Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

MVT / BOSS 2016 Schedule Release

The much anticipated 2016 Mo Vaughn Transport / Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series schedule is now official. The last five seasons have seen steady growth and this season is no exception. Two new venues have been added and one track is back after a year's absence. All of the traditional stops are back and the most prestigious race on the tour has found a new Sunday home on Memorial Day weekend.

A record twenty-two events will make up the tour as the last TRUE outlaws of sprint car racing will attack 16 different tracks in 3 states. Ten of the best facilities the Buckeye state has to offer will host events with the season opener on Saturday, April 30th at Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe, Ohio. In July, BOSS made a triumphant return to the 3/8 mile oval with what many people called the best race in the track's history. The 25 lap green to checker non stop feature saw 3 different leaders on the final circuit with the trio closing for a photo finish. Todd Kane narrowly edged Landon Simon and Dallas Hewitt, with Hewitt flipping down the front straight at the checkers!

Fremont Speedway and Atomic Speedway will play host to the series three times. Wayne County Speedway and Lawrenceburg Speedway will be visited twice each with return visits to Millstream, Limaland, Legendary Hilltop and Waynesfield all in Ohio. The tour will once again enter Pennsylvania for 3 nights of racing with return engagements at Mercer Raceway Park, Lernerville Speedway and Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Four events will take place in the Hoosier state. In addition to the two races at Lawrenceburg, a return visit to Montpelier Motor Speedway is on tap and Whitewater Valley Speedway will make a return to the tour after a year off.

The exciting news is the addition of two new premiere facilities in Ohio. Attica Raceway Park will host its long awaited first ever BOSS event on Friday, July 8th in a doubleheader with Waynesfield's Dick Spencer Memorial the following night. The other major new addition is the tour's first ever visit to Portsmouth Raceway Park located on the Ohio river. PRP is home of the $100,000 to win late model Dirt Track World Championship and has not hosted an open wheel event in several years. One of the nicest tracks in the state, it has remained a mystery for the die-hard open wheel fans. That all changes as July 23rd will give them a reason to experience PRP first hand.

Twenty-two events on 16 different tracks ranging from the tight quarter mile at Legendary Hilltop to the monster 5/8 mile Pittsburgh Motor Speedway. The 2016 race trail promises to be as diverse as the drivers who proudly make up the series. A true traveling TOUR hitting all the best tracks in and around the state. Mark your calendar's now!

Watch for many more exciting announcements in the next few weeks. Fans and teams can rest assured that there will be no changes to the BOSS program and no needless requirements or rule changes will be made. The Outlaws of BOSS will continue to race under the open tire rule with no minimum weight rule and no memberships or entry fees of any kind. Once again, a cash points fund of over $15,000 plus prizes and awards will be up for grabs for the top 15 in final points standings.

For more information, be sure to follow the series on Facebook and Twitter or keep an eye on the website at www.buckeyesprints.com

Was hoping to see them return to Moler Raceway on the east side of Cincinnati. Looked like it was going to be a good show before the rains came last summer.

Whitewater Valley? Did someone buy and re-re-name Union County?

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

Thought Boss ran there last year or year before last (Whitewater).

Fremont had a hand in that with Moler & yes I'd like to go back. Moler should know now what kind of fan base & car count it could get.

Eatin Dirt 1/12/16 4:35 PM

Went to the race at Whitewater 2 yrs ago and the feature was very good racing between Logan Hupp and KT jr.

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

What I'm getting at is the track operated as Union County Speedway last year, shut down early because they couldn't keep the generator running and is listed as for sale on the U.C.S. website; just curious who's at the helm this year...

sprinter14 1/12/16 5:20 PM

Much like the Moler event one year ago, the Whitewater race is a lease by a third party race promoter. I'm not at liberty (no pun intended) to make the announcement just yet, but the plan is for Whitewater to run a few special events only this year.

I knew it used to be called Whitewater Valley, that's why I said re-re-name...
Good to hear there will be some shows there this year; I had fun running with the Midgets last year, even though only one show ran to completion out of 4 attempts (2 rainouts, one gen-out and the complete show was delayed by generator issues too).

Is the rebar still sticking out of the fence?

Everything but the half buried grader outside turn one was addressed that night before a car took the track. and this was what? 6years ago?

