Midwest Midget Series
The Midwest Midget Series will be running as a non sanctioned regional midget series for the 2016 season. Our main focus is to attract the smaller budget teams and allow a mix of cars around the Indiana who can't compete at the National level midget races.
Rules will be simple just run what you bring. The following car types will be allowed to run midgets, lightning sprints and TQs. We are also seeking sponsors including the title sponsor for the series. No sponsors is too big or small. Sponsors will get mentioned by track announcers as well as placed on the Series Facebook and Web Page. Track promoters who would like to have midgets running at their tracks this is a great opportunity for your tracks. For around the same purse for most of your weekly stock car classes you could have us at your track. There will also not be a membership fee for this series. Instead we will be having a $10 pill draw fee at each race. This money will go to run the series and to provide trophies at the awards banquet. The 2016 schedule is being put together and will be published in the next couple of weeks. For additional information please send an email to midwestmidgets@Indy.rr.com or you may send a PM to the series Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Midwest-Mid...02966/?fref=ts Jay Tinder Midwest Midget Series |

Re: Midwest Midget Series
Will there be any restrictions to what the midgets can be? The TQ midgets be much slower than a midget.

Racer Time have changed and TQ have changed also. Now days a TQ is much closer to a midget in both size and components used. It Wouldn't surprise me if somebody didn't take a TQ and install a Suzuki Haybusa in the darned thing, I understand that the same thing might be happening in the Mini Sprint type cars. I believe what Jay is attempting to do is introduce the Montpelier Speedway formula for Midget racing into the D2 or I like to think of it as a "Throw Back Midget Division" where the race car is based on engine size, chassis size and weight, and tire size while leaving many more options open to the racer. Bill,
Your post is very spot on. My goal for the series is allow more options to race midgets. There is a lot of older style midgets that still have a lot of life left in them along with various other midget frame cars using all kinds of motors. Rules will be very simple there is no tire or motor rules simply come and run what you bring. This series is geared for the non national level midget teams to offer then a place to race. https://facebook.com/Midwest-Midgets...urce=typeahead |
I am one of those guys dad is talking about I have a tq but I am mounting an r1 in it and it will be come a lighting sprint I will try to run the d2 stuff with it

Re: Midwest Midget Series
I believe IMRA, which has evolved into a D2 association, began life as a mixture of TQ's and Mini Sprints, adding the stock automotive powerplants later and phasing out the TQ's. I see no reason why a TQ (especially unbound by rules) couldn't be competitive given the right set of circumstances, much the way a Mini Sprint ended up 3rd in points at Montpelier last year.
But, who in their right mind would put a 'busa in a Mini Sprint? Stay tuned...:31: |

Jim At least the Haybusa powered cars would be OK to run in this division. I have been trying to get Jay to have a get to know one another meeting up somewhere around Indy. He is not interested in running against Montpelier just scheduling around their dates. Me I am trying to get an old "410" in our car and working on getting an extra long right rear spline axle so we can run dual right rears like the Micro guys did with the Konig powered did cars a few years ago. As far as the Busa Mini Sprint I don't think it is a doable deed.:3::D No racer in his right mind would attempt to race such an Animal. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Re: Midwest Midget Series
Like Dad stated this series will not run against the Montpilier dates. Most of the races will be on Friday nights with some Saturday nights possible on the off nights for Montpilier. Will also consider maybe a couple Sunday dates if the opportunity comes up.
I am at this time considering an informal type meet and greet type meeting setup at a later date once I have enough information to put something out there to the teams and drivers. If you are interested in running in this series please visit the Midwest Midget Facebook page and send me a PM or send me one on here so I can make sure to invite everyone to the informational meet and greet. It will also help me determine where a good central location for the drivers would be if I know where everyone is coming from. https://www.facebook.com/Midwest-Mid...homepage_panel |

The Midwest Midget Series will be basically using the same rules package being used at Montpilier Speedway. There is a couple of added car types which is different from Montpilier. I have included the Kenyon Midgets and TQs with the Lightning Sprints. Rules are listed below.
Midgets Appearance All cars shall appear and fit the guidelines of a “traditional” midget Weight Minimum Weight – 1,050 Pounds (Including Driver) – Cars powered by Fontana, Esslinger, Stanton, Gaerte, and other purpose built engines are legal and will fall under this guideline. Midgets Powered By Spec Engines, Honda/Ford Focus, Volkswagen, Entirely Stock Production Block and Head, Chevy II, etc… – No Minimum Weight Tires Open Tire Rule (Compound and Brand) ALL 4 Corners.A maximum 10″ width right rear rim may be used. A maximum 12″ width tire may be mounted to the 10″ rim. Use of only 1 right rear for entire race event (heat race and all features) unless approved by race official to be flat or a potential safety hazard. If a replacement is required, the replacement tire must be the same compound and brand as the tire being approved for removal. All tires will be marked following hot laps. Lightning Sprints, Kenyon Midgets and TQs Appearance All cars shall appear as a “traditional” midget Engine/Drive Train All Lightning Sprints (Non Wing), Kenyon Midgets and TQs are eligible to compete. Cars falling under these rules will be motorcycle engine powered and may be chain driven or utilize a traditional driveline and quick-change rear end. All cars under caution and restarts shall maintain an idle speed as great as the full production midget. Cars that fail to do this will be sent to the tail. Weight No Minimum Weight Tires Open Tire Brand/Compound ALL 4 corners with a maximum 12″ width right rear wheel rim. |
Re: Midwest Midget Series
I like it!

Not to start the down turn of this post, but any thoughts about a couple of open pavement shows? Between Anderson, speedrome, new Paris, south bend, and Angola there is some good possibilities for short tracks.

Nick,
I am open to a separate pavement division if there is enough interest out there. This would have to be a different division because I know not everyone wants to run pavement. |
