USAC Sprints @ Plymouth Friday

Roll call...? Any IOW'ers planning on attending? Weather looks iffy for the rest of the weekend so Friday may be it. Decent weather forecast for Friday, just a tad cool. But anyways... looking forward to this show, good to see USAC venture up north within the hoosier state. If you haven't been to Plymouth in the past few years, the place has gone through a significant facelift and the drivers who have turned laps there over the past few years are looking forward to it. A snapshot of results from recent non-wing shows...

I'll be making my first trip up there, can you carry coolers in or anything? Plenty of parking and what not? Just any useful tips

No carry in coolers. Concession food is good. beer is a bit high. parking is about the same amount as kokomo. Grandstand are from the back strait at Daytona & some of the seats come from charlotte. any where you sit you can see the whole track. Get there early is possible. Like every track they have their good nights and bad nights.

Saw online where they charge to park close? No idea if that was only for a certain event or?

That's FAKE. No they don't. Maybe if you camp they might.

Headed down from Stevensville. All I hope is that the track is not a dust bowl like every other time I have been there since they dirted over.

flagboy55 4/19/17 10:36 PM

Amen Mr Stevensville! The track has been very inconsistent to put it politely. I will be there and hopefully Mike I can say hi. I've got my fingers crossed they will have a cushion to use instead of just dust on the top like the last race I saw there. I don't want to be too critical because it's obvious they are trying, but if the track, and the racing is good, I don't need Nascar grandstands, I'll sit on splinters

TCR57 4/19/17 11:44 PM

The WoO race last year was damn good. Track was not a "dust bowl"...

flagboy55 4/20/17 6:56 AM

I whole heartedly agree with your take on last year's WOO race. Track was good and the show was run very well. Hopefully we get the same track and efficiency Friday.

Sorry for the confusion, there was a parking fee but for a monster truck show that there was a "VIP" parking fee.

reeserx 4/21/17 12:51 PM

Heading towards Plymouth now, excited for my first trip to the playground of power!

axman775 4/21/17 5:23 PM

Feels like I'm ready to go ice fishing. On the positive side, I won't have to worry about my beer getting warm.

flagboy55 4/21/17 5:25 PM

At least the wind is at our back for the most part. Hopefully they got enough water in the track

wildman92 4/21/17 9:21 PM

Finish Grant, Courtney (from 18th!!) and Boespflug.

Sorry no updates. Too damn cold. Race over at 9:15!

TCR57 4/21/17 10:32 PM

I know. Done at 9:15. No action while we sober up. 😉

racer-x 4/21/17 10:45 PM

Last time I was at the track they were still welding the bleachers together. There is a huge platform between the bottom row and the track. I stood by the fence there all night and wasn't even that cold..
Great time and nice to be home before ten.

Rich Mersereau 4/21/17 11:04 PM

Great night at the track. Thanks to Plymouth and USAC for running in the cold.

Re: USAC Sprints @ Plymouth Friday

Cold and windy, Indeed but that didn't effect the hot action on the track as Sam McGhee and JG worked their magic once again to take home the trophy and the money at Plymouth Speedway tonight. Grant was able to jump out to a pretty comfortable lead working the top side making his own groove and stretching it out to half a lap lead within maybe a dozen laps.
Justin soon caught back-markers and put about 4 cars between him and second place running Chad Boespflug who worked the bottom side of the track. Several more laps and Chad, driving the 69 Hoffman car, was starting to reel in Grant just as he began to close in on about 5 more cars to lap all running for their own positions in the race. But Grant masterfully used his patience and steadily picked one car at a time off until he had worked thru the myriad of cars. By that time Tyler Courtney had moved up from his 18th starting position to catch and pass Boespflug for 2nd by the time Grant had taken the checkers.
It was certainly a technical track tonight pretty much from the get go but was fun to watch and it went green to checkers non stop. Kudos to the track for all their hard work and for hosting the race. Congratulations to Justin Grant and the McGhee family for picking up the Victory . Great Job :22:

Re: USAC Sprints @ Plymouth Friday

Track prep was better than any time I had been there. A little choppy in some of the corners but they are real wide so there are many other ways to get around the place. Can't complain one iota

And.... as flagboy said, thank God the wind was at our back.

How about that run by Tyler Courtney? 18th to second!

Great lighting system they have installed. Grandstands have been up graded. Not a bad seat anywhere. Deck out front works well. Big investment for the race fans👍🏻🏁

wildman92 4/22/17 12:52 PM

Except for the cold weather, I really enjoyed my first trip to Plymouth. Anytime a driver can go from 18th to 2nd, it's a good night. 👍🏻

What happened to Dave Darland? I noticed he was 16th in the feature after qualifying 14th. He has had a terrible run of luck this season.

openwheelfan1 4/22/17 4:19 PM

I'm sure the weather impacted the attendance, but how was the crowd for the race last night at Plymouth?

Dirtfan 4/22/17 5:23 PM

Re: USAC Sprints @ Plymouth Friday

Crowd was good I thought. A lot of changes since we were there in 2015 for the USAC Midgets. Kudos for the improvements, staff was very friendly, show moved quickly, out of the parking lot at 9:15. Definitely on our list of tracks to return to. A two day USAC Sprint & Midget show would be awesome. JMO

flagboy55 4/23/17 3:28 PM

Really enjoyed the show at Plymouth Friday. I had my worries about the track but they did a nice job with it as it was very racy with "texture" as I like to call it. Hats off to Plymouth and USAC for getting the show off efficiently. Looking around as the feature started the crowd looked good. Great to meet Stevensville Mike, and the Paterson's again and see Sam Davis again. Glad I went

Great from this side, too, flagboy. You would make a good detective for you figured out who I was. Well... maybe the cane gave it away (?). Meeting you and the guys was the highlight of the night (no offense to Tyler Courtney). :9:

Glad to finally meet Tom Paterson. As I told him, the last time I saw him race he was being run over by the push truck up at Spartan Speedway. Always a great forum rep and contributor he is. On hallowed ground and in the presence of people of high quality I was for that short period of time.
