Just out of curiosity can anyone pick out the cars/ drivers in the picture?

Awesome photo! Thank you!
It looks like there are some cars in that field without cages.
Those were the days when racing was dangerous and sex was safe.
:D

Now a days that statement on the 3 line would be considered backwards. :):32:

What type of car is that row 6, inside? It looks more dune buggyish than a sprinter.

Love that place so glad i got to witness it. to bad so many kids will probably never get to see 24 usac sprints coming off of turn 4 taking the green.

Are you sure its 73, If it was 73 Sneva should be there in the rear engine sprint car. The roadster in the later part of the field looks like the car we tried to run in 74

Yes I'm sure and yes I saw that funny thing that looked like a dune buggy on the inside of row 6

Cages were mandatory starting in 1971. Maybe that is Steve Chassey in the Dowker roadster in row six. Jeff Bloom also ran a roadster.

Long shot, but row 6 car could be Dave Roarig in his own design,or maybe Paul Leffler's rear engine design sometimes driven by Ziggy.

It's a little grainy but when you blow up the photo it sure looks like the cars on the inside of rows 4 and 5 are cageless. I know it sounds crazy but that would put this photo at 1970 at the latest. And if it was taken in 1973 there would be rear engined cars in the race.

Amerlings car outside 2. Cageless cars like someone pointed out.

10/17/71 first of twin 50s
33 Parsons 5 Sessions
76 Pratt 4 Kunzman
3 Beale 6 Dickson
1 Weld 95 Busson
98 Poland 45 Harrison
11 Fairchild 15 Bigelow
99 Koepfer 21 Saldana
2 Gary B 8 Puterbaugh
84 Smith 7 Nordhorn
27 Jones 32 Thrasher

Finish Beale, Parsons, Kunzman,Sessions,Pratt
This is the day Gary B started last in the second 50,subbing for Weld in the Ben Leyba #1, and passed Kunzman & Sessions in the last 2 corners for the win.

I enhanced the picture as best I could, and even used a magnifying glass. It does appear there are cageless cars in the field, which would make this a pre 1971 event.
