Who has been a USAC owner the longest?
Just wondering if anyone knows who the oldest current owner in USAC is? Gotta wonder who is actually been involved the longest. Galen Fox? Paul Hazen? Gene Nolen?

Foyt? Ray Smith? Gotta be Hoffman though. In since late 20's AAA days. |
Re: Who has been a USAC owner the longest?
Don't know when Hazen started with Sprints But Richard took over running Hoffman in the 60s and they ran sprints till they went to Indy then came back. Indy was USAC then too.

Just curious to know because my dad has been an owner since 1974.

Re: Who has been a USAC owner the longest?
Hazen started driving in 1957 and put someone else in the car in the mid 60's. This will be his 59th year. Not sure of his first year with usac however.
|
Hoffman had a 1983 Attempt at the 500 with Jerry Sneva and Dick Ferguson, with Schoenling Little Kings, and I believe an '84 Indy with Spike Gilhausen and Little Kings, and an '85 with Steve Kristloff. Their Facebook page I believe list all of their drivers over the years, and it is a big list with many big names both from the past, recent past, and current. Note: not all of their Indy races were with USAC, CART got mixed up in there.

Re: Who has been a USAC owner the longest?
Cart and all the engine/chassis lease programs are what kicked the little guy and small shops out of it for good IMO.
All for a extra 20mph that they've since dialed back several times. |
