OCALA SPRINT TIMETABLE MOVED BACK ONE DAY

“Winter Dirt Games VI” is moving back one day as a result of the cold temperatures and rain moving into Florida today and tomorrow. This week’s AMSOIL USAC Sprint Car National Championship schedule at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Florida now opens with an open practice Thursday night, followed by racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Times remain the same for Friday and Saturday, while warmups on Sunday night will begin at 6 pm.

Defending AMSOIL USAC Sprint Car National Champion Brady Bacon leads the series into the 2015 openers, which will be followed the next week by races Thursday-Saturday (Feb. 26-27-28) at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla.

This week’s races at Ocala will be streamed live on www.TheCushion.com while the East Bay events will be streamed live on Xsan.tv.

I'm in the same boat. Why not just practice before the program starts on Thursday.

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

Nice enough to practice, should be nice enough to race. SUCKS...

redracer75 2/17/15 7:25 PM

Whattttttttt? The hell with practice. Let's race Thursday. Keep the original schedule. We all have schedules to keep, they don't include racing on Sunday night.

quicktime3 2/17/15 7:35 PM

Yeah, everybody expects the track to take a big loss on Thursday fighting cold weather instead of using a make-up date they advertised and probably planned for.

And who's to say they even end up having practice on Thursday for sure? Maybe they just figure they'll let guys practice if it's ready and not make people sit in freezing temps, but if it's not ready they just scrap it and move on to Friday. They have had major track issues before after rains like today.

Makes sense to me...

From Bubba Raceway park website

USAC and Bubba Raceway Park officials have made the decision to move this week’s Season Opening USAC National Sprints racing schedule back one day. Practice will now be on Thursday night from 6pm until 9pm with Racing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night!!! For the Friday and Saturday shows the gates will open at 4pm and hot laps will start at 7pm with qualifying beginning immediately after hot laps. Sundays show will start an hour earlier with the gates opening at 3pm and hot laps starting at 6pm with qualifying beginning immediately after hot laps!!!! The bar will be open at noon on Sunday with drink specials and we will be broadcasting the Daytona 500 live, which starts at 1pm, on our 8 TV’s!!! So come to the track early and watch the race before the RACE!!!!!!

With the heavy rainfall already received today, and more expected overnight and into tomorrow morning, it would likely be impossible to prepare the track properly in time for practice Wednesday night. As this is USAC’s season opening race date, having a full practice session to tune and test new equipment is critical to the racing teams.

The need to have a quality practice session coupled with Thursday’s projected cooler temperatures (High of 48 degrees and low of 26 degrees) were both taken into consideration in making this decision. These cooler temperatures will be no issue for practice but could make for difficult conditions for our fans. Fridays and Saturdays temperature forecasts are very nice with Sundays forecast being perfect with Sunny skies and a high of 80 degrees J which will provide much nicer viewing conditions for fans.

Advance tickets purchased for the Thursday race will be useable for any USAC race at BRP for these three dates and Cushion PPV will also be valid for the make-up date.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and we will see you at the races!!!!!!

I swear to God, it is NOT supposed to RAIN after today. We are in Jacksonville tonight and it rained all day, but it is all supposed to pass.

This rolling it back a day is an odd one.

Hammer down 2/17/15 9:21 PM

It's not like we are at the weekend track and can just drive home on Sunday. They keep this up and they won't get any cars let alone fans. Practice Thursday race Thursday.

Thats the risk you take when you are the one putting on the race. What I was saying is if the track is good enough to practice on they should try to get the race in. Skipped the chili bowl and used that money to come down from Indiana to support usac, my call, my loss. But it wont happen again. If the track is ready ,imo, they should race.If its not, then they should call it and move on with the rain date. Would be a lot easier to take that way. Done with my venting, and by the way Volusia will be running the w.o.o. late models and big block modifieds on Thursday an hour away from Ocala. They havent cancelled yet...

redracer75 2/17/15 9:40 PM

Last years Friday night show was rained out. They did not move to Sunday. My hmo is some teams did not look at the weather in between, and can't get there tomorrow. Too bad.

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

During the evening its supposed to be in the 30's low of 24 do you think a promoter up here would run in that kind of cold? The promoter is trying to avoid losing his butt. I cant really blame him.

addictedtodirt 2/17/15 11:19 PM

Makes sense to me. Best chance for the track to make a buck. I'm sure some of you would tuff out a Thursday show with temps in the 40s. Just not enough to justify the potential loss. I'm betting Sunday sales will top Thursday sales.

