Winchester Old Timers Day Sept 27-28
 

The Winchester Old Timers would like to invite vintage race car fans to Winchester Speedway on September 27 and 28, for a vintage race car display on Saturday Sept 27 and continue the display on Sunday Sept 28, also on Sunday we will have some of the vintage cars on the famous track for a few parade laps. This is in conjuction with a USAC sprint car race along with the CRA stock cars.
So dust off those old photos and bring them by to show the vintage racers, they might have a few to show you.
Saturday and Sunday,September 27-28, Winchester Speedway.

And I'll be there marveling at mac's work on those three cars. I've been warned that mac may kick my ass for describing him as a "pot stirring, rabble rousing, old curmudgeon" on another board. :eek: But, I've talked to mac at some length before and I hope he might let me slide because I am so much like him..........except when it come to racing safety and ********. :wink:O::wink

I like seeing the old cars and the history behind them, but it seems like the same cars show up all the time.

I have been to Salem, THAT and Winchester for their old timers weekends and I see the same cars all the time.

Is the old timers just a certain few cars are if you do not belong to their club you can not show up.

Why is their not a variety of cars? Instead of the same cars at every track.

Love them or not, repition becomes boring. I can take only so many pictures.

I know what you mean, Dyno, I get the same feeling anytime I walk through a USAC pit area with 90% Beast midgets and SilverCrown cars........ or walk through the IMS garage area and see the same 100% identical specracers year after year.
I can assure you that there is a whole lot more variety of interesting cars and interesting people at any vintage meet than at any current racing series.
I can, also, assure you that if, instead of just looking at cars, you actually talk to some of the people around the vintage cars, you will find drivers whose career highlight was racing in the INDY 500 rather than a top 10 finish at Gas City, owners who actually built race cars rather than buy them off the assembly line at the Beast store, mechanics who know how to make the cars work without the free "setup sheet" from the Beast store and engines guys who actually built & tuned racing engines rather than buy "engines in a crate" from the Gearte store.

Hey Dyno! If you are at Winchester stop by and say "Hi". Its always great to put some "faces" with long time internet personalities.

As a several time visitor to Charlie Peck's shop in Elsemeire, Ky in my youth, I feel well qualified to sit with Mac Miller and the rest of the curmudgeons.:O:

I remember one of Wally's associates named Mike. but I don't know that I ever knew his last name....... could be the guy you are talking about.

I believe he was the guy who made the update fiberglass bodywork for the Kurtis midget chassis? I had a Peck body on the '47 Kurtis/ChevyII that I raced in the late 60s.

Pretty sure he was as he did a lot of fiberglass work which, between that and smoking probably did him in.:( He had that distinctive flatter nose with the smaller, horizontal grill for the Kurtis midgets.

The www.600RacingMidwest.com site has the replica vintage INEX Thunder Roadsters scheduled to race on Sunday the 28th of Sept. at Winchester Speedway as well. The drivers could include Nelson Stewart of Avon IN, KOIL Tour points leader James Edsall(Last Chance Wrecker Service), Al Renner(Super Wrench), TJ Sneva from Speedway IN, "Downtown" Darrel Brown from Trafalgar and the young hotshoe Tony Wachter from Brownsburg.

This is a chance to see '60's vintage cars compete on the High Banks!

Looks like, on Sunday, there will be more vintage cars showing up at Winchester, from the Saturday Jungle Park meet

Mr Gardner, You should add a vintage/historic forum to this sight. I can assure you that it would quickly become one of the most active forums.

The owner of the #98 Watson roadster will be there.... The owner of the #15 Boyle Valve Spl. "Miller" lives in Cal. and will not be there.
