Napcar works
Today I managed watching a whole 10 laps I think , and woke up 2 hours later. Thinking what a great nap, feeling good. Thanks Napcar. How someone can call that exciting I'll never know. Guess they have never seen a dirt race. :D

Re: Napcar works
Jim, you seem like a decent fella.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Please, enough already. We get it, you don't like NASCAR, it's not exciting to you. But let me remind you, that's the only place for our guys that want to advance in the sport, to go. NASCAR teams, for the most part, hire our guys on their ability and not a bag of money. Chris Bell is a prime example of that. Indycar doesn't want our guys, doesn't want people like the ones on this board in their stands. They've as much said so. So I'm reluctant to bash NASCAR too much. I take into consideration his career in NASCAR allowed Tony to buy Eldora and run several dirt track teams. |
Jim, you should have hung around! There was lots of action and seeing Jeff Gordon win really was a treat!

Should Kenseth be suspended a race?

Logano should have known that was coming. He kind of chopped down on Kenseth and didn't need to. It was a bit exciting tho. This chase format does set up a scenario where someone might tAke it too far someday.

Happy for Jeff Gordon. Nice swan song to a long career.

Re: Napcar works
Remember Gordon doing a similar move to Boyer about three years ago :)

The only reason I tune in to nascar is to see where the graduates of the racing we love are running. By and large I think the racing is boring. I am grateful that some of the drivers I enjoyed watching race have been able to cash in,and even more grateful to the ones that then field dirt track teams. Which reminds me, can someone tell chip to hire Keith Kunz to crew chief Larson's car, because the guy they got ain't getting it done ;)

I've never been to a race that started with a green and yellow caution flag.

Re: Napcar works
We all have our own favorite type of auto racing. I know I prefer midget, sprint and Silver Crown racing on dirt tracks, but I watch all types. I still love the Indy 500 (it is my favorite event) and I watch Formula One (the event at Austin, TX was particularly exciting) and yesterday F1 ran at Mexico City for the first time in twenty-three years in front of more than a hundred and twenty thousand fans (eighty-five thousand showed up just to watch practice). Wasn't the greatest race ever, as even the announcers said, but it generated a lot of interest worldwide. I watch NASCAR trucks, ARCA stock car, NHRA drag racing, and, well, you name it. If it has wheels and races I will probably watch. Since I don't care for stick and ball sports, I usually wind up watching the NASCAR race of the week. Like Jim, I sometimes get some quality nap time, as not every lap produces spine tingling action. But, to me, it is still more exciting than baseball or golf.
I hear people make negative comments about certain types of cars (midgets hurt my ears, Silver Crown cars are boring, not enough Americans in Indy cars, yadda, yadda, yadda) can't relate to F1, and so on. If we want our sport to prosper and grow, we need to support whatever particular niche we prefer, and refrain from bashing what we don't like. I feel that any auto racing event that is successful, is good for all of the sport! A rising tide lifts all ships! |

I have no problem with people enjoying other types of racing or even other sports in general. I think we might want to consider the following-
1. NASCAR has built itself into what it is not on the quality of its racing, but rather on the marketing machine it has become. An objective observer should be perceptive enough to realize this and judge the quality of the product and realize they are being manipulated by PR and marketing. 2. What really sticks in my craw is that I can turn on the TV and see lawn mower racing, ATV through wooded areas, drag boats, club sports car racing, lumberjacking, etc. just to name a few. Yet non-wing sprint cars and midgets get no exposure. Why? the usual answer is production costs. I don't buy it when you have other so-called niche sports getting this kind of exposure. 3. Such replies using terms like "lame ass" to describe a disagreement of opinion only degrades the site and the usual tone of civil discourse found here. There are other racing discussion groups where this tone is dominant, might be worth a look. |
2 race suspension, seems appropriate .....nascar could have really sent a message and sat him rest of the year
|
I'm sure they won't sell one more ticket after the suspension. But after hearing the approval of the crowd after little Joey got wrecked I bet it will be just one more nail in the coffin of nascar

Re: Napcar works
I remember some periods when sprint car racing was popular on TV and that was ESPN's Thursday Night Thunder, plus special events they covered. The other was TNN covered some sprint car racing for a while.
ABC wide world of sports used to cover USAC events at times like the Tony Hulman Classic and DuQuoin. I guess I am like Ronmil, a race is a race. They are all good. I remember when I was a young kid and would see a 32 ford coupe jalopy with a number painted on the side on an open trailer going down the road in front of our house to the local race track. Nothing was more exciting. |
Re: Napcar works
For what it is worth, my $.02.
I love my short track racing. One of the few things Facebook is good for is it gives you a steady diet of the old Kurtis-Kraft midgets and Dreyer Sprint cars all the way up to the modern cars. I love it. On other websites they say I’m behind the times because they think the cars a low tech but I would like to see their ultra high tech equipment pull a wheelie off of turn 4 at gas city while they are going for the win on the last lap. Indy Cars, their problems are many and I won’t go into that except for a couple of points. Their best race in 2015 is at a track that instead of promoting the heck out of the 2016 event they drop the race completely off the schedule. I don’t get it. Their 2016 schedule; one more street race in Boston (which is already in a little trouble right now coming to fruition) and just 5 ovals for the year. I’ll withhold comment on that. NASCAR. I haven’t watched a Cup race since August. They are a victim of my hectic schedule right now plus they sometimes go up against a Red hot Cincinnati Bengals on Sundays. My only gripe, drop the chase. As for the drivers; there isn’t wrong with any of them that a couple of minutes behind the trailer of post-race “attitude adjustment” couldn’t cure. F1: Only watched two races all year and I did enjoy them. I even enjoyed them on a street circuit (Monaco). If you are going to watch rear engine formula cars on a road course, go with them. They are the best in the business. It’s all good but it seems some are ‘gooder’ than others. |
