Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade dates.
Just seen this on the tracks Facebook page. Attica Raceway Park has dropped their All Star sprint car dates for Renegade Sprint Car Series dates. Sounds like Guy Webb has shot him self in the foot and almost killed the All Stars due to recent comments.
Via the Renegade Facebook page: Due to some recent issues we have been contacted buy tracks now wanting Renegade races instead of All Star races. |
That is a big domino to fall
|
I've heard first hand that most promoters that don't have All Star races anymore; is all because of Guy Webb. If it was Bert Emick, the series would have 70-80 shows easy right now.

Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
If I was a fan, Id call before leaving for a ASCOC race. If I was a racer, Id make sure the purse was guaranteed.
I feel sorry for the teams, drivers and tracks mixed up in it. They all want to put on the best show possible and Webb steps in it big time. When Swindell and Kinser went of with USA and later NST I didn't hear WoO ownership bashing the teams that made it great. They took a (Can't blame ya for trying to do better, but when you can't or it fails. YOU'LL Be back) approach. Farmer tweeted that Fremont is concentrating on F.A.S.T and is taking all things into consideration. WOW, Just wow. I honestly didn't think it would tumble like it has. |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Well the crap has just about been blowed through the fan. Looks like Eldora, Limaland, Waynesfield & Fremont are the holdouts at least until I hear or see different.
Can't believe it took this long & the same thing could happen to another series that a lot of people talk crap about. |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
I wonder where UNOH is standing right about now. If they bail.....

Renegade Sprints Sanctioning Five Races at Attica Raceway Park in 2015
1/2/2015 Renegade Sprints Sanctioning Five Races at Attica Raceway Park in 2015 Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Jan. 2, 2015) – The Renegade Sprints is starting the new year with a big announcement about sprint car racing in Ohio. Attica Raceway Park has aligned with the 410ci sprint car series for the 2015 season. The Renegade Sprints will compete at the third-mile oval in Attica on April 3-4, June 19 and Sept. 4-5. “We’ve been taking our time seeing how things played out,” Attica Raceway Park General Manager Rex LeJeune said. “Due to recent events in the last week or so and getting word from a lot of the drivers that they wouldn’t be coming to Attica for a lot of races, it’ll be in the best interest of our fans to go in a different direction.” Easter Weekend will showcase the April 3-4 races known as the Spring Nationals. “We’re looking forward to a good relationship with the Renegade Sprints and bringing the best races we can to our race track,” Attica Raceway Park Promoter John Bores said. “We’re looking for a good 2015 as we kick off the season with two big days of our Spring Nationals.” June 19 was the slated Ohio Speedweek date and the Sept. 4-5 events are on Labor Day Weekend. “From what we were reading and hearing they had a good turnout and the fans enjoyed the shows,” LeJeune said of the Renegade Sprints events in 2014. “They did some creative things with the fans and the teams. The nucleus of drivers have been around our area for a long time and we want them to be a part of our race track.” Renegade Sprints President Shane Helms added that Attica Raceway Park is a boost for the series. “They are huge in Ohio,” he said. “It’s sprint car country. Tracks were threatened to lose their Speedweek dates if they signed with the Renegade Sprints. I’m glad Attica came on board.” With the addition of Attica Raceway Park to Millstream Speedway, Atomic Speedway, Hilltop Speedway and Wayne County Speedway, the Renegade Sprints are in shape to put together a Speedweek. “If Sharon Speedway, Fremont Speedway, Limaland Motorsports Park, Waynesfield Raceway Park or Eldora Speedway want to reach out then we’d be glad to talk,” Helms said. “It is time to get Ohio on the same page. We’re extending an offer to those tracks. Ohio deserves a Speedweek where everybody can come.” MEDIA LINKS – Website: http://www.Renegade410Sprints.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/RenegadeSprints Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Reneg...61036524065534 RENEGADE SPRINTS – The Renegade Sprints series was formed in 2014 to develop and improve the sport of 410ci sprint car racing in the rich historic region that includes Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Michigan. Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
In other words. We are having a Renegade OHIO Sprintweek with or without the other tracks. AT THE SAME TIME ASCOC's is.

Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
I'm really looking forward to bringing Renegades to Hartford Speedway in Michigan this year. They have been very professional and easy to work with.

