Indiana Midget Week feed?
 

I apologize if this question has been asked somewhere else. Anyone know if there will be any live feed of the IMW events?

Why by no means of professional, I'm sure someone will have a periscope feed of each race

Which should be completely outlawed. As in finding whoever is doing it and eject them from the grounds. I don't mind the pre race stuff. But you're really kinda screwing over the promoters by offering a way to watch the races for free while sitting at home.

I get your point, but people stay at home because they can read live updates too. Maybe tracks should throw people out for that also. I'd rather see tracks embrace ways to build fan interest and use technology to reach the fans. I'm sure there are ways for tracks to use it to make more money rather than take a hard stance against it. We want younger fans, and technology is a huge part of getting them.

The only reason I am wondering is because I would gladly pay to watch some of the shows live this week. I live in Wisconsin, and am on call for work this week/weekend. Otherwise I would do everything in my power to be there in person

People would rather stay home and read Twitter updates than be at the track? You're all nuts. I drove 800+ miles Fri-Mon to see Williams Grove, Port Royal, and Susquehanna.

Seriously?? As if watching grainy footage on a 3 inch screen is any subsitute for the real thing.... i can guarantee that i will never skip going to a race in favor of watching someone else's shaky point of view.... especially when that race is over 500 miles away from home and. I save my vacation days for sprint week...

I've never missed a race because it was streamed pay or free. In fact I've bought several streams such as Oval Nationals. Canyon, Fl. even Bellville.

Let's be honest I enjoyed the ones who did it for the eastern storm, as I couldn't go, but nothing compares to being there in person. Definitely not great quality you couldn't really see much, I had race monitor up also so I could see who was actually in each position. It is good for people who can't be there but I highly doubt it will keep people from actually attending a race. Periscope is good for fan interaction, but by no means a reason for anyone to avoid going in person.

I get your points. But you know...there's some promoters out there who have that mindset where anything that might hurt the front gate...

I plan on doing pre race periscope feeds from Brownstown tomorrow, Putnamville Thursday and Bloomington Friday. With post race victory lane activities as well.

Its all good about the sport we all love and we all wish that we can hit all the great racing events that we can but with various situation all race fans can't hit them all and enjoy the updates from the crew that keeps us racing fans loving the sport we all love. Thanks for all the great things that people post live from the track and have fun for some great racing this indiana midget week.

The way I see it is that this app is all over the world and can help attract new fans. Gives people that have never been to a race a little teaser, seen a bunch of people commenting asking what they were watching. If anything I think promoters should encourage this social media frenzy to help attract new fans and increase the front gate. Embrace new technology don't try to fight it and hopefully this new idea does just that for this sport.

Well in that case maybe they should ban race monitor to you can set at home and watch live timing and scoring are you serious nobody's going to stay at home to watch a race on periscope you can barely tell which cars are are running where unless a person periscopeing tells you who's leading running first second and third

Again. I was just saying what some promoters might think. You know how they are with losing money and whatnot. You can't ban anyone from using their phone at the track

Personally my sponsors don't come to our races becuase they live on the other side of the country. Many of my followers and fans only come to one or 2 a year but still support my sponsors and my team. Social media like Periscope is huge to help them feel like they are part of the action they help fund. There are many causes and effects to any action Chris. Narrow minded people will be the death of it.


Here is something to think about.... How many of those races are you paying to get into? How many races do you pay to see in a season? How many "media" members will be at IMW on a free credential yet make a profit? How many photographers ask permission to take photos of the cars that they sell for profit? Where are our royalties from the sales? Why do I have to pay to sell my merchandise when they get in for free? Etc etc...

I pay to get in anywhere except Bloomington and Brownstown.

The racers pay to get in EVERYWHERE... Maybe the "promotors" need to remember without the racers all they have is a facility. It's 2015... Either use the tools available to your advantage or watch your product fade away. Big time racing is only big time becuase they were start enough to use their resources for them and get in front a larger audience. In our little corner of the sport Fans pay tracks. Tracks pay series. Series pay racers. The formula isn't very profitable for anyone until we get a wider fan base and start bringing in their new money.

Congrats, this is the post that finally made me decide to join this forum after several years of lurking. I am a media photographer at the races I go to. However, I am not there to profit. I am there to record the action the best that I can. There are a lot of times I will give photos to various drivers or just burn a photo cd for them. I'm simply not out there to go around peddling photos. I don't have the time. I know it yanks my crank that there are photographers out there that do nothing more than post photos on their own website to sell after getting in free at the track. These are the ones that should pay.

BTW, a photographer would not have to ask permission to shoot your car in action because you are at a public event as long as they are just shooting it as part of a report on the event in a newspaper or magazine. It could get touchier if it's used as an advertising campaign. You may have a case then.

spot1- Thank you. People like you are what helps this sport continue to have a heart beat and hopefully grow. There are so many out there that just flat out don't get it.

The Indiana track promoters and owners are so ass backwards on this pay per view live stream issue its not even funny...

If someone is going to stay home and pay money to watch a feed rather then go to the races, they weren't serious about going anyway.

What's comical to me is that what about all the other race fans in other states that would love to watch the great racing you have in Indiana, but can't because having a live feed will "hurt the gate." Thankfully we have a service like Sean Buckley's JackSlash website that allows me to watch the racing that goes on in Indy.

I wish the owners/promoters would realize that if you have life streams in generates a social media buzz for your track and the race. That's what promoting should be about, generating a buzz. Just a shame this isn't realized by the powers that be.

If you want an example, the first night of the POWRi midget week at Quincy was offered for 14.95 I believe, (and actually shown for free after technical difficulties) track was still packed with race fans. And all of us from other states had the capability to watch and then Tweet/Facebook, Etc and talk about the race.

Perris Auto Speedway in California used to do PPV on all their weekly shows. They had a 100 mile blackout for those buying the feed based off their zip code associated with the credit card. I watched almost every weekend available from Missouri. I'm not sure where the money went but I assume the promotor got a piece of the action. Sure wish more tracks and series would embrace technology and make a buck off of it. The future is now.

It seems like every time they have their races live all I read here is that it sucked, didn't work, waste of my money, etc. Maybe at this time they would rather offer a service that they know works.

It has got to be easier offering a live stream at at the same track week after week than a different track every night where you have to pack up your equipment after the race, haul it to the next track, set it up, test it, shoot/stream it, pack it up & do it all over again.

But what do I know, I don't pay to get into the races either.

Heres the answer point blank and don't get me wrong. I love USAC's format and racing period.

IMHO USAC is quite content to stay in their own little world with three people making any real money and never growing it beyond the little notch it still holds onto that was carved out long ago by people no longer there.

Powri/WoO/NSL. Next day they either have a big huge neat highlight video if not the complete race on the web and several media/marketing services also showing the action. Live timing, scoring and sometimes audio are offered free on thier sites or through a media service like Dirtvision NIGHT OF THE RACE.

It's three days later and I think I seen one highlight on the three eastern storm shows.

USAC had teams and sponsorhips coming to it between 99-2008. What happened? They're all gone, Two or three teams that often had two or more cars in multiple divisions are gone. Free streaming of some shows. GONE!

WTH? if they could find a way to split a streams revinue its still like a promoter selling a chicken basket and drink they'd of never gotten. USAC would still get its sponsors names and drivers mentioned to people not attending etc.

I just don't get it. Of course Im not the one knocking on doors etc to make things happen. As I said on the Eastern Storm thread. It's all difficult. Trying to get tracks to run their non regular night etc. I get that. Just sometimes it seems nothing is getting done and as long as the bank account is in the black. Nothing will be.

I know one thing, If you can't grow it and get some $$ in the racers and teams pocket. There won't be anything left soon. Those 20grand travel weeks don't pay for themselves unless your Robert Ballou :)

To cover the USAC media point for the last couple of years in mills time and now loudpedal I think pretty much every race has been up the next day and they usually release a highlight reel also. Loudpedal.TV is $10 a month and well worth it if you ask me, get to see the top 3 qualifying runs, all the heats, the b and the feature. You can't really beat that for every national USAC race.

This isn't a USAC issue, it's an Indiana track/promoters issue... USAC had all the winter/Florida races streamed... So like I said, USAC is not the issue!

I can't make it to most of imw due to my work schedule. I'm going to try to watch any feed I can find rather it be periscope, a tracks feed, or a USAC feed. If they want to charge for a good feed I'll pay for it. If they think people will stay home they are crazy. I sure would think getting an extra 20-30 dollars for everyone in the country that can't make it to the races would be better than nothing at all... Maybe I'm wrong.

usac and the tracks are not making any $ off me for midget week this year but if it were offered as a live stream theyd be getting $100 ($20/night) and im sure im not the only one stuck in wing country that would purchase a night or 2

The race monitor app has audio stream of the race. Should I be kicked out of my house for listening to it instead of going to the race? Trust me, hearing a bunch of "noise" is hardly replacement for being there.

It's an option on the yearly subscription of the app.. I think it's 4.95 a year?? Dillion Welch is the best in the business when it comes to audio. He's great.

I pay the for upgrade so I think I have the subscription. Does the audio come on when you see live timing or do you have to do something to activate it?

After I selected this race there's a "live audio" in the lower left hand corner. Just tap on that.

I subscribed but see no audio button.. is this an iPhone thing?

Was hoping to get updates from gas city tonight. I only have 5 days of vacation and have 3 booked for isw and 2 for smackdown and try to hit all the weekend local shows. See you guys at the burg Saturday and kokomo Sunday. Thanks
