chastaj 5/24/15 9:03 PM

Kyle Cummings wins first heat.
Jeff Bland jr. Wins second heat.

illinisprintfan 5/24/15 11:42 PM

What a run by Ballou!!!! Rear to 3rd.

Rpracing1 5/24/15 11:46 PM

Wow what a Feature!!!!! Short over Cummins in a photo finish!!!Ballou screams from last to third!!! Can't get much better than this!!!

wildman92 5/24/15 11:47 PM

Wow. What a race. Brady Short by a hair over Kyle Cummins. Ballou made quite the charge from the rear to finish 3rd.

MOORESVILLETRUCKER 5/25/15 12:40 AM

Ballou slams his way from last to 3rd is more appropriate

First timer at a KISS race?

bmemmer 5/25/15 1:19 AM

I live 3 miles from the track. I just don't get the crew sometimes. Tonight we have 20 cars and we only run 2 heats which for the guys who started in the back don't really have a chance at a good finish with 10 cars on the track. So the crew wants to run a fast program ok I get that. But for the usac race they run a bmain with 24 cars?! I dunno just don't understand. I'm sure there is more to it. Anyway way to go Tommy and crew tonight for getting in the show after it rained for about 20 minutes. A fantastic race through out the field and Awesome finsh!

bmemmer 5/25/15 1:30 AM

Just to add a little more. I could see running 2 heats if it was a normal mscs race with passing point but since it wasn't why not run two heats of 7 and one of 6. Anybody have any answers? I'm just curious. Racing was great no matter how many heats were ran I'm just trying to understand better.

3Cfan 5/25/15 2:00 AM

What a great race tonight. Congrats to B Short on the win. Sure thought Cummins was going to pull that pass off coming off of four. That was the fastest I'd seen the 3R this season. Typical Ballou entertainment as he diced through the field. I am curious to know what Chase Stockon was so upset about with Cummins after their heat race. Looked like clean racing and passing to me.

Re: Tss

I think farmers have a special relationship with the weather. A love/hate relationship might be a better way to put it. Either too much or not enough precipitation can come along and completely wipe out their product or they can just get enough and it will enable them to get a yield that is beyond compare. Either way, they know how to deal with whatever mother nature hands them probably better than anybody else. My experience with this track has always been when it starts raining and you get a decent amount, you're going to get one of two results. Number one is a rainout and nobody likes that. The second is when the rain lets up and Tommy and his crew go to work on the track and start methodically bringing her back to life. On one of those nights, nine times out of ten, when everything is said and done, the stage is set for some real fireworks to happen. Tonight was another one of those nights at Tri-State Speedway. Once they got it revived, the first thing to happen was the continuation of the modified heats. The first one had already been ran, so there were just two left. They were both door to door, from start to finish for the win. You knew this was going to bode well for the sprint A-Main when it was time for it. Well, fast forward to the feature. Things were lined for excitement from the drop of the green. You had Chad Boespflug, Kyle Cummins and Jeff Bland starting up in the front of the field, Chase Stockon a few rows back, Brady Short in the middle and Robert Ballou almost all the way in the back. So there was going to be action throughout, right from the drop of the hat. And that there was. A few laps in Cummins took command and looked really dominant. But a little ways back, Brady Short was starting to pick them off, one by one and was obviously one the move. Ballou passed a few, but was spun on the second lap and had to go to the tail. After that restart, he resumed his march to the front. About five laps in though, he started to smoke and then at one point, his engine caught on fire. It looked like he would be soon be done, but he didn't miss a beat and continued his tear through the field. Up front, Brady had worked his way through the top ten and had assumed the runner up spot. Kyle was going to have company soon, because he was definitely cutting chunks out of the lead on each lap. With somewhere less than ten laps left, he caught Cummins and took the lead and stretched it out some. By this point Ballou had come all the way through the field and was up to fifth or sixth. He had a perfectly executed slider for someone on what seemed like on every lap. Once he reached Jeff Bland, they went at it in what was probably the battle of the race. It went on for several laps and it was a hell of a fight. Up front, Mo gave the "two to go" and it looked like Brady had it covered, but Kyle was starting to close on him. After they took the white flag and came out of turn two Kyle just came screaming down the backstretch and you could just sense that he had something up his sleeve and thought he was still going to win this thing. Brady was up a little higher in some traffic as they came out of four, Kyle dove low and sprinted him to the line. I was sitting right behind the flagstand and when they crossed I didn't know who had won until I heard the announcers screaming that Brady had won by a wheel. What a damn race!!! Almost a photo finish and Ballou had came from the back to finish third!! At one point I saw Robert passing someone with a slider, coming out of turn two, with his engine on fire! That just about sums up what his performance tonight was like. And Brady Short just has a knack for winning races.

I love this place! I would pay full admission and drive 85 miles if all they were going to do was turn Brady, Kyle and Robert loose for 30 laps. In the last year, that's how much excitement these three have provided at this track. I'd just like to see Kyle win one of these. He's forced so much of the action there and has done everything but win one of these thrillers.

Thanks Jerry I read and rethink about the race and still only thing I can say is WOW :8: A big thank you to the track crew for bringing the track back cuz any place else would have called it a rain out :9: Also BIG thank you racers for coming to TSS and putting on such a exciting race :6:

chastaj 5/25/15 9:50 AM

Chase was mad because Cummings slammed into the back of him when coming off the track and that led to all the cars to stall!

The Fanthom 5/25/15 10:37 AM

Yeah, and he got slammed into because he flipped off Kyle going down the backstretch on the cool down lap.

