up with the sprints and/or midegets (like Toldeo and Berlin) would definitely draw a crowd.

Please do whatever you can to make it happen:checkered:

Re: The Truth about the Winchester Ticket Experience

Seems to me there is some sort of miscommunication somewhere along the line. If somebody was trying to pull a “fast” one, why would they then get on the internet and bring it up? I would think they would try it and if it didn’t work they would move on. I don’t think they would bring it up to people’s attention on a message board. Others seemed to have had some issues as well so to me something happened. You’re telling me all those people were trying to get in with a June ticket? One or two people doing that (mistakenly or not) I could see, but sounds like there were several that had problems. There is more than one ticket window so is it possible that one of them gave out different tickets for any amount of time? Even a short while could cause an issue. Just throwing it out there. I exchanged mine in June so I didn’t have an issue. I just don’t see somebody getting on the internet after the fact to post about the issue if they were trying to cheat somebody….doesn’t make sense.

I remember very vaguely when I was real young, maybe 1990 or so, during a super modified race there was an incident between Gene Lee Gibson and I think Pat Abold on the backstraightaway. I seem to remember Gibson throwing a sucker punch into the car into the side of Abold's head.

Does anyone remember this or did I just dream that?

By the way, I would love to see the Supers back at Winchester. Pair them with either the sprints or the midgets and that would be one can't miss event on the calendar for next season. :thumb

I do remember that! We were headed out there and Blew the engine on my old dually on the NYS thruway and never made it. Unfortunatly it was costly for Gene Lee as things were happening for him at the same time. I know Pat and Gene lee and there both good guys. It was a bad deal all the way around.
Look forward to seeing another race there as well as Salem.....:nonwingfan::thumb