Hell, this might be over before it even starts. No one has even fired a shot yet (unless you consider Webb shooting himself in the arse). Yeah, one could see only one series was going to survive in the end. I just thought this would play out a tad longer. To be continued..... |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Can someone enlighten me as to what caused the rift between the ASCOC and the Renegades and/or drivers?
|
Short answer....Guy Webb

Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
A interview with Guy Webb for Area Auto Racing News quoted Webb as saying something to the effect of. You can't make a series out of older drivers wishing to extend their careers. It also mentioned Danny Smith and a couple others. He later tried to spin that.
Well drivers who might have done both are now calling tracks like Attica and saying they will not race at ASCOC races. This is why Attica and Jacksonville dropped ASCOC. Dale Blaney ASCOC champion, who's basically guaranteed 500 just to show up at a ASCOC race has even chimed in on twitter. I rarely mention another site for information but Hoseheads forum has a lot more information, Weed through the hearsay and its in several different threads. |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Can anyone provide a link to the AARN (Area Auto Racing News) article/interview with Lenny Sammons that Webb had? I have read "he said this" and "he said that" and it obviously upset a few drivers, but I cannot find the actual report/transcript. Webb subsequently posted a clarification stating that he was taken out of context. I was just curious and would like to actually see/read the controversial interview and judge for myself to see if, in any way, he could have been taken out of context with respect to his remarks.
Not choosing sides, but as a sprint fan, I am just following along here. My whole adult life I have known that there are two sides to every story - sometimes three. On one hand it seems Webb here is rapidly digging a huge hole for himself and his series. On the other hand, I have seen journalism go sideways for the sake of making a name and controversial report for the journalist and the paper. So, any links? |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Sorry Mike, no link and I don't blame you for wanting to read it yourself. I'm a long time AARN subscriber and I did read the article. Len Sammons is a very well respected journalist and I believe he quoted Webb correctly. Notice Webb has not denied saying what was printed, only that it was taken out of context. IMO, he meant exactly what he said. Talk about ironic, when the Renegade series was first announced, Webb said that one of the reasons he would come out on top is because he "knew how to communicate with people".

Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
The article was a column that isn't online. Truthfully, I haven't read the column. It was published mid-Dec and none of this started until the comments in question were posted online by a reader. Not having read the article or context did cause some concern as you mention. So we didn't just Read --> React. We Read it, investigated it, and then responded. The investigating turned out to be a pretty quick step after getting some first-hand facts. While not wanting to disclose conversations - I'm pretty content that our response was well grounded in facts.
Our response could have waited, but it was one of those things where we felt it was important to get out in front of it to send a strong message about where we stood. I'm not even saying our response was the right response for all tracks. Circumstances can vary. In our case we did not have a long history with ASCOC. We did have a long and positive history with one of the named drivers and great respect for the others. Not only is one of them one of the most popular drivers at our race track, I can recall a time or two where we had shows where I thought we could be a little short on cars and asked him for the favor of towing 6 hours to help our show... and he did... without asking for an extra dime. We felt this was a time to have his back. Have we had some fun on our social media with the comments about age? Sure. Have we used to sell some extra tickets? Absolutely. But let me say this. Contrary to current popular opinion, Mr. Webb is no dummy. I don't see him going anywhere. His decisions and actions are thought-out and measured. He has experience in this sport that deserves some degree of respect and thoughts on other topics about the sport that are well-reasoned. If there were some large board of people who collectively ran this sport, he would certainly deserve a seat at the table. Unfortunately, his comments in this instance were toxic and forced us to choose sides - which we did. Hopefully this ongoing War of Ohio can be resolved soon for the health of the sport. |

Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
nobody got pointfund money in 2013. haven't herd about 2014 yet (were talking allstars)
|
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Unless the 4 or 5 tracks that are sticking with the All Stars bump their 1 to 2 races up to 4 or 5 a year Webb won't have much.
Then Blaney is even trying to tell him to keep his mouth shut. Webb might not be a dummy but with the NSL out farther Midwest he sure is going to be limited on where he can go if & when he tries to run a series. |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Looks like Guy Webb's empire is coming unglued. Might try keeping his mouth shut and not insulting drivers and tracks that appreciate those drivers. Could also practice being more humble and less egotistical. T:42:: They are not good qualities in any man.

Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Guy Webb says the Renegades have had no effect on his 2015 All Star sprint car series Schedule
by Lenny Sammons Focus on Speed – Page 4 – area auto racing news – Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 Guy Webb released his 2015 All Star circuit of champions schedule this past week. Webb was in Indianapolis for the PRI show, beating the drums for his 410 sprint car series which will again be sponsored by University of Northeast Ohio. Despite competition from the new renegade series started by former supporter/car owner Shane Helms in his base are of Ohio, Webb said he’s up from 40- events last year to 53 race dates. Only three of those dates carry TBA (to be announced) locations. “We’ve got everything we had last year and then some,” said Webb, ”we’ve not lost anything”. The anchor of the series, Ohio Speedweek, contains nine nights of racing at eight different tracks. Attica raceway park will again open Speedweek and Fremont (which has two events) will close it. Gone are Renegade committed tracks of Wayne County and Atomic. They’ve been replaced by races at 35 Raceway in Frankkfort and Moler in Williamsburg. In Ohio/Western PA Webb has other dates on the schedule during the year at Attica, Fremont, Mercer, Sharon, Lenerville and Eldora. An added event on Sunday Sept. 6 is expected in that area after a two race weekend in Attica. Tracks remaining loyal to Webb in Central PA are key speedways such as Williams Grove, Port Royal and Lincoln, with a TBA to follow the show at Lincoln on Sunday June 14. “When this started,’” said Webb of the Renegade Series, “we kept going. We finished all the races and our car counts were just as good. We didn’t lose any sponsors, we’ve gained some. We didn’t lose any dates, we gained them. Nothing has changed.” Webb was disappointed in fred Rahmer’s announcement last week in AARN that he was running a renegade series race on Sunday April 25. Webb said Rahmer is piggy-backing off two days of All Star series racing in the area at Williams Grove and Port Royal. He felt it unfair that he would follow the Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal, an event that has been growing in both purse and stature in recent years. As was the case, last year, only one New York State event is planned at Canandaigua Speedway. Webb has padded his schedule by adding co-sanctioned events that will offer point incentives to his racers at two WOO multi-day shows. His schedule shows the “Ironman” weekend in Pevely MO and the 3 day Williams Grove Natl Open in October on his schedule for the first time. He said he’ll “link” some points to those events to get his travelers to attend. “The Open is now three days and we want to encourage all of our people to come and support it” said Webb, of adding the extra dates at Williams Grove. “Dale Blaney finished fourth there last year and we want a better presence than we’ve been doing. Ohio has never been represented big at hat event and it should be.” Webb received bad publicity this season when car owner Mike Heffner went public regarding a lack of payment for driver Lance Dewease’s 2013 All Star’s Eastern regional championship. Heffner, who did return and won the same title this year with driver Greg Hodnett, had agreed to monthly payments but when they were not arriving as expected he began legal action. Webb said Heffner would have been paid by May, but will get his 2014 championship money before he gets the rest of his 2013 point fund now that the legal red tape is involved. Webb said that 2014 Natl and Ohio regional champion dale blaney has already been paid for this season and other will get checks after the first of the year. “We’re obligated to pay the first of January when our sponsorship money comes in” said Webb, “but I made a special deal with Dale so he’s already paid. I’ll pay the rest when some of the other 32 sponsorship contracts come back. It’s how I’ve done it the last 15 years. He expects Blaney to defend his championship. “Blaney is committed to us,” said Webb. “Always was.” He didn’t, however, want to commit to who the other teams were in fear they would have pressure put on them by his competition to got with the renegades instead. He did say that one of the Haudenschilds (Jac or Sheldon) would race with him along with the Phoenix No 59 owned by Tom and Sherry Leidig that Danny Holtgraver drove at the end of the season. “We’ll have five or six regulars with us,” said Webb. “I don’t want to the let the names out because they’ll start calling them, offering them idiotic stuff.” The Shane Helms-organized Renegades group contains several former All Star champions, including Tim Shaffer. “You cannot sell a series with B and C level talent,” said Webb of the Renegades. “if you look at Tim Shaffer, Chad Kemenah, Danny Smith and Greg Wilson they are all 45-50 yr old that are trying to hang on. There is a certain time that it is over and they have to move on in their career. They are just trying to prolong it.” Webb will begin his 15th season in control of the All Stars by returning to one large point fund rather than dividing it into three sections. While the renegades have yet to post an official schedule, Webb said he expects to run the majority of their events at the same three speedways in Ohio. Interested tracks in the Central PA area have been Rahmer’s events at Path valley along with a possible show with Bob Miller’s Thunder on the Hill series at Grandview and at Jake Smulley’s Big Diamond Raceway. “I’ve been checking on these dates they are talking about,” said Webb of the Renegades. “If you look at everything that has been put out about them you would crucify me if I put out press releases like they’ve been doing. There are no facts of when or where. All it says are names places they might be going to race. |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
If I am reading this right he is paying 2014 points money with 2015 sponsorship money?? Does that sound a little strange to anyone else?

Deleted post: The information is looking sketchy so best to hold off on it.
Edit : Saw that the following was confirmed. Rob Hunter (Chad K's car owner) has purchased 25% of the All Stars from Jean Lynch. Not quite sure what this means. I know in the past Jean owned some of the Speedweeks shows. They had better get this stuff straighten out quickly. |
Re: Attica (OH): Tracks drops All Star dates for Renegade da
Got to agree with John Hoover on the point fund payouts. Know that Mike Heffner, owner of the #27 that Greg Hodnett drives currently, actually sued Guy Webb over his not receiving his point fund money when Lance Dewease drove for him and won the Eastern point title of the All Stars which I believe it was back in 2012. I feel that you should have the point money set aside for the particular year you are running in and pay it out in a timely manner at the end of that season and not depend on next year sponsorship money to make previous year's payments. Not a good way to do business. You are counting on future sponsorship dollars to come in and we all know that sponsorship money can dry up and disappear in an instant. To me you are playing with fire and we all know the old adage about that! :42::