Good call Bubba and USAC.

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

Way to go USAC - you failed to control the weather again! Good grief people. :deadhorse:

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

Do you think the promoter factored in he is now running the same day/night as the Daytona 500? I know most of us IOW fans could care less about the 500, but still.... there is that gate draw that he might have had with other fans that he will not have now.

Plan Bs for Wednesday/Thursday:

New Smyrna got rained out tonight. They are running a double show tomorrow (Wednesday). ACT Late Models and the John Blewitt III Memorial Modified race. Thursday, Super Late Models.

Volusia has SDS Big Block Modifieds Wednesday & Thursday, with UMP Late Models Wednesday & WoO Late Models Thursday (as stated before in this thread).

East Bay has ASCS 360 Winged Sprints Thursday.

Make the best of it, guys. We were planning on East Bay all along, for we have some business to take care of in Tampa to boot, but we feel bad for you up at Bubba's for the aforementioned inconvenience..

Hammer down 2/18/15 8:22 AM

We brought down 2 cars, checked weather and got here Monday night to beat the storm. Looks like we will loose 500 tickets.
Maybe they should flip flop and run east bay. We'll do bubbas another time. Maybe......

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

If I were going I would be upset until Friday. That cold weather will keep a lot of locals home probably watching the Daytona twins. Look at Thursday as a rain out. Go to the twins or enjoy practice.

WinglessLovers 2/18/15 12:33 PM

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

Thanks admin. Even though we are down here I don't know if we would have checked before heading up to
Bubba on Thursday. Will alter our plans and head over to East Bay for 360's on Thursday and probably Bubba Friday and Saturday. Heading home on Sunday so that race is out. Thanks again.

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

The temperature at 8pm on Thursday night in Ocala is projected to be 34 degrees. After 10pm, the temps will dip into the 20s. I admire fans who would sit in temperatures like that to watch a sprint car race. That is truly dedication! However, there are not enough people who would brave those temperatures and sit in the stands for 4+ hours. That is pretty much the bottom line for all parties involved.

The practice is happening on Thursday because it is not a day that is dependent on fans buying a ticket and sitting in the stands. Whether it is rain, sleet, snow, or freezing temperatures, weather can mess up plans from time-to-time and that's why this Sunday was planned in advance as a "weather date" in case this type of thing happened.

Whichever show you guys go to this weekend, have fun. It promises to be a great show at Bubba Raceway Park on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. See you there!

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

Probably a good move by all parties. After they lost one night last year and all of the $$$$ plus the thought of more $$$ lost this week it seems like the best solution. If Bubba looses too much money every year he might not be willing to support USAC again next year and USAC won't go to FL for only one race.

I know it is a pain for some from Indiana, but it's mostly the locals that will be putting their butts in the seats and footing the bill down there. The locals need to show up to pay for the show and they may not be as hardy as the Indiana folks are. Remember it is FLORIDA for gods sake, it's not like they live there because the like the cold weather!!

Besides, I bet if you asked the teams and drivers they prefer to have a solid night of practice night to start off the year. And the teams don't care how cold it is, THEY ARE RACERS…:22:

What a beautiful sunny day in ocala Florida

ThrowbackRacingTeam 2/18/15 6:09 PM

Good call. You can't expect to race in those temps and it's awfully nice that they have an extra date to run. They had a rain out last year. People should have planned on staying till Monday. I learned that lesson a long long time ago when traveling a long distance to a multiple night race with a rain date. These rookie fans will get over it.

Re: Usac: Ocala sprint timetable moved back one day

If you come from Indiana where temps have been below zero a few times. 28 is cold but not freezing cold.

If your from Fl thats ten below to those folks.

not sure about you but some of us work for a living and only get week off and have to be back to work on Monday and I am no where near a rookie fan ...I drove down here last Saturday watched world of outlaws at Volusia and to watch usac at bubbas ...but can someone please explain to me why they are not gonna practice tonight? track? temps or? I am setting in motel room in Ocala and its pretty damn nice outside

BrentTFunk 2/19/15 4:40 PM

I'm down here, and although I am disappointed, and it is going to cost me more money, I still think it was the right call. Just for the record, I drove right by Vousia on the way,and did not even consider turning in. For the record, it is cold down here.