He didn't get flipped off he got a shoulder shrug for jumping the first 2 starts, but they talked after and took care of it so it's over.

NSSN today said Brady ran away with the race. It's hard to trust news reporting these days.

KISS has a set format (number of heats, transfers, etc.) for the number of cars in attendance. It's posted on their website.

Arriving late after attending the Indy 500 and dining at Gray Brothers in Mooresville, my son-in-law and I didn't get a very good parking space, but we lucked out, because as we were approaching the ticket booth, a gentleman approached us and gave us two free admission passes courtesy of J Wilderman Autoplex. We had an enjoyable evening and would have loved to stayed for the entire program as we were interested in seeing the mini-sprint feature, but sprinkles during the modified feature made us think we might be wise to hit the road. We did run into harder rain just down the road, so we made the right decision. Again, thanks to J Wilderman Autoplex. I will certainly shop your vehicles when I am ready to make a purchase.

bmemmer 5/25/15 3:57 PM

Thanks Sandy Lowe for clearing things up! I was a bit biased too as some weekends I have to go into work at 11 and sometimes I have to leave before the feature even is ran. Last night I didn't have to and had nothing to do so wanted to see as many races as I could. 😁

Dude, everyone on the backstretch saw it. I'll not argue on it on here anymore as its just wasting space and taking away from a GREAT RACE. Glad they worked it out as I like to watch both of them run.

Ballou is the best USAC driver in the country

DirtHawk92 5/26/15 5:56 AM

Pretty bold statement there 2nd time poster/ 1st time listener... Yeah he's good but there r 20 guys that run in this area that r just as good on any given night!! Sometimes a lil too aggressive (BTown Fri night push of Cottle over edge) and has tried to talk down other guys after race is over on speaker system(B Short 2x)... That finished above him !!! Sorry when u get beat take it like a man... Yeah we know u raced hard but 3rd isn't 1st.... Yeah he's good but I'm not a fan of arrogance... And I've heard it from the horses mouth....like who u like that's fine.. Y there's tons of drivers with different personalities... Just my opinion....

It's just different personalities in sprint car racing. It's always been that way. The last time Robert talked smack about Brady in victory lane after he had beaten him at TSS, the next week at Putnamville, Brady beat Robert after he had mechanical issues in his heat race, he said in victory lane that had Robert not came over and helped them get the motor issues lined out, there's no way they could have been ready to even come out for the feature. That rivalry has provided some pretty good races around this area, so I hope it keeps going.

Jerry

DirtHawk92 5/26/15 8:14 AM

Jerry... Don't take this the wrong way.. But to be the best u have to beat the best.. So if I'm sitting there and I know B Short or whomever is there & needs help to b in the show... I'm gonna go help em...Isnt that what racers do? Sorry but never heard B Short talk smack to anyone on podium other than joking... My eyes c what they c and my ears hear what they hear... Burton Memorial Friday those 3 guys on podium class acts... Bilbee humble kid(thank mom and dad) Heck even saw Darland give the kid a jokin around hug... But that's just DD.. Yeah I get it different personalities what makes world go round but takes one cocky driver to ruin having a fan of theirs for life... There's Thankful and there's Cocky grown up Babies in this world... Just sayin...

Re: Tss

I think what we see in racing is just a cross section of people who have different personalities, being on display in front of thousands of people. Some folks let their mouth out run their brain, some don't care if it happens, some seem to let their emotions run their lives. Now sometimes people act out of character when the pressure is on. Like for example Friday at Bloomington I saw a driver who pulled into his pit and roll up into his trailer, jump out and start throwing things, screaming the "F" word so most around could hear, all because he lost a transfer spot. Sunday I saw Chase act out of character when he got upset about the start of the heat with Kyle, gave Kyle the finger, then Kyle gave him a bump. These guys are under pressure, they want to win, they don't want to tear up there equipment, and they all need the money to keep their racing operation going, so that's a tremendous amount of pressure. They are aggressive by nature, or they wouldn't be drivers who push themselves and their equipment to the edge for our entertainment. I saw it on display a couple years ago with Kevin Thomas and crew at Kokomo during sprint week. They let their emotions get away from them and they paid a price, financially and with some pain. They apologized and all was well. We can all get emotional, angry, and let the pressure get to us. But what we do after we make a fool of our selves is what really matters, go back make it right, apologize, make up, set the record straight. We all have said and done things out of character. I have twice in my career as a firefighter put on a display of anger, said a few choice words, albeit at a Chief officer. After the incident I went to them, apologized for my show of anger, we worked it out, and all is well to this day.

The question of who the best driver is? They are all good, why did Robert suddenly start winning a lot of races last year? Did he suddenly figure out how to drive? Most of these guys are capable winning on a given night, get the car just right, have a bit of luck, and not make mistakes. Robert is doing well because his car has been pretty good, he has a strong motor, and yes he drives the crap out of it. Same could be said of Brady S, KT, Chase, Kyle, DD, Bacon, etc. Many good drivers today. I watched Logan Jarrett and CJ Leary put on a clinic at L'burg couple months ago, also watched them struggle to make the feature other nights, what? did they forget how to drive?? No they missed the setup, motor wouldn't run, no brakes, poor qualifying effort, drew a bad pill number, made a critical mistake, etc. That's why its called racing, not winning. Its those who have good equipment, drive hard, push themselves, have a bit of luck, and have some natural ability who have had the opportunity to win and taken advantage of it, some many times over...
