Stadium seats

It is my personal opinion that certain size stadium seats should not be allowed at most race tracks.. It is very inconsiderate of the people sitting behind you. If there would have been some kind of an emergency we would not have been able to get out safely because it was taking up all most all of the walkway.

ryan84 9/18/16 1:30 AM

I agree, I hate them. They should be banned from race tracks IMO

Re: Stadium seats

I was at arace this year where an old guy had one and no one could set behind him. Every person who walked down the row behind him bumped him, and he would give them a dirty look, even though he was blocking their way.

Scooter 9/18/16 7:55 AM

I don't feel bad about bumping into these people and I don't look for a facial expression as i Bulldog through the obstacle they put down!! Pure Ignorance.

berks co 9/18/16 8:54 AM

The worst is when they than put there cooler on the seats in front of them, take up,jam up three rows. When I bumped into the guy he looked at me started to say something I quickly said I'm glad all three of you have coolers and chairs and take up three rows.

Racin' girl 9/18/16 11:33 AM

For some, it's a matter of back and neck issues; the support of having something behind your back makes a big difference. I will also say, my husband and I try to sit in non congested areas with ours, and if the bleachers are tight, or it's a big show I know we won't be using the seats, but I know going into that situation the price I pay will be the next day in bed with a migraine, but that is all on me.
There are some of us that use stadium seats that are not inconsiderate, and people like the ones you describe above irritate me too (happened a couple weeks ago at a reserved seat race in Illinois), just wanted to speak up for those of us that use them for a reason, but understand that there is a time and place for them.

Re: Stadium seats

I understand your plight with back and or neck problems as I have back and leg problems. I think they should be banned outright. I see people perfectly capable of NOT needing one of these things, using them. (I know they do not need them as I know them) It incenses me to no end. I would NEVER use one

Rpracing1 9/18/16 2:25 PM

No issues here with stadium seats. What nuts me up though is the ones who drag in these big pleasure boat seats that are about 6" thick. Then you have the characters that haul in webbed lawn chairs and they somehow manage to get them to fit in a bleacher. SMH....

I have a lot bigger worries than stadium seats at a race track.....

I usually use one, don't want to be a nuisance tho... whats your definition of "too big"?

Re: Stadium seats

Three weeks ago I had an epidural for my deteriorating back. Didn't help much so they say surgery is on the horizon. The only way I can tolerate sitting in the stands is with a back on the seat. I've always tried to be considerate of others, but if they are banned then my days of attending races is over. I'm not wanting sympathy, just stating reality.

Ch138 9/18/16 5:21 PM

I've shown up at the track to mark my seats early to only come back and the spot in front of me has them so I had no room and they didn't care at all. So now I just mark off 2 rows so I know I have room BUT I always give the seats in front of me away when I see they don't have those chairs I tell them spots open .

Eatin Dirt 9/18/16 5:59 PM

On a different note if we are looking for issues, how about you are a nonsmoker and people right in front of you chain smoke all night. That's enjoyable.

motorhead748 9/18/16 7:58 PM

I believe Attica bans the use of stadium seats on their bigger shows.

ThePurple73 9/18/16 9:35 PM

Re: Stadium seats

Most race track operators would probably love it if this was an issue, which would mean huge crowds.

99.99997% of the races I go to this is nowhere close to an issue. Coolers are just as much in the way as stadium seats probably more.

Some tracks we go to with the "pre-race" seating, people stack coolers and stadium seats and blankets at the end of the rows and you have to do acrobatics to get in the rows.

What annoys me is someone going in and out of the row 10 times a night, carrying 6 beers, and spilling beer all over.

I saw someone this year on a top row with one of those long web-made chaise lounge chairs. I hadn't seen one since about 1968. It was good for a laugh.

I'm sure everyone on here used to see someone or a couple guys trying to haul a large Styrofoam cooler filled with ice and beer up the steps in the stands at Indy, only to have the thing fall apart half way up.

I don't know how they do it but some of those Vapor things people smoke, put out a plume of smoke like a stack of old tires burning. I haven't figured that one out yet.

captrat 9/18/16 10:40 PM

Re: Stadium seats

It seems to me the real issue is the size of the seat and selfishness of those who bring in seats which grossly oversized. there are seats that are no wider than the bench itself and have a back which is perpendicular to the back edge of their seat. these are probably acceptable.

People just do not seem to realize they are members of a group and need to respect those around them. As an example at Smackdown this year I witnessed a couple come into the reserved seats put their oversized chair seats down and basically take all the leg room behind them. to their credit they did move when it was pointed out they did not have a reserved seat ticket!

gannyx4 9/19/16 12:04 AM

I don't have a problem with the smaller ones as you pointed out it is the over sized ones that irritate me and a lot of other people those are the ones that need to be banned. Like coolers there should be a size limit.

Re: Stadium seats

If I'm going to a race and I know that there's going to be a good crowd, I won't bring it. If a lighter crowd, and I come a bit later where there are plenty of open seats with no one sitting in row behind me, I bring it and use it.

Talk about annoying, I had a guy in my lap at the chili bowl because of his stadium seat so I know what you guys are talking about. They should definitely be banned there

In PA you are not allowed to smoke in the stands.

Wrote a short piece about it on the blog and polled some fans on Twitter. You're not alone.

Also true in Illinois, at least at state owned facilities.

X2. I just play it off as i saved those seats for friends and they didn't show up....

This could be fixed if certain said tracks would add some seating for the big shows...

This country has turned in to a hoard of crybabies. :13:

The social engineers have done a number on us. :19:

What's the next complaint? Let me guess, dust at a dirt track? :10:

These people should try to sit on the aisle...but they r drunk and don't care!! Lol

i always save seats on the aisle because I leave between heats to check on the dog...my biggest issue is people making comments about me not sitting in the seat 100% of the night...mind your own business people...I had a gentlemen sit in my seats at terre haute during time trials...I show up halfway through time trials and he says "you weren't here". I said...I am now...of all places...terre haute has a million seats!!! Lol

What's wrong with expecting people to act decent? This world has turned into a bunch of people who think the are entitled to act like jerks...like smoking in the stands...I smoke...but not in the stands...out of respect to my neighbors...

OK, specific question: Do they have seat backs at Eldora? If not, is it too tight to use stadium seats? Would that bother other fans?

No need to politicize it. I don't see any "social engineers" posting here, just sprint car fans expressing their opinions

Seats and cushions are allowed at Eldora. No wider than 18 inches and can not have chair arms. I like their policy.
