$3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway
The 13th Annual “Dick Gaines Memorial,” featuring the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint cars, will be held on September 3rd at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Saturday night’s race honors the memory of one of Indiana’s greatest sprint car heroes, who was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1992. Since its inception a dozen years ago the “Dick Gaines Memorial” has included some of the best drivers in Indiana dirt track racing. In 2004, then rookie Bryan Clauson captured his first win at “The Burg” after battling wheel-to-wheel for 30-laps with Dick’s son Dickie. Amazingly, in twelve runnings of the “Dick Gaines Memorial”, there has never been a repeat winner. In fact, only Hunter Schuerenberg has been able to score a win (2008) and a runner-up finish (2011). Jerry Coons, Jr., Dave Darland, Justin Grant and Joss Moffatt are the only other drivers with a pair of podium finishes under their belts. DICK GAINES MEMORIAL WINNERSThe 2016 running of the “Dick Gaines Memorial” will once again pay $3,000 to win and $300 to start the 25-lap feature. As was the case last year, this event is part of the Jackslash.com “Summer Series” presented by Weld Racing and will be taped for future airing on MAV-TV as part of the Dirty 30 series. FEATURE PAYOUTAfter the August 20th rain out there are only two Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint car races left in the 2016 race season. Jarett Andretti is the current point leader, 140-points ahead of defending champion Joss Moffatt. 225 points are available each race (50 show, 25 heat win, 150 feature win) and a strong showing by Andretti will increase his odds to capture his first track championship. Andretti, the 2013 Lawrenceburg Speedway Rookie of the Year, has a pair of feature wins, six top-5, and eight top-10 finishes. Moffatt has been able to find victory lane only once this year but has six top-6 finishes in ten starts. Moffatt will be back in his familiar #5J this weekend after three races driving the McVey #7M. General admission gates are set to open at 5:00 pm Saturday with hot laps at 6:00 pm and opening ceremonies scheduled for 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $18, children (7-12) are $7, and those 6 and under are free. Pit passes are $30 for all ages. Saturday is also “47025 Night at the Races” and any resident with a 47025 zip code who presents a valid driver license at the gate will receive free general admission. The Lawrenceburg Speedway is also hosting a Pet Food & Toy Drive in conjunction with their friends at Kroger. For each item, you bring to donate you will receive a chance to win a $100 Kroger gift card. Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
Me and my Uncle and probably a few friends will be there to honor the memory of Dick Gaines. Seems like yesterday, But it was 2004 that BC and Dickie Gaines had a Battle Royale over this race with BC coming out on top for one of his early wins in a sprint car as he chased Dickie most of the year with a couple of top fives and a second up to that point when he was here. Between the BC Celebration Fri, Burg and Pville sat and Kokomo and Tri State Sunday, It should be a full weekend for the Sprinters in Indiana!
I wish everyone a good safe weekend. Lets Rock N Roll! Some of the top guys will be out of town with the Duqoin race and Callistoga. So wishing lots of luck to all! |

Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
Brent, Im still tossing around either Kokomo Fri or the double header of Boss next weekend then doing the Klash. Kinda limited on doing all I want to, but will do what I can. Some of it has to do with how good my leg is feeling before I leave. Last time I've done two, two race weekends. One worked out well, Sprintweek of LPS and Bloomington. The second didn't. Limaland and Burg. While I enjoyed the racing that second night. I was in a lot of pain..
I'll be there Fri If Im up to it on raceday. |
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
My plan is to be at Kokomo Fri!.
|
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
If I make it anywhere Saturday it will be the Burg. It all depends on what time I get off work
|
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb

Went outside to get something from car. Came back and there was a Grasshopper on the door. See you in a few hours :) |

Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
is STATE RD 1 open if not is there anyway around it or 275 the only way
|
1 sucks! Not sure why anyone would go that way to start with. 74 West to Batesville. Turn right off the exit on 229 to 46 East to 129 South. Take 129 South to 350 East turn left, to 50 East turn left again, to the track.
Great smooth roads! |
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
The Dick Gaines Memorial will have chamber of commerce weather this time around. I will be there and shooting for 3 - 3:30 this afternoon with some pet items in tow.

You CANNOT use this detour with a trailer because there is a one lane tunnel you drive through on Nowlin Ave. to pass under the railroad tracks. If you have a trailer or motorhome I suggest I-275. |
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
In time it's no different to do 275. Mileage yes.
Stapps way is ok, Just watch for the deer as you would have too on Rt1. But I feel its only better if your starting in downtown Greensburg. The highway is the best way to fly. |
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
Don't forget that tonight's race is also part of the 2016 Jackslash.com "Summer Series" presented by Weld Racing and will be taped for a later airing on MAV-TV.
Unofficial Summer Series points after last night's race in Kokomo: 1. Kevin Thomas, Jr. 492 |
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
On my way shortly. Tony Main and Tony McVey also racing. Should be a full field for sure to honor Dick Gaines. One of Indiana's toughest competitors ever.

Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb

Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb

It looks like Paul Dues is the only one loading up for the night. The rest are near ready or trying to do repairs. |
Sounds a like tunnel vision might've been a factor too.

Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
Only time I seen the track heavier than that was opening USAC show when they built it. It never widened more than halfway and in the sprint heats was one lane on corner exit. The cushion was difficult all night as it narrowed on exit of two and four.
Anyway, Hodges has the lead and is running away. However he aproaches back markers on a heavy narrow track. He messes around trying to go under, between anyway he can and can't figure it out. All this while Moffatt is closing in fast and gets within about four car lengths. Next time down the front stretch Hodges just goes in over the cushion and starts passing. He did it several times the rest of the race and would take the whole corner four in the fluff. Really the last time I seen that when it was that heavy was a MSCS race where both Coons and Clayton driving the 10 cars came from the tail to second and third both up in the fluff while the rest of the field is fighing in a 20ft wide lane.. Some weird stuff happened tonight. After the first sprint heat, things went a lot smother the rest of the night. Moffatt gained about thirty points on Andretti for the championship. But other than a DNF for Andretti at the next race or a huge 15 place differential in finish. Andretti may be this years LBurg Champ. Mods are dead tied in points going into final points race between Kincaid and Spillie They finished third and fourth behind winner Kramer and Shornick. Wasn't the best of tracks but wasn't the worst. On to the next race. I twas cool to see Hodges running four in the fluff though. You rarely see it anymore. I cited one example above other than tonight. ANother was Levi running above at THAT and another was Link and another car doing it to come from the tail to transfer through the B at LPS a couple years back. See you on CHampions night. Not sure there will ba any racing for me next weekend. I took my 400 mile round trip to Kokomo this week. |
Re: $3,000 to Win Dick Gaines Memorial Saturday at Lawrenceb
The sun was brutal from mid backstretch into 3 and it was the reason for the Giddens/Able accident.
