Belleville & Powri

Anyone know why Powri scheduled against Belleville this year? Thought they tried to work with eachother.

Hkamp1982 7/30/15 8:29 AM

I heard and this is only what I heard, so it may not be 100% true, but I was told powri wants to be the biggest sanction around so they wanted to go head to head against usac. Like I said this could be completely false but it makes sense.

Clydesdale 7/30/15 9:15 AM

The better question is, why would Haubstadt want to do that and schedule against USAC, when USAC races there 3 times a year. Especially Haubstaft doesn't get 25 sprint cars anymore unless they go-sanction with USAC. Also, there's POWRi at Haubstadt on 4Crown weekend. If I was USAC I'd be questioning this a little bit.

Fans loose once again.

How many cars do you think are skipping Belleville to run Haubstadt? USAC is in Kansas so Haubstadt shouldn't run a powri show in Indiana,I guess all cars without the budget to tow to Kansas shouldn't race Saturday night!

The Arnie Knepper Memorial is scheduled for this coming Sunday at Little Belleville.

I applaud anyone who brings midget racing to Indiana...we should be thankful for Tommy Helfrich & Power I.
It's 551 miles between Belleville Ks and Haubstadt In. I don't see Tommy running midgets against Belleville and USAC as a crime. Many don't have the big budgets to run USAC or Big Belleville.
Placerville California is running BCRA midgets Aug 1 ....should we shun them to?
Last I checked this is America, you have the freedom to load up your race car and go to any track you wish. I'm glad we have options. USAC is great but I'd hate for everyone to close their doors cause there is a USAC show somewhere. JMO

Re: Belleville & Powri

Belleville is a big track and probably most of the cars going to Haubstabt would never go to Belleville so they would be setting at home this weekend if it weren't for PowerI.

Clydesdale 7/30/15 4:32 PM

With midget racing struggling, why wouldn't people want to encourage anybody who can to go out and enjoy the event? To try and get Belleville to the event it once was? There's 3 or 4 guys I'm sure will be at Haubstadt that could run up front at the USAC event if there wasn't a conflict.. Which is a lot given what the car counts are for both series. The point about Haubstadt is, they have 3 USAC sanctioned events, and probably shouldn't schedule midgets against one of USAC's biggest midget races of the year, it's the principle. And on top of that, they schedule against 4Crown, which is another big event USAC has. I'm all about getting midget races in Indiana, but I'm sure there's some other dates they could've worked out if they wanted midget races, instead of scheduling against one another. In the end, it comes down to diluting the car counts as a whole for both groups, meaning the fans lose yet again.. Especially when a lot of the top drivers/ car owners run both series.

I don't think this will be that big of a deal. I remember when POWRi blatantly scheduled against the Gold Crown a couple of years ago. Since then I think things have been better, but this for sure, does not help grow the sport.

How many of you are actually going to Belleville?

You keep harping about the 3 USAC races Haubstadt runs If you look all 3 are sprint car races not midget races. How maney midgets did USAC get to run Belleville last year 13 14 seems theres a lot of cars that didn't go west. Some of the best shows I have seen have had 20 cars and it was a great race. You don't have to have 50 cars in every class. I'll stick with Haubstadt & P0wrI :8:

I wish. Been on my bucket list since the 80's.

illinisprintfan 7/30/15 5:43 PM

What is the magical number of miles between racetracks before it is no longer considered scheduling against? According to Google maps Belleville is 611 miles from Haubstadt. Teams from St Louis would be traveling 450 miles and teams from Indianapolis would be travelling 650 miles to get to Belleville. Not every team has the budget or desire to travel that far.

Haubstadt is a big track by Powri standards..................
No insult meant, Just stating whats been put out there over and over.

Clydesdale 7/30/15 6:38 PM

I understand those races at Haubstadt are sprint car races, but my point was that USAC and Haubstadt are business partners, and work together. I think that should earn a little bit of consideration when it comes to big events getting put on. And not only did the conflict happen once, but two times(4crown nationals).

So since TSS and Usac are business partners, TSS should tell PowerI No thanks we have USAC races. TSS tried bringing back the Hut 100 a USAC race and couple of times barely had enough cars to have the 33 starters and only did so cuz bout half the field was PowerI cars and how maney PowerI guys do you think are going to go as far as Eldora (4 crown) I think about as many as are going to Kanas, If I worried about car counts, sactions and rainouts I'd missed a hell of a lot of races :6:

wildman92 7/30/15 8:46 PM

I'm going to TSS and will see a darn good show. 🏁👍🏻

Absolutely they should have POWRi races, that's not what the thread started out about. Only about why POWRi scheduled against the Belleville Nats.

Charles Nungester 7/30/15 9:19 PM

Re: Belleville & Powri

Well Belleville has about 31. Coons, Darland, Rico, Thorson. Robert Bell, Hines to name a few :)

flagboy55 7/30/15 11:21 PM

If there were no powri race, there would be no conflict, as I would think a few contenders that run for points in powri would then go to Belleville instead of tss. The 2 sanctions need to work better together imo.

Re: Belleville & Powri

So which is it Clydesdale? First you say TSS scheduled against USAC, later it's POWRI that scheduled against USAC. I bet POWRI was going to run Sat. night somewhere if TSS didn't want them. 5,000 midgets show up at the Chili Bowl so there are plenty of them around if the owners want to race.

Re: Belleville & Powri

if this helps the debate any these are the only eight names at Belleville that I find on the current powri points list.
Christopher Bell - Thorson -Daum - KThomas - Abreu - Bayston -TThomas -Gehrke
