Ballou or Short ?

I read all the Bloomington chatter on Brady. Yes,he's good at the local tracks. But does it compare to Roberts Usac season so far.

Re: Ballou or Short ?

compare who finished 2nd -10th at each event

The Scientist 6/7/15 9:54 PM

Ballou because Short doesn't have any competition where he races and Ballou is beating the best in the country.

flagboy55 6/7/15 9:57 PM

All due respect to Brady, but this question is a no brainer. Robert is the man right now!

When you put them on the same track, it's usually a damn good race. Probably the best rivalry we have going around here, right now. Robert's accomplished more this year, though.

Seriously, How long have some of you people been watching sprint car racing? :)

Brady can compete with about anyone on any track now, He did have a hole in his swing at a couple tracks for awhile but has buttoned them up, He did campaign a full year on USAC with the 2b Lucas car and won several

Ballou, He used to tear up at the tacky tracks but wasn't worth a darn on something that slicked up. He's improved on that a ton, Has the most big race wins for the last year and at some places is hard to beat.

They've both been in sprints awhile. Brady a bit longer. I wouldn't bet against either.

Remember, There is more than just a driver in a car/team and with the way things are changing year to year with just little things or shocks and adjustments. It can make the difference in hero or zero.

Short term. Ballou/Bye
Long Term. Short/Short/Pottroff.

mad scientist maybe you should look at the kiss and mscs results this year before making a statement like that.. i think you will find that most of them were filled with some of the greatest racers around the country, including most usac drivers, which provided for some excitement for the fans im sure.. i dont know if there is a best but there are alot of great ones out there for sure.:22:

hupp#9 6/8/15 12:52 PM

They are both on top of their game and where is tmez in the deal I beleive he's just as hot or hotter than them right now he just beat Robert at lps a couple weeks ago I believe.. And wonder what tmez average finish is right now

Re: Ballou or Short ?

IMHO this is a dumbass question I love watching them BOTH run :9:

flagboy55 6/8/15 1:06 PM

Listen up folks. The question was this season. All respect given to Mr Short, I'm a big fan, but the question has only one answer, Robert Ballou! He has what, 6 or 7 usac national wins this year? We can brag on kiss and mscs competition all day, but the highest level of non wing sprints is the United States Auto Club. Not to mention races outside of usac he has won this year. Perhaps a better discussion might be, who has a better win percentage, Schatz or Ballou? You only have to watch sprint cars this season to know the answer to the question!

Re: Ballou or Short ?

Ballou and Boespflug are my two favorite drivers, so I am a little biased. Anytime you put a microphone in front of Robert after a race, you never quite know what you are going to get. However listening to the crowd react when Brady wins is pretty fun too. There are quite a few fans who appreciate his skill and success and cheer, and then there are the dip sticks. Booing, yelling out "cheater....traction control!!". When he wins, some in the crowd act like it is pro rasslin'. Bottom line they are both great drivers and if they are at a show and you see them pull onto the track, it raises your expectations of what is getting ready to happen. :31:

Easy answer....they are both better than me.

Thats why I just post on here and not race!

Re: Ballou or Short ?

Both are great drivers but Ballou does win on a national scale and not just in his backyard, so to speak. That has to count for something.

Take up a collection for a match race. $100 per lap. I'll buy the first few laps at TSS. They would probably be game for a 15 lap shootout for $1500. Just sayin...few rules of course....like can only bring out 1 yellow, but not on last few laps.

Easy answer for me for the past 20+ years and will still whoop ya on any given night. Jon Stanbrough. DD.s probably been most consistent for the past ten years USAC wise or not.

Roberts on a tare no doubt. Good for him! I kinda thought we only seen flashes back in 08-09 what he was capable of. Now we're seeing weekly

Every race night there is one guy better then the 20+ other racing that night.

Agree with you on this Chuck. The Darlands, Stanbroughs, Hines, Cottles, Coons, etc. may not win every night but through the years they are more often than not in there at the end, winning, or with a good finish and their equipment is ready to go the next night. Plus, they didn't run over anyone to get there. I put Brady Short in that same category. He has won all over the region but chooses to run closer to home, obviously for his own reasons. He doesn't need to justify his schedule to anyone.
Can't deny Ballou is on a roll such as we haven't seen for a while and I wish him continued success. I see no reason to choose one over the other, but just to enjoy the successes of both.

Exactly....thank you. I don't understand why if you follow usac it's the top of the game...best drivers. We race Robert and Brady if not both, one of them every weekend. There is a lot of talent outside of usac. Until someone pays for my stuff to go to Kansas and Pa, Ca...ect, and rain out with no rain, Il stay in Indiana. Great people great racetracks. It's sad people can't understand that if a car/driver is running points other than usac, they have no talent or there's no competition for Brady. We're in the top 5 in mscs, so we'll keep chasing the 11p till we get one. Don and Brady are good people and have if figured out, as does Robert.

Re: Ballou or Short ?

I have always had such respect for drivers like Gary B, Tom Bigelow, Larry Dickson, Rich Vogler, Sheldon Kinser and others winning in Sprint, Midget and Dirt Champ Cars. I've been watching the next generation, Dave Darland, Jon Stanbrough, Tracy Hines, Jerry Coons win and compete in the USAC classes which now seems like "since Hector was a pup".
So to see Robert Ballou start to run well with these guys repetitvely, really means something in my book.

It's great for Brady Short and the excitement he and all the Indiana sprint drivers have garnered in recent times. People are paying attention, they know you can race, and appreciate it! Keep it up!

I love dirt track racing.

Geez....Brady or Ballou? POWRI or USAC? Bloomington ice cream or Dairy Queen? Can't we just celebrate the best of both worlds and call ourselves lucky to have the best ice cream, er, racing in the U.S.?? 🏁😜🍦

And there we have it from the ice cream Queen :8: lol See ya guys Thursday

I got to chime in one last time. Absolutely no slight to Brady, he's great, I love watching him race, but people, the question was this year who's been better. Those of you trying to suggest that Short, or even t-mez are having a better season are speaking from the heart instead of your head. I counted 16 usac races run this year, and he has won 7, almost 50 percent, from Kansas to New Jersey. To me that's pretty freaking amazing!
