Chili Bowl car vs. National series car

So, several times we have heard that the Chili Bowl cars are special built and are different than a national series car. So, other than it weights a lot less how are they different? What do they do different to the cars to get the weight out? I am assuming that the motors would be the same in this correct? How many parts carry over from one car to the next?

Thanks
Jon

With the exception of a few one off builds (like mcreedys car) they are all national midgets. There's nothing "special" about them and all parts and engines transfer over. The main difference between the chili bowl and national classes is at the chili bowl they're permitted to run 10 in left rears and 12 in right rears whereas most national series limit size down to 8's and 10's.

That's the jist of it.

Would McCreadie's car be legal in other racing series?

Not really sure, to be honest.

It looked like some were designed to spin every other lap.

A lot of cars may look like national legal cars, but there are quite a few made with lightweight tubing throughout that are not legal in a national event..

I can still remember the chili bowl car that was selling on racing junk a year or so ago..... Full titanium cage, if I remember right $30,000 bought the roller haha.

Wonder what ever happened to that thing? I wonder how well the chassis would even work, titanium is rather stiff the spring rates would probably have to be unconventional.

And some are national car builds but just run Chili Bowl.

That car ran last years chili bowl, didn't see it there this year.

Mike Minarik out of the Denver suburbs had a hi-tech bicycle shop in Boulder Colorado build the entire frame out of Titanium. Mike designed it, he chose the bicycle shop because they specialized in hi-tech Ti bike frames. Minarik never ran the car, I believe he finished it as a roller then sold it to some other race team that put a engine in it, and re-sold it. Not sure of any details, Minarik is a buddy of mine, he's on Facebook.

That car was built here in Colorado by Mike Minarik. The was an owner that had 3 cars but focused on Tulsa. His drivers included P.J. Jones, Chad Boat and others. Mike's cars were always some of the nicest around and always the cleanest most polished cars in the pits. I am the proud owner of one of these cars. The Ti car was built with all new parts and not one small detail was over looked. I know at the time I purchased my car the bill was over 80k on it and it wasn't even a roller yet.

The Titanium car from Colorado was sold to a man in Houston who did run it at that chili bowl last year the front axle snapped on its first run , it was sold as a ready to run.

The same guy that bought the titanium car also bought the other car the gentleman from Colorado had for sale I believe it was yellow and a normal midget
