No Chuck, it's finally been turned around, it's gonna cost you more money to watch, and the guys and gals putting on the show less, so they can afford to go more, don't ya see, it's payback time! Don't worry, you'll get used to it! :5::5::5::6:Bob

Re: Hows this going to work? Weekly 5g to win 700start
Not sure how anybody who supports the owners and drivers of sprint car racing can see anything wrong with this if it comes to fruition. I am not sure what the weekly fanbase is for Huset's but if anybody has been paying attention this year there seems to be a real uptick in the crowds at the Midwest Wing races and my guess is that with the tradition of huset's and the lack of any real compitition in the area for Sprint Cars (a few teams make the 5 hour tow to Knoxville on Saturday nights) That this has the making of a big BIG deal for Sprint Car Racing. Along with this there was a rumor floating around that there would be a high paying 3 day 50Kto win show following 2016 Knoxville with one night being non-wing and a 25K bonus to a driver who could win both with and with out the wing.
There seems to be a lot of $$ floating around the SD region and I for one am happy to see it floating towards Sprint Car Racing. |
Re: Hows this going to work? Weekly 5g to win 700start
I didn't say anything was wrong with it, Just if it will work?
Knoxvilles stated a few times that it looses on every show except the nationals Don't know. I know there's been a fracking boon and Ethanol out there, but with the bottom dropping out of oil, will that last as well? Just wondering. |
Re: Hows this going to work? Weekly 5g to win 700start
I heard they are moving to Saturdays and will compete directly with Knoxville, thus the purse changes to try to compete for cars.

Agreed bigger payouts are welcomed. I saw the 250k rock and roll nationals was to be the week after the Knoxville nationals. Big name Rock concert on Wednesday, wing show Thursday, non wing show on Friday and each running for 50k to win on Saturday and the 25 k bonus Tim talked about. Regular Saturday shows with 410's and 360's on Sundays both with enhanced payouts. Wish this track wasn't six hours away sounds awesome if it happens.

Rock and Roll Nationals? Never heard about it. Is it this year or in the works for next year & what track?

I was just asking a question, Maybe the dudes super rich and a 50k purse isn't going to hurt him much every week, Maybe he's got a ton of sponsorship. IDK.

I read an article about the new owner. He has an interesting story. He only dreams big. While he has had success, he has also missed the mark on a couple of businesses.
The concept of turning a race track into a concert venue has been tried numerous times, and I don't ever remember great success with it. I also think booking two nights of racing a week at one track is ambitious. Another idea that has not traditionally worked. Perhaps he is a better businessman than most, only time will tell. |

Two things that helped grow the Chili Bowl were no competing events going against it and people looking to escape "cabin fever" in the heart of winter. Maybe Jack Nicholson wouldn't have gone nuts in "The Shining" if he'd had the Chili Bowl to hit.

He was just asking a question? I see the backtrack. Thank you Tim Clauson for speaking up!

Re: Hows this going to work? Weekly 5g to win 700start
I didn't backtrack at all. I shared a video of the overall plans of this Badlands deal, There is clearly some backing.
My question was, These are the kinda purses that tracks around here hold two or three times a year and charge 30 bucks at the front gate for. Will a track support it every week in fans? I also pointed out that its been stated Knoxville loses on everything but the nationals. Now weather they've overcome that, I also don't know. |
There is nothing wrong in wondering how this is going to work. According to a quick web search the Sioux Falls metro area has a population of 250,000. The whole Badlands brand is going to be difficult to support with this population base.
Honestly, how many people have Sioux Falls at the top of their bucket list? |
Re: Hows this going to work? Weekly 5g to win 700start
For a single big event, they should do ok pulling fans from the surrounding area. Minneapolis, Fargo, Des Moines, Sioux City and Omaha are all less than 4 hours away. Drawing a crowd to support the weekly purse they are discussing seems like a tall order. I wish him good luck.:6:

How about $700.00 to start, and $700.00 to win, isn't that what everyone wants? Bob

And all participants receive a trophy.

What will be interesting to watch is if this big deal doesn't turn out as planned will there be any racing at all after the fallout?

Re: Hows this going to work? Weekly 5g to win 700start
I think the track will probably be a tax right off for the first couple of years, so making money may not be the priority. I still think the pie in that area is not that big, and I don't see Knoxville going under. Time will tell.
