Blanket Policy
Let me vent for a moment. I'm at Lawrenceburg and looking at at least 20 seats that have blankets down right in the middle of the grand stands. Qualifications are over and heat races getting ready to begin, and NO ONE has showed up to set there. Gas City is getting crucified for removing blankets, but its people like this that really ruin things. If your going to reserve seats at least have the decency to come and set in them and watch the action. I have seen several elderly people struggle to get up the stairs only to have to turn around because a blanket is down. Tracks need to quit allowing this
|
I consider Lawrenceburg my home track and Love the place. But I have seen people allowed to use caution tape to mark off 20-25 seats so it is not just blankets.Same scenario nobody in the seats and track does nothing about it. The blanket thing has to go as many people have said.
Reserved seating period is the way to go. End of story. |
If some one pays their $25 and marks a seat, what it is to you how long they sit in their seat.
|
Because I just set here tonight and watch at least 4 different areas with blankets covering enough space for 5-6 people and only 2-3 come and set there, so dont see how that's fair for fans or promoter
|
The fair is over, every one knows the blanket game & how to play it.some times you loose some times you win. It's been this way for 20+ years
|
Right on Jared...
|
If I see stuff like that and no one shows up after first heat....it gets ripped up and moved as necessary.
Its a general admission seat. If you mark it , use it. Otherwise buy a reserved seat. Sorry about the sourness. Maybe due to the fact that some Lowlife stole my seat cushion at Gas City when it was taped down. I was gone for about an hour and some ******* stole it. And yes I was going to sit on it. |
I came in around 11 am and put my blanket down for 3 people. She is disabled and can't do very many steps. We got there about 1/2 way through qualifications. It really helped us being able to do that as she only only had to do about 3 or 4 steps.
|
I see know issue with unless you go to the tracks that let people leave them year round. I don't know if any of them still do but there was a couple that I can remember years ago that did. Also we put blankets down early and sometimes especially if it's really hot we will hangout in the shade until it's close to heat racing time.

Re: Blanket Policy
I'll give it till hotlaps starts. Once the first green flag flies for hotlaps, well im moving your stuff if that's where I want to sit. And we can discuss it as politely or un-politely as you would like. Makes no difference to me.

There are plenty of good seats at Lawrenceburg Speedway even with a very nice Sprint week crowd. I really don't see how this is an issue.
There are plenty of things to complain about, but seating shouldn't be one of them at The Burg. |
Re: Blanket Policy
Well I guess from now on I am going to roll in at the last minute walk up to the top row and sit down on the empty blanket. No one is going to use it anyways right?

I don't see how anyone can justify paying for a single ticket and blocking 3-4 spots.

Get to the track early. Problem solved.

Re: Blanket Policy
Sometimes I see that and its the drivers wife or girlfriends that are down selling shirts that come up to watch their guy race, which I get and understand because they need to make a living and yet wanna see their person race. Like one person said, I have traveled with people with handicaps too and cant sit there from the time the gates open to the end and come up late. BOTH very valid reasons and why they should be left alone
|
The problem is people reserving to many seats. I saw many places where people put down a blanket for 5-6 people and only 2-3 people sat there.

Lots of people know me and will "watch out" for my spot. I am there to enjoy myself just like anyone else, but I'm a member of the media that is there for a reason. Rip up my blanket and they will probably get at you before I do. And if they don't, being a media member means I know almost all the track owners, and I'll at least attempt to get you thrown out. If that doesn't work, have you ever been around a p'd off media member? I'll add, my view is blankets should not be put down before the gates open. Jim Fisher |
Back in the "Dark Ages" when I was involved in promoting the 'Burg' I don't remember anyone coming in and reserving seats prior to a race. While I was not in charge of ticket sales, I do believe we did not open the gates until a few hours before hot laps. I guess with that policy reserving seats was not an issue that was even on the table.

Re: Blanket Policy
This should be the policy for all tracks: Nobody covers a seat till the gates open, you stand in line buy a ticket then go inside and cover your seat if you wish.
This idea of covering seats at the beginning of the year or on the first day of a multiple day event in not right. If tracks want out of state business then make it fair for all those that travel great distances. My hat goes off to the O'Conner family for enforcing this policy. |
Re: Blanket Policy
I think marking seats the day of a event is fine but after a event track should take up any blanks left behind. The way GC used to be with locals marking seats at first show of the season. and never showing up for the big shows just wasn't right those blankets should been taken up after every show. As for this year that was just plain wrong , If they didn"t want people marking seat then the gates should have been LOCKED with a sign explaining when you could save your seats. As for what David said about guys saveing seat for their coolers that's just wrong, and someone in charge should been told about that. I sit with the Morgans more often than not and they mark the seats the day of the show and only for people they know are coming (if 6 people say they are coming then 6 seats are saved) and before the feature is ran that blanket is taken up . :8:

Re: Blanket Policy
I would go with nothing in the stands for each night till the gates open. Also the track needs some type of staff member to be walking around the stands as the night goes on to deal with some of the stuff that happens. Even if it is just the person selling 50/50 tickets. Been awhile, but the last time I was at Kokomo, (just a regular show). I stood in line at the gate, paid, when up, put a blanket down and sat down. About 10 minutes later a guy shows up and tells me that I am in his spot. I asked if it was a reserved seat. Nope, I was just in his spot. Well he got to try out a new spot that night.
In the street rod world,at car shows you have the same type of deals. Guys save parking spots. Take up a lot of spots with lawn chairs. Then you never see a car parked in the spot. So I am thinking along with the saving a spot in the stands all year, I will take up a few parking spots close to the gate all year too. |

Wasn't there long until a deputy sheriff came and told us we had to move. Nobody ever did show up and use those seats. I said something on here about it and Dave said he had to take care of his weekly fans, needless to say, he lost a couple of possible weekly fans that night, haven't been back since.

I can't believe someone hasn't said something about Putnamville. Last year during ISW, I sat in the elevated bleachers near turn 4. I got there late and found an empty seat between two sections of blankets marking eight seats each. Behind me was a blanket and in front of me was a blanket. At least 24 prime seats marked by blankets. I spent the ENTIRE evening by myself... No one ever came to claim those seats. The person I felt the worst for was the promoter. He lost some good revenue that night.
I traveled to every event last year during ISW and saw much of the same... Everywhere but Haubstadt. Doesn't seem to be an issue there.... Perhaps the addition years ago of the reserved seating on the back stretch eliminated this issue. Something the other promoters might take note of. |
