One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

Imagine you have just started a brand new team and you need to hire a driver. You have your chance to hire any driver, who would it be and why?

Please keep all ties to a certain driver out of the equation like family ties, business ties, etc Also please choose a driver that is currently racing. (No disrespect intended)

Base your answer on driving skill, marketability, and attitude among other things.

I would hire Hunter Schurenberg as he is a driver with a ton of upside and his results speak for themselves. He still has a little learning to do it seems with patience at times but he will be very marketable and always seems to be walking around with a smile on his face.

I do not personally know Hunter but have intentions on talking to him at a track real soon.

I am sure this thread will get some opinions flowing!!

Who do you hire?

CHASE BRISCOE He is Young he has been brought up to respect the sport & Equipment being young and a new team both will take the time to gell together he won't get shook if you don't win right away and of course you hire his father as your crew chief and be come a team for many years :checkered:

SAMMY IMEL. The kid has some talent in a race car.:thumb

Josh clemons also Is a hell of a driver...If he just had the money he would be one of the best out there.Right now he is about Low budgeted as you can get and hes still running with the big dogs.Just think about how he would do if he had the money to improve his race car.

Matt Westfall. He just flat out knows how to drive a racecar!

Also Cole Whitt he is unbeatable at gas city! and the kid has some potential.

I have yet to see Chase race this year. I have seen his dad race though and know he was one hell of a driver (Still is!)

What the family did for Jerry Ruble tells what kind of people they are, definitely a class act.

With out a doubt, Mr. Pretty for Oakland City, Hud Cone. He is extremly versitile, Midgets sprints modifieds lm silver crown some pavement cars. He has good equipment right now but not top shelf stuff. He gets more out of his cars than anyone possibly could. Always has time for any fan that wants too see him and takes care of cars at any venue he's at. Shows extreme patience and prowess. If you have ever been around him in the pits 99% of prep is done when he unloads. Just watch him sometime you'll see what I mean. Yeah he's a little older than Hunter Bland Bacon Whitt etc but with that comes something irreplacable EXPIRENCE!!!!!:applaud:

Cone came across my mind also. Loved the interview with him and Kyle at Tri State Saturday.

One smooth driver... no doubt

Definately Sammy Imel. This young man has run both midgets and sprints, dirt and asphalt, and is a proven winner. With some financial backing or a shot at a good ride, this second generation driver would run with the best of them. He is doing it now as much as they can afford on a family budget. He's as easy on equipment that you can be and still run up front. Lot's of talent in this young gentleman. :thumb

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

Well I would think you would need a driver who is young and agressive, but not overly so. They would need to be maketable for the sponsers so he would have to be polite and a fairly good speaker. He would have to have natural talent . I just met the driver I would hire that would be Jeff Bland Jr. He has to be the most polite young man I have ever met , people who know him seem to talk real positive about him and the car controll this young man has is unbeliveable. So That is who I would hire.

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

I choose Jeff Bland. kid knows how to handle the car and is aggressive on the track. Never a fault with this kid. He is geniune off the track and poliete. I dont think he would ever disappoint (always a crowd favorite!!)

..2nd choice would be ...Hunter (this season speaks for itself. Kids good)

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

I'd take Robert Ballou and not care about marketabitly or being polite!I want a driver not someone to sell girl scout cookies door to door!

While all of you guys (and ladies) are polishing your young wippersnappers for years to come I would be counting the victories with my driver....DD! :respect:

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

Hard to pick one but here goes it.

Chad Boespflug. Takes his a couple trips to each track but after that hes a contender.

Chuck, seeing Bland Jr. as one of the hottest of hots this year and seems to find speed you wouldn't think exist.

Dirtfan 9/28/08 8:09 PM

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

Either or Jeff Bland Jr, Brady Short and or Blake Fitzpatrick, he has came a long ways this year IMO. Guess I would have multiple teams, not didn't hit powerball last night:headbang

None saying Levi,Daron Clayton or Jon Stanbrough

which is surprising to me....

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

By far one of the best driver right now would be Tate Martz. He is a USAC Focus Champion, would of won the UMRA champanship this year if not for a racing incedent. He drives ever lap like he's qualifing. So if u want a drive that will go to the front he's the man.

Too bad he learned the "stay in your car under a red flag" rule last night at Haubstadt the hard way!! Felt bad for him, unless his car was not driveable and he meant to get out of his car...but from the way he reacted to the official, it didn't appear that was the case.

i will agree with levi jones and JJ Yeley but jon has yet to impress me in any other car other than the foxco 53, he just isnt the same as he is when brad and steve fox are wrenching.

Re: One Driver, New Team, Who you got?

Cole Whitt. In an era of exclusive rim-riders, dude runs the bottom better than anybody since KT. Sorry Cottle fans, I know Shane is good on the bottom too.

For me it would be a choice between Jeff Bland Jr. and Hunter Schuerenberg. I would prolly pick both if at all possible. But if I had to pick one it would be Bland.

I'd just give the money to brad and steve to see the foxco car all year long. Best answer to the question I could come up with.

He won 19 races for Paul Hazen in 2003 and then 15 the next year, for a combination of owners, including Roger Tapy. If that isn't impressive, I don't know what is.

I'm assuming our goal is to go after the national title. If that's the case, I would pick one of the following:

1) Levi Jones
2) Jerry Coons, Jr.
3) Dave Darland
4) Cole Whitt

The first three could have competed in any era. They take care of equipment and excel in consistent quality finishes. The fourth looks like a sure bet to become one of those type of drivers.

Since it's a brand new complete team, I would have to go with Dave Darland. He's a great racer, takes care of the equipment and very personable.
