DOT at Lawernceburg?
Any idea if the DOT will be doing inspections outside the track:thumbsdown: at Lawrencburg again this weekend or if the Local "undercover cops" will be harrassing you when you enter the track pretending to be looking for parking stickers in you windsheild but saying they smell pot burning???
Who needs this kind of treatment to go racing?:headbang |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?

Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
I can't wait to hear WHY you have to have a DOT # for a pickup pulling an enclosed trailer that is for your own personal use?
I heard the DOT was busting Rigs going to Bloomington last year at the end of the season too. |

It doesn't matter if its personal or not if you are pulling a trailer and going to an event and you get paid for this event ( i don't want to hear well what if i missed the show, that doesn't count) then you have to have DOT numbers. Then depending on the size of your vehicle will you need to have a CDL. I know they have been outside of tracks and the horse tracks also and taking notes so they're coming people. |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
Reference smelling pot statement above....I am a cop and I smell it almost everytime I am walking through Kokomo's lot, and had a run in with some dopers at the US Nationals. Leave it at home folks....
US Nationals story that I think is funny: I am taking my son's wagon back to the truck, because its not allowed inside the gates even though I am trying to help keep a four yr old happy so I can enjoy the day also..., back to the story. I get to my truck and observe two dudes toking it up and not even trying to hide it. SO I put the wagon in the back of the truck and do the approach. I dont actually look like a cop, buzzed head almost bald and a Goatee. I start talking like a stoner saying "DUDE WHAT YOU GUYS GONNA DO WHEN THE COPS FIND YA SMOKING WEED?" THe subject smoking the joint chokes a bit and replies "WHere they at man?" as he begins looking over both shoulders. Then I badge them saying "RIGHT HERE DIP ****!" Put it out and get away from me before I change my mind. Doper States "I am sorry man..." You cant go any place without it anymore.... NHRA Cars are pretty amazing sober, why you got a be high? Motormasher if you dont like it call a crackhead next time you need the police and see how that goes for ya. You will never understand until you are in those shoes. |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
Let me tell you all a story about SprintWeek.
The local Gestapo searched my car for drugs, why I do not know. But I got the feeling it was a money thing. Granted I went to my car often when ever there was down time or a class I did not want to see and because you could not carry beer in to the track. I park close to the front gate for this very reason. Here is the topper. As I was going to my car for a cold beer my name and licesne plate number was announce over the PA. I thought someone had hit my car. When I arrived there was 3 cops standing next to my car and they asked me how I got there so fast. I told them I was already on my way because of lack of action on the track. They asked me what I had in my trunk, as their dope dog got a hit on my car. I told them, BEER. They laughed, and asked to search my trunk. I said have at it, but let me get a beer first. I got my beer. They searched my trunk,my girl friends purse, my cooler and my trash bag that I use to keep my trash in. But what was funny, they did not look in my car or into the folding chairs in a bag I had in the back of the trunk. I think this was a scam to find some minor infraction that they could sight one for. When they ran my plate, they knew right then I was clean with no record, why the harssment? It is a money game. Like The ' Burg has not got enought money from the casino. If they were really looking for drugs, I would think the parking garage at The Casino would be a better place to look. If this kind of police harassment keeps up, I can see the L'Burg Speeedway going down the tubes. I have second thoughts about going back. |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
If a dog alerts to the presence of drugs there is no reason to ask for permision to search the vehicle. When a plate is ran it only tells us who the vehicle is registered to, not their ******** record....or past run ins with the law. Your license only tells us if it is valid and how many points, to get your driving record it has to be requested and ran a different way that takes a few minutes longer.
But I forgot....everybody knows our jobs better than we do. If there was drugs out there and you and your family obseved it....it would be more of the Cops are lazy around here, stupid, ect. The cops that arent race fans cant tell if a guy is going to his car to get drunk or get high..... I am done, bash us some more, we will still show up if you call for help. |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
No, I believe it's just ISP and DOT enforcing what they're told to enforce and harrassing people. I always wear my seatbelt but I stopped at the Tire store which has my banks atm machine about a mile up the street from Da Burg. Pull out and Bam. seat belt ticket. Then when I just go down to pay it. They say they can't take the money because the ticket hasn't been turned in yet. I go back two weeks later and they still say they can't accept payment because he haddn't turned it in. I said write the friggin ticket number down. Give me a recipt and put the money in a envelope.
Take the seatbelt off to get my wallet then drive a quarter mile. Sorry I bet four cars passed us at 70mph+ while he was giving me the ticket. Yeah its against the law but IMHO there are too many stupid ones. and Im sad that people like Only dirt have to chase down minor offences while serious ones go unchecked. Bet there was plenty of Alcohol served and consumed at the U.S Nationals something every bit as intoxicating as Pot. Oh wait. It's legal. Nevermind PS, My father was a officer and thinks many things are just wrong with the sytem anymore and retired because he wasn't allowed to bust the big offenders but your told by the Govt and your commuities are paid by the Fed Govt. durring times like Labor day and Mem day to write seat belt tickets. |

Chuck if you would have had your seat belt on, then maybe the Ticket Natzi couldhave wrote a speeding ticket, but he was preoccupied with your infraction. See it never ends. Seat belt zones are federaly funded and have mandatory quotas, the only quotas that exist. Quotas are usually based on activity not tickets to head that arguement off. |

Chuck, not denying he pulled me over for my (ILLEGAL ACTION) But thinks he would have still gone after another seat belt offender over someone doing 70 in a 40 because they are paid to enforce that law at that time and not ALL THE TIME. |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
INMHO the DOT deal is the same as the seatbelt law. Has NOTHING to do with anything other than ticket revenue for the state or county. The seatbelt deal was the worst I've heard of untill this DOT thing. Both laws are in my opinion an open door for the law to make legal searches. It's sad....I would love to know wich elected officials get up in the morning only to come up with these stupid ideas for new laws.

