mini sprint gear?
I have a gsxr 1000 and last wk was on chip at flag stand.. first time ever it's been up there.. gear was perfect before then.. track had some bite in it.. I'm not sure about changing gears yet.. so was wondering if it does it this wk and I dnt have time to change gear if I shift to 3rd will tht kill it to much or will I b ok? Really kills straight speed on the chip..

Shifting might save your motor. Are you getting that good already or was the track just a lot slicker. Flag stand sounds like - 2 teeth on axle or + one on the counter. OR was the clutch slipping? Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Track had alot of moister in it... he watered it after hot laps and ran it in.. it cooled down and held bite.. didn't do it on hot laps but heat and feature was in it hard.. I was almost full throttle in heat and good bit of feature.. instead of changing gear right away since never been tht way b was going to just shift to 3rd to get thru night but not sure how much gear it would kill.. so how many rpms will it kill? Dnt think was clutch slipping brand new ebc and setup by guy that does it for living..

Ebc there's your first problem

Re: mini sprint gear?
check yr gear chart and compair ratios if u have the quick release sprocket hub there should be plently of time to change the rear sprocket in between races:16:6:

Yea I have quick change think that's my best option.. thx.. 3rd gear dnt appear to b a option lol

It is times like this that makes one wish that they had payed a little closer attention in math class. Had teachers used examples like this in class a few more kids would have payed attention. Remember them proportion problems in math this is a prime example when they can be used in real life experience./ If you are geared 12 to 1 and you are only hitting 11500 rpm at the end of the straight what gear ratio would we need to equal 13000 rpm at the end of the straight. Set up the equation cross multiply and divide. 12.00 = 11500 .....X = 13000 12.00 X 13000 = 156000 156000/11500 = 13.57 to 1 now go to your chart and find a couple of sprockets. We try to gear a little high for the track and adjust down >>>>>easier on motors Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Yea I've had a gear in mind all season just never seemed I needed to change it but over last few wks I noticed it bumping on Rev limiter.. last wk was buried on it.. but speed was way up.. needles to say I need to go up a tooth on motor

Re: mini sprint gear?
counter sprocket "BIG" change
axle sprocket "SMALLER" change 1 tooth on engine is like 2 or 3 on the axle depending on your final ratio. It is all ratios and proportions pretty soon it will be easy>>>you are on the accelerated program right now. By the way Did you read all of Mr Diclelys article on gears? The info is out there.:) Honest Dad himself:6::6: PS changing the sprockets is easy getting the rear in time and square and adjusting chain tension is the real hard and time consuming part of the process. We carry 3 different length chains to the track. When you get up to speed later on why don't you head West and give the MMSA a try you would like it>>>different tracks some of them being the best tracks in the Mid West. |
No I havent.. I would say that axle will be changed first due to time and idk wht it will do tomorrow.. if on chip tom at track I'm going to change axle and then figure out ratio to get front sprocket and axle to tht ratio.. everyone at track seems to run 14-49 and I'm running a 13-49 so I'm a little off.. was thinking I'd try that cuz that's what my bud ran.

Don't Follow Lead:) There are guys out there that could take that 13/49 and win with it! Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Well obviously it's not working for me...lol it prob won't even hit Rev limiter this wk..lol
|
Which GSXR motor do you have?... Are you on gas or methanol?.... What is the track size? 1/4, 3/8, 1/5??? Has the ECU been flashed and engine dyno'd?? Let me know and I can cross it to my gear ratios we run with our GSXR.

We use a tack >>> the object is not to hit the rev limiter we gear a few hundred rpm's lower than that to give us a little margin. Sometimes just changing your on line on the race track can turn an uncompetitive car into a winner. A very competitive guy we race with in the MMSA uses a saying that he got off of Rich Vogler "Slow is Fast":) many many times this is the case. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
I have a bone stock on gas gsxr.. nothing done to computer etc.. track is lil bigger then 1/4.. I have a 13/49 on now.. run in second..
Dad.. yea a tach would b good.. mayb next yr or when I start getting some good finishes just not in budget now.. other thing I forgot was I was running higher then usual.. on cushion where when dryer I stay in middle.. |

14 49 should be good for gsxr on a track that size
|
I looked in my spares and have a 48 47 rear axle gear along with 14 engine so hopefully I can make a change in a good direction..

Re: mini sprint gear?
remember we havent had the rain this week depending on how chris waters the track it may dry out a lot faster with the temp. in the 80's and if the track drys out the track will not b as fast
