What motor modifications are permissible & what tech procedures/tools do you employ?

Just a thought from one of my rants. You could probably allow National Motors to race with you if you restricted them to a 80" X 10" right rear or smaller tire. They don't make a narrow 82" OR 84" but Hoosier does make a 80" left rear. You could still probably get pretty close to the right stagger. The racer would probably also want to get one of the harder #'s as they are pretty soft. It would be an interesting experiment and might allow you to get a few more cars also. As far as tec a bore gauge should suffice.:) When the purse starts approaching $2000,00 you might want to get a little tougher on that tec stuff, until then everybody have some cheap fun. Heck the Hoosier 80" X 10" might make a nice Spec tire for the series?? It would kind of neutralize Horsepower on the big motors and not have too much effect on the lower horsepower cars. Should be off to a good start, great weather and what seems to be a good series to get out and have fun. Of course you always have to remember even in fun,
Racing is dog eat dog and your wearing milkbone underwear, both racers and promoters. Don't worry about motor rules, you guys are running engines. Inless your car has a starter, then you can modify your electric motor (starter) to help initiate starting of your engine. |
Re: MLMS Midgets Purse for US 24 April 16th race
So, what a lot of vehicles that these powerplants came out of should really be called "enginecycles" and what we do is really "enginesports"?

Re: MLMS Midgets Purse for US 24 April 16th race
Jim, did you get yours sorted out, sorta? I'm in a holding pattern, am going ahead and build an engine, right or wrong, it's easier to buy the parts, than sell them, and I got most of them. Good luck, still might see ya along the way this season. Bob

He got it done yesterday and it's somewhere in Priority Mail Limbo working its' way up I-65, but if it's not here tonight I'm throwing in the towel for this weekend, especially with Montpelier going off 2 hours early this week. Once I'm dialed in I'm hoping to make some of Jay's shows when they don't conflict, maybe a few of the USAC Indiana series too . |

Lookin good as usual, I did that for about the first 3 seasons, then decided it wasn't worth the time and money, so I just keep it as clean as I can, and from 10ft away, who knows, and ya got the right color on it too! Hope ya make it this weekend, but if ya don't, there's always next week. or next time. Bob

Re: MLMS Midgets Purse for US 24 April 16th race
Thanks Bob. I did the tank with Rustoleum rattle cans 3 years ago, it's held up remarkably. I did get a new nose and hood for this season though and plan on putting some DIY half wrap scallops on them, but if by a miracle or two I get out this week it'll be the old stuff with yellow 200mph tape repairs.
What can I say? I grew up going to Ascot, in my mind Open Wheel race cars are supposed to be pretty. |

I caught that compression bent ex pipe on your call. Didn't your daddy tell you that that killed all your horsepower.:5: :39: Nice to see that you are still engaged in the great Motor-Engine debate. Honest Dad himself:6: |
Re: MLMS Midgets Purse for US 24 April 16th race
I think that's how they came from Rosson; all I know for sure is that's how it was when I got it, and the big ol muffler can ends up right on top of my nerf bar, so that's OK.
As far as the "great debate" goes, I'm glad there's 3 series in the area now where I can let the Peregrine Falcon hunt. Choice is a good thing. |