I totally agree with your last post completely! Unfortunatley the smaller things are the most important in the eyes of the people who run this show. |

Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
If you obey the laws, whether you agree with them or not, you are extremely unlikey to be bothered by law officers.
Is that simple enough? |

Just screwed up system and don't even get into roadblocks that they have no right to assume your drunk with no reasonable cause to check you for more than DUI. |

SORRY, There is no reasonable cause or suspision just because you are driving. I've had this happen as well and because I was obeying every law and had no warrents or anything on me I was let go. DON't say its not a bother. I was scarred and offended. Chuck |

What about any kind of suspicion? As in if the car reeks of alky, nothing can be searched as long as nothing is in view? What if the driver reeks or what if the driver doesn't and how does that law work? |

Oh I had a box of shotgun shells on the backseat coming home from Outdoor World on a friday night. Seems the only advertisment they have about em in ohio is newspaper and radio announcments that you may or may not catch. I seen lights but thought nothing of it till I seen em checking when I got close enough. Actually I was manhandled pretty good to put me arms across hood and stuff while they yelled wheres the gun? Wheres the gun? Like I had it in my hands? Id didn't even have one. Don't get me wrong, Nobody here is critizing you for doing your job and the way your told to do it. I have a problem with the targeting, Illegal search and seizures ect and I know its a very dangerous job. A simple traffic stop can be deadly in some cases and I know the domestics are nothing less than violent situations they stick you in. In this case is race rigs they are targeting, Next week will be dump trucks, the next Semi's. Chuck not saying busting law breakers is wrong but I see money grabs being the issue and not the public safety. P.S. In Hamilton County Ohio, Cy leis dictates that if you pull em over they are getting a ticket for something. DOn't waist your time! Told to me by several deputies I know. |
Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
Illinios is almost as bad if not worse.Recently I recived a seat belt ticket, and 2 warnings; 1 for windshield obstruction( minature sports helmet hanging from mirror) 2 ball hitch on bumper. The ticket I recieved had me listed in my truck, the warnings had me driving an 80 Chevy truck. Whats up with that? I went to pay my ticket 3 days later with $50 worth of pennies I had purchased from the bank, just as a harrasment to them as they were harrassing me, and they refused to accept them. Since when aren't coins a form of CASH ?

Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
I really wanted to stay out of this but since some people seem to be stretching the truth about the law, all I can say is get a box of Kleenex. Ty has only been trying to explain and some people have been jumping on him. I'll agree that some laws are petty but to say that those laws are there just so we can search is absolutely untrue. The DOT thing is ridiculous and seems overly picky.
At least this topic made for good spirited discussion. Shane who thinks Chuck is ready to move into a cabin out in Idaho, grow a long beard and not pay anymore taxes to the tyrannic government. (just kiddin Chuck) Shane |

your not the first to try. I remember reading a story of guy who was sent a ticket with a picture from a red light camera, he sent in a picture of a cashiers check back to them, and they sent back a picture of handcuffs. I believe he paid the fine or he was arrested. I know last weekend in Illinoise, they had a state police car posted every 10 miles on major highways. I think what police should do is stop buying Crown Vics. Why, what does everyone do when they see a crown vic, slow down. What do you do if you see a Chevy Malibu or some other common car? Nothing, seeing a crown vic only slows you until you are not anywhere near that car then you speed back up. I know this sounds like entrapment, but I believe only slwoing you down once only scares you temp. Not knowing what a cop is driving means you drive more cautious when driving. |

Chuck you are exactly RIGHT ON EVERY POINT you have made here and are a perfect example of whats going wrong with the Law.
Seat Belt tickets are a JOKE! What gets me is they give these cops $60,000 cars to go out and write $25.00 tickets, but your right, they just want to INVADE YOUR PRIVACY! The beer in the parking lot story is a real "winner". . . unbeleivable! |

Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
Instead of bashing the police officer(s) for doing their jobs and enforcing the stupid laws as they are required to do so and probably ordered to do so by their superiors do some research when it comes voting time. Research the laws and find out what legislator(s) introduced the bill and which one voted for the stupid laws to be passed and then vote them out of office at ******** time. Don't bash the police because they are doing a job just like you are to do yours.

Re: DOT at Lawernceburg?
I mean no disrespect Onlydirt but I would hope cops are looking for bigger fish to fry than wasting time writing seatbelt tickets. I know I have contributed to many fourth of July officers parties with tickets that were pretty marginal to say the least. I just wish I saw more cops looking and helping fight the real criminals and offenders than easy pickens to generate some cash. The cops that just sit in a hidden area with a radar gun is pretty lame. I would rather see them driving around and keeping an eye on things and show their presence than hiding in some weeds to ticket someone going 10 over on a fast moving highway.

Depends on what your asigned to do that day...sometimes its Big CIty Big County Seatbelt Patrol (Federal Program/Grant), Radar, or just general patrol and calls for service. Go to your local police department and see if they have a ride a long program, sheds some light on what the job is really about.