Here we go again always someone to bash a race track somewhere.. If I remember right sprint cars did not have cages at one point and no one complained about that most drivers did not like when they put the cage on.. Would I drive one with out a cage? No . But point is racing will never be a safe thing there is always danger that is part of it so if you truly love the sport go out and support your local track don't bash it none of them are perfect or perfectly safe but that's the chance we take

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

Guys I wasnt talking about the race you are which is the one Barhorst promoted. I was there at a race before that where rebar WAS sticking out of the fence and the owner refused to clip it off. They raced anyway and I havent been there since. If you want to risk your life Logan that is certainly up to you but when it comes to safety I am going speak up. Flame me if you want I dont care. I go to over 50 races a year, every year so dont tell me I dont support or love the sport. Last time I looked there was freedom of speech in this country.....isnt there?

I have never been to this place. what makes it so hard to promote? Serious question. Not trying to be a smart a**

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

I think one of the biggest issues is it's perched up on a hill, and the access road is a narrow, steep, single-track concrete "driveway" that is difficult for passenger cars to negotiate, let alone race car haulers. The racing surface has quite a few rocks in it, but it's a good size and can be pretty racy, so nothing that can't be remedied. It seemed like Billy tried to do some positive things last year but the rainouts probably contributed to his inability to get the generator working; I'm sure it must have hurt his operating margin. Last year was the first time I'd seen the track but it looked like the facilities were in the process of being improved, and with a few more changes it could be a really nice race track.

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

One of the benefits of drivers racing with a sanctioned series is that we really try hard to do our homework. I personally visit all new tracks added to our schedule. One year ago, anyone who follows me or the series on social media may remember that I made 3 trips to Legendary Hilltop in Marietta, Ohio posting several photos showing that we were preparing the track for sprints. We also take Bobby Gompf and his safety crew from the Burg with us every chance we get!

As for Whitewater, everyone wants to bring up issues from a cancelled midget race there several years ago. Please remember that this place had a great promoter in 2014 who worked his ass off to break even. He made a lot of changes and improvements. BOSS ran there that season and anyone who was in attendance that night will tell you it was a great show with 35 non wing sprints and a slide job battle for the ages between one of BOSS's best and one of USAC's best and our "Lightning" Logan Hupp prevailed.

The last time we raced there, the infamous grader was nowhere to be found off turn 1. The rebar had been cut back from the wall. The issues were addressed prior to a BOSS show and we will do the same (if there are any issues) before we run there again. Bobby Gompf's safety crew has already been contracted to travel with BOSS to this event and several others.

Thank you all for supporting the BOSS series. Besides bring Whitewater back from a one year absence, we have added two awesome facilities at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, July 8th and the most prestigious late model track, Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday, July 23rd. PRP is the annual host of the $100,000 to win dirt track world championship. Both new additions are top notch facilities and I STILL visit them prior to a BOSS show to cover everything from safety, to scoring, to push trucks.

See you all at the tracks VERY soon!

B.O.S.S. isn't the only series to do the above things, but that whole statement in general (from the series founder / owner / operator himself), along with the mindset and behind the scenes work that goes with it- is why drivers and fans both love this series... Very easy thing to spot when someone gets it right- hard to do!

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

If you have a weather app that you can zoom in & out with you can see the place pretty good. Roofs on the buildings look fairly new & the track itself looks like it has long straights.

jjones do you come in from the wooded side ? Indiana 44 or Snake hill Rd..

jjones752 1/14/16 7:47 PM

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

Off of 44. I don't think there's really a road off of Snake Hill; at least it was gated off and nobody used it the nights I was there. The access off of 44 is pretty steep, and seems twistier (if that's a word) than the aerial shot makes it look, although that may be exaggerated by the slope. If I had hit the Powerball last night ;) the first thing I'd have done is grade a new roadway that took a more gradual climb, and do something to the track entrance and exit ramps to make them less severe. The buildings and main stand are really nice but nothing looks like it was completely finished out. And you're right, the track itself is pretty cool (other than the rocks), nice shape, fairly long straights and a lot of banking; probably the steepest banking I've driven on.
It's like a diamond in the rough, in my opinion, just needs a few more touches to make it a pretty spectacular race track.

Thanks. The only bad thing is it's on a Friday & unless I could get off early I'd be there about race time. Looking forward to it though.

Re: Mo Vaughn Transport / BOSS Schedule Release

jones752 everything you said is spot on. when you don't own the facility there's only so much you can do. bill wagner and his clan did a great job with what the had to work with. they are good people and wish they could have made it. all I know is since we raced weekly there in the mid 1980's they have went through a lot of people trying to run the place. dating back to the 70's the sprints have always put on a good show there, on the other hand the late model shows suck. that's why there's no support. Aaron looking forward to seeing you again...:6:
