Re: Hamilton no longer with USAC?
Only through gossip

Most likely a situation where a racer had some good ideas but Kevin was worried it might cost a few dollars and with him scheduled to make a cool 1/2 million this year he has to be careful giving anything back to the racers. To save Brent the time,:39: of defending his drinking buddy YES, I'm beating a dead horse:deadhorse:.... But sometimes I get bored!! And I just love to use those little images at the bottom :10: :5::5: :10:

Then, hire someone that cares about the sport. He is absolutely a cancer for the USAC organization. He cares about off road trucks and snowmobile racing more than Sprints, Midgets or Silver Crown. GET HIM OUTTA THERE! |

USAC has a disease and they need to bring in some different doctors to get the cure. This sanction is dieing on it's own vine and the people with the group now are to dumb to see it. :47:

Re: Hamilton no longer with USAC?
Since Hamilton showed up, I got a sense that he was trying to ram "wings" down usac's throat.
Years ago, some west coast usac guy named gary sokola came to Indiana to run the sprint car division. He, immediately, started talking about changing everything to "wings". One night at Eldora, sokola was in the mic booth telling the crowd that the usac sprints would be going to "wings" and got booed out of the place. Earl had to get on the mic to calm the crowd and said that he would be the guy who decided if usac ran "wings" not gary sokola. The crowd cheered Earl and sokola wasn't around long. I think he died of a heart attack a few weeks later. ...usac never went to wings. Certainly, usac has gone purty far down the drain since kevin miller has been there but, possibly, Hamilton's attempt to push his own little league "wing" sprint car club into usac may not have been going over very well. |
You got a "sense" huh , but NO facts???? I think Davey knows what USAC stands for & he actually lived it! He cut his teeth in a non winged car & was trying to keep the wheels turning. It has nothing to do with what some guy said on the PA at Eldora years ago.

Re: Hamilton no longer with USAC?
BTW USAC ran wings for five years on promoters choice.

Hamilton has his own little "wing" sprint car club. This would, at least, be a conflict of interest with his usac job and a "toe in the door" to infiltrate his "wing" agenda into usac. ........ For the past many years, Hamilton has been associated with "wing" super modifieds and "wing" indy cars so to call him a non wing guy is quite a stretch. I don't know Hamilton personally... I'm sure he is a swell fellow. |

Things that make you go Hmmm? Lets imagine that someone had made a deal with like... Jonathan Byrd to sponsor Indianan Midget Week? What if the idea was to have a huge dinner and party to kick off the week? What if this deal was signed, sealed , and delivered? What if ...lets say someone like DH put this deal (and a few others) together? What if Kevin's response was "whats in it for USAC (aka...how can I get my hands on more money?)" What if it was one of several deals with the racers best interest in mind that put no money in the "Detriot Retirement Fund"? Maybe someone had the stones to say ...... just wondering ...what if???

This should absolutely be the last straw for Kevin Miller.
I hate to say this, but if he's not ousted, I hope USAC dies. It's a shame! Such a rich tradition. Used to be the road to Indy. Now, it's a flock of thieves. The racers will still race. No one we care about will be hurt. Someone will sanction the cars we own, know and love. Maybe Bob Sargent and Andy could team up and continue a good thing going in Silver Crown. Andy as far as I'm concerned is the only thing they have going for them. Such a shame! |

I worked on usac sprint cars from 1963 through 1979. When they started running usac sprint cars on quarter mile midget tracks, I was done with it. I never really remembered that they sunk so low as running wings. How sad

Re: Hamilton no longer with USAC?
I attended a winged USAC race at the Jackson VFW Speedway in Jackson, MN. Can't recall the exact year, but was early to mid 80's.

Scamilton's run was short lived.

Re: Hamilton no longer with USAC?
1987 USAC National Winged races
Rick Unger 1987 Wing Eldora USAC opener two other shows mid summer and Four Crown were NW KC June 20 KC raceway Aug 29 Paragon, Butler. Races were also scheduled for Williams Grove and Lincoln Winged. 88 Brad Doty Paragon and Findlay it also mentions Butler won wing, non wing and pavement. Jeff Gordon won his first USAC race at Florence an it was winged. I was there for this one as I was crewing for a couple Bombers and helped Staab a little here and there. Sorry, I can't go through 50 pages in a couple hours but these were all USAC National Sprint Winged Shows. USAC also sanctioned Winged Supermods in the 80s. You do know that the Wings he was pushing was a totally separate series than USAC National Sprint Cars? Its a series already existing that USAC picked up the sanction. Except for the Little 500 NW Pavement Sprints have been dead for the most part for about five years in USAC. The last one I remember was USAC at winchester paired with a Must See show of Winged sprints. |
