A nice schedule for the fans. I like how every "round" is a Friday-Saturday doubleheader. Kudos for the GLSS guys for putting some thought into this. :6:

Now, how this works for the teams running.....? But good for us fans.

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

The Friday/Saturday deal might be nice, but the fact the tracks are not that close together really doesn't do a lot for that..Only other concern, does this mean now that there are two winged sprint car groups in Michigan as well as the MTS bunch..Do we have that many sprint cars to get decent car counts to these tracks or are we going to have people in the stands complain because of low car counts? I know here are not many MTS guys that try and run with the winged boys but,,,

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

Currently, there is only one night that both SOD and GLSS are scheduled concurrently. I'm sure SOD will be releasing several more dates, so that may change. The potential is there for there to be enough cars for both, if drivers want to run both, as of now. Hopefully, everyone will play nice.

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

Interesting schedule. There are 13 open dates or other series schedules (Kings Royal, Knox. 360 Nationals, etc). Not sure why these are on the schedule. Should they add Trophy Cup and Little Rock? I thought they were planning a bunch of shows in OH and IN and they must not be in good graces with the NRA with no co-sanctions. Should be interesting. Heard Dustin Daggett is out of a ride and Mott is selling everything off due to health concerns. Perhaps heading back to the family ride.

Going to be an interesting 2016 in Michigan.

And THAT is the key point with these two groups.

Good spot, Eric.

GLSS is 360 Sprints, correct? This is basically what SOD became after they went back to 410s?

Correct. SOD went to a 360 / 410. Drivers can run either.

Eric Smith 1/15/16 4:25 PM

SOD announcement today adding two Butler shows. Same days as GLSS already published their Butler shows. Gonna be lots of sprint cars there those nights.

This puts SOD back-to-back at Hartford and Butler May 20th and 21st! And.... the GLSS runners can always race with SOD at Hartford, too. It might not on the GLSS schedule but it is right down I-94.

Not to mention, with these two combined shows at Butler there should be nothing stopping GLSS from entering the SOD battle. 360s can hold their own at Butler. Years back..... oh..... early 2000s, SOD and the IRA had a duel event at Butler. It was one of their WWIII shows. There were 110-ish cars in the pits. With the SOD guys entering the IRA race on top of the SOD race, there were so many cars involved in the IRA race that the IRA blew off qualifying and went to passing points for their heat races that night.

O, to get back to days like those again.....!

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

My guess is GLSS didn't have signed contracts for those dates and published them but Butler signed contracts with SOD for those dates. Gotta make you wonder how many of the other GLSS dates on the schedule do not have signed contracts but from what I have heard GLSS has leased the majority of the tracks they are running or bringing quite a bit of cash towards the purse on the nights they run to get dates.

An interesting angle, staggerman. If that is the case, the GLSS business model comes into question.

I am personally hoping the Butler business model is what drove this and they are just going to shoot for two big shows with the combination of SOD & GLSS.

On the up side, so far SOD & GLSS are only racing once on the same night in two different places - 6/16 at Merritt & Thunderbird respectively. Of course there are still more dates to be added by both sanctioning bodies. I say so far so good, Eric. Maybe I am just optimistic at this point, though.

So it looks like SOD and GLSS on the same night is NOT happening. GLSS posted on Twitter that dates have changed. August 12 and 13 they will be running at Winston and Thunderbird. The Mount Pleasant and Butler dates were moved to July 22 and 23.

He said he only has one confirmed date with Butler now and that is July 23. They are working on another date.

Well that's just great. We now have two winged sprint series up here in Michigan and the only thing that could POSSIBLY screw this up is scheduling races on the same night at two different places. And here we go....

The 8/13 date with GLSS at Thunderbird now pares down what would have been a GREAT night at Butler. Butler will still draw well for they have their weekly runners that will be there with anyone who comes in with SOD.

GLSS moving dates to 7/22 & 7/23 from 8/12 & 8/13...... I'll be at Kokomo for the two day All Star show that weekend. Too bad.... I would have watched GLSS both 8/12 & 8/13.

Holy crap. :14:

It will be interesting to see what MTS does as well. In the past they tried not to schedule against SOD. I assume they will continue this practice. My guess is they won't be as kind about scheduling against GLSS. I just hope that we don't have multiple weekends where 2 of the series are running on the same night along with Bulter running their weekly show.

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

Not to hijack this thread too much, but I am still slightly venting off steam.

There is a new series in Ohio this year - OSCS / Ohio Sprint Car Series. It is a winged 410 series from what I understand with all races within the state of Ohio.
Now, in Ohio, you have the All Stars (who are pretty much based out of there), the Fremont Attica Series (FAST), and now these guys. Three series.

The OSCS has released a 19 race schedule for their first season.

http://ohiosprintcars.net/Schedule.aspx

One of the races will be co-sanctioned with FAST at Fremont Speedway. That leaves 18 races. Of those 18 races when compared to the All Star schedule, only ONE of them, on July 9th, is on the same night as an All Star race in the state of Ohio. ONE! On the other dates where the OSCS and All Stars race on the same night the All Stars are out of state in either Michigan, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania. And.... AND.... this ONE race where they both race in Ohio the same night, the OSCS will be at Atomic Speedway whilst the All Stars will be at Sharon Speedway, clear across the state, which for all practical purposes is damn near IN Pennsylvania.

Don't tell me brains and foresight cannot overcome scheduling atop each other. All we need is to find brains and foresight. There might still be time, but the 2016 clock is ticking.

Oh, sure. No argument there, stoney. GLSS is in the same boat, though - a start up series looking for identity and trying to get going. I was simply making a comparison of what goes into making a schedule for 2016 with respect to both parties.

You could also say that SOD and GLSS did a good job not scheduling against the big shows in Michigan. So far neither is scheduled to run on the nights that ASCOC or ASCS come to Michigan. GLSS is scheduled both nights the WOO come. When the woo are at Hartford GLSS. Runs at Tri City. When WOO are at I96, GLSS is co sanctioned with ASCS in Indina. It's too bad at least one of the woo shows you won't see Dagget if he is running for points with GLSS.

One thing to note the OSCS and FAST show you mentioned is the same night the All Stars are at Butler so that's a loss for Butler.

It's also worth noting comparing GLSS and SoD would be better to compare OSCS, OVSCS and FAST which more than likely will be scheduled against each other.

There are just so many series out there they are bound to conflict.

Sprintcarfanatic 1/24/16 2:22 PM

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

OSCS came about because of OVSCA which is still a series in Southern Ohio ran by Billy Jarrell. Sounded to me like most racers were tired of the paltry pay & really late nights & out of this OSCS was born.

OSCS is going to be a deal ran by Brad McCown (?) that runs Atomic Speedway.

Whats that do to Limalands shows that were co-sanctioned with NRA along with the Memorial Day Weekend with Waynesfield & Eldora ? Guess we will just have to wait & see.

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

I would think by June you will know what club to go watch and what one will be a waste of time. In years past we have had a lot of clubs racing and fighting for car counts. I can remember nights when you would have All Stars-IRA-SOD-I-96-Butler all running on the same night. I would think MTS would have the same amount of cars. Its just a waiting game to see were the SOD cars go this year. I do not think it matters what the cars in other states do. Not a lot of out state cars come to Michigan anymore. I do have a question. If SOD and GLSS are at the same track at the same night. Is that two shows-two purses?

Eric do you plan on following either series for points or will you be picking and choosing?

If you are following GLSS will you be showing up to SOD races with your 360 on off nights? I'm just curious if guys with 360s plan on giving SOD a try.

Eric Smith 1/24/16 10:41 PM

I hope to race one or the other for points and race as much as the other as I can. I bought a 410 block and started collecting 410 parts, hoping to put one together to run SOD and whatever other 410 stuff was in the area. But, I spent a weekend in the hospital in November, and the bills for that put a significant dent in the money I had saved to build motors and race next year with. I race 100% out of my own pocket, so I only have whatever I can scrounge and save. Much of that went away. So now I'm not sure what exactly I'll be doing. I kind of plan to sell the 410 stuff to be able to race 360s. If that's what happens, I will run SOD races with my GLSS motor, yes.

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

SOD has released their full schedule today. Looks like they and GLSS will only be stepping on each other a couple of times this season, so all in all, despite all of my worries and complaints, I guess that is about as good as it gets - unless more changes to the schedules are forthcoming.

As of now, BOTH are scheduled at I-96 Speedway on 8/19. It is on both schedules and I-96's schedule.

I'll let nathan take the lead in posting the SOD docket. He's our man for doing so.

The GLSS season finale will now be at Butler Aug 27 for 2000 to win. In addition Butler is teaming up with FAST for a 3000 to win 410 show on the same night. It also looks like FAST 305s will be there for 1000 to win. Mark that night down.

They do not have GLSS on it for 5/21 so I have updated the aforementioned schedule of SOD/GLSS/MTS.

June 18 is your day where all 4 are racing. It makes you wonder what car counts will be at those tracks. I'm hopeful or optimistic that more choices will be better for sprint car fans. Maybe instead of dividing up the cars we have it brings out more cars because whether they are a 360 or 410 they are going to have 2 nights of racing possible a lot of weekends. Maybe more drivers will get some cars out. Then the nights let's say only SOD races you get a huge field of cars unlike any we have seen lately in the mitten state. I don't have a way with words like Mike I'm more of a rambler.

Re: Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) 2016 Schedule

According to facebook, MTS changed their 8/12 Hartford date to 8/5. This is great. GLSS is at Winston on the 12th. Now we have eliminated this date for scheduling atop each other. I have, once again, altered the above composite schedule to reflect this.

Do you think these guys are talking to each other......

.....or are they just reading this thread on IOW and going from there?

Thanks for the kind words, MIracing. Ramble on. You are doing fine. :6:

Actually for us at Hartford we are hosting an Off-Road event on August 12th-13th, so that eliminated the possibility of having sprint cars (didn't think they would enjoy the baja jumps down the front stretch :6:) so we bumped the event to the 5th.
