Salem O'Conner race.

How many Silver Crown cars do you think they will have on Saturday night? Where should I go?

Go where you want, but keep in mind, this doesn't happen much anymore (nor will it if we do not support it).

racer-x 8/9/16 6:25 PM

230 miles from my house down there and I might just make the trip by myself. Like the other poster said it might be the last time to see a race like this.

My son and I plan on coming up from South Carolina as we have family in Louisville. However, the forecast for Saturday night does not look good at the moment.

I plan on going down from Seymour, the racing on the high banks of Salem is a sight to see. Hopefully the weather cooperates!!!

only takes two good ones to make a race.

racer-x 8/9/16 8:45 PM

Maybe this would be a good race for us to see not because how many cars are there, but a tribute to the one driver that won't be there.
Nothing hurts a race crowd more then the chance of rain. Why don't the weatherman on this sight nip it on daily forecast of rain for this race.

Sure would like to see someone get a seat fitted for Mr. Gerster. The last couple of years at Salem he has been spectacular to say the least.

copy that rapid.anyone remember the last usac sprint race there?not many cars but exciting at the front.brian was one of them.i dont think there are that many, shall i say, brave drivers left to run the hills. i have seen the best in my many years and of course i long for brave men to tackle the hills, but these days?

Midwest Oldtimers Vintage Race Car Club will be there Saturday. We usually have about 30 cars at Salem.

As far as Silver Crown cars they had 22 at indy, I know of two that were at Indy that will not be at Salem.

Therealether 8/11/16 7:37 AM

Anyone know if this will be streamed live on Loudpedal? I'm in FL and no way can I make it

Planning on Haubstadt Saturday and then Salem as my backup but the weather is looking horrible for both unfortunately.

Tall Jackson 8/11/16 8:38 AM

I understand if this race is a successful, Winchester will return to the schedule next year.

If Saturday is a wash, is Sunday a rain date? Anyone heard?

I would assume no since USAC has a midget race Sunday in Pennsylvania.

Love the Silver Crowns at IRP....would like to see more Pavement races in USAC. Planning to go if the weather is good.

I want to see this race, but the logical choice for me is MSCS at Haubstadt.

TommyTipover 8/11/16 3:44 PM

Has there ever been a Silver Crown race at Winchester?

Not that I can remember.

racer-x 8/12/16 7:16 PM

I sure hope this is a go for tomorrow. Does anyone know if the vintage cars will be in the infield?

bzneil 8/12/16 7:39 PM

The vintage cars will be parked behind the grandstands in the grass.

thanks in advance

Chief29 8/13/16 9:05 AM

Cloudy I'm 2.5 west of track

Re: Salem O'Conner race.

Does anyone know how many entries this race has. USAC never puts out an entry list for some reason. Or maybe the reason is not many cars.Does anyone think they can pull 20 cars for this race.Long drive for short field and threatining weather. I would make the drive without question if I thought there woul be 20 cars.

Hubie 8/13/16 9:32 AM

Re: Salem O'Conner race.

Well Dave, I went to public school and read this thread and just about everything else I could find of the subject of entry list and car count. There will be no more than 20 cars and most likely 17.

I have nothing better to do and I always supported the Traditional Joe James/Pat O'Connor so I will drive down from Indy.

Hubie do you have a free gasoline pass for any station in Indiana.HA-HA

Accuweather says rain starting in ten minutes and heavy thunderstorms tonight. Think I'll skip this one,

wildman92 8/13/16 1:27 PM

20 minutes ago per USAC Twitter

Sun is out and the Salem Speedway surface is dry. Hot laps begin at 3:30pm for the "Joe James/Pat O'Connor Memorial!"

racer-x 8/13/16 1:59 PM

It's over 4 hours from Valparaiso for me so I need to get driving if I wanna make it. If they cancel please post.

wildman92 8/13/16 2:00 PM

We are headed that way. Will keep everyone posted.

wildman92 8/13/16 2:06 PM

We are in Bedford and it is flat out pouring. Huge bolts of lightening. We might make it Salem but might not make it back!!!

racer-x 8/13/16 2:15 PM

I remember pulling into Salem with a brand new motorhome in 2003 and it had been raining the previous day's. I got halfway up the grassy hill and buried it in the mud. The sun came out and i had to get pulled out the following afternoon.

Chief29 8/13/16 2:17 PM

Hasn't even sprinkled here and I'm 1.5-2 miles away from the track

We haven't had a drop on the far eastside of Evansville, but Haubstadt is rained out!

Pavement Dave 8/13/16 2:51 PM

Can someone post who is there and how many cars. I Won't be there until race time due to work.

wildman92 8/13/16 3:05 PM

We are here. Dry. I have very sketchy cell service so may not be able to post much if at all.

wildman92 8/13/16 3:10 PM

I counted about 12 cars

According to Accuweather it is raining there! Yes, you have to stand in a certain area and hold your tongue in the correct position to even make a phone call!!!!

Have to change that statement; it is raining rather briskly at my home right now!
