Just making sure I understand properly.....to pre-enter it cost $65, if we miss pre-entry the cost is $95, which doesn't cover a pit pass. Pit passes are $20 and if you would like to pit inside it is another $25 to rent your pit stall. It is $500 to win the drops off quickly to $200 for 2nd and then 10th through 20th is $100. $65+$25+$20=$105 with all the buzz from racers from multiple different states and potential of a large field of cars I am a little surprised on purse/entry fees. Not trying to stir the pot just trying to understand the $$. |
I will check on.the entry fee cost. Will also check on the purse. Will try to call Steve tomorrow about everything.

Steve is going to have general admission tickets on sale but I seriously doubt if we will draw a PowrI size crowd that would justify a very large purse. Right now we are taking what somebody once told me was baby steps. A large car count and perhaps a good size front gate would go a long way in securing another race. Steve is taking a crap shoot on this race as we racers too are. What we need is a sponsor or several sponsors to supplement the purse. I sometime equate a race with a BINGO game we can have a $1000.00 coverall but the cost of cards will have to go up. I have volunteered to furnish the trophy's already for the race. In addition I will pledge $400.00 for steve to supplement the purse with compliments of Dad's Auto Sales LLC. I see this as a good advertisement investment and will turn it over to my accountant to be applied to my cost of doing business. This will drive us just a little deeper into the hole ***.:) NOW>>> if we can just find a few more business owners-car owners to advertise on our race we could have a very attractive purse for the racers and an Excellent advertising opportunity for a few smart business Owners.:) Honest Dad himself:6::6: |

Dad you hav3 some solid points and also most promoters make money selling.those hot dogs and beer.
On a side note if anyone does want to sponsor this race please send me a PM. Every penny will go back to.the drivers and no sponsor is too small. Sponsors can display banners at the race and will get mentioned through out the race. |
Re: Du Quoin indoor race February

If you race MMSA that is the rules for you, if you race ILSS you must race under their rules. This is an Outlaw race, and Steve invited the other Midgets with stock block engines to race also, It should be a fun and maybe we can get more cars to show up to race. The big question is how close are the cars to one another and which class is faster than the other. I am betting it will be real close and should bring about some very good racing. According to the Tulsa Shootout 20 Mini Sprints signed up for the race and about the same number of Echo Tecs signed up for their race. If they combined both classes together they would have a pretty good field, the question is can a car with 1/2 the cubic inches be competitive with a larger stock engine, if so it might be the way to improve racing for all of us. We need to come up with a tire rule that will take the advantage of big horsepower motors away like they did with the open wheel modified class and a better way to line the cars up to to make racing more competitive. I hope we have a bunch of cars show up from all Sportsman type Midgets and put on one heck of a race. I know Matt at SET and others don't really like that name but we sure are not National Midgets either. I told Jay that I can visualize you sitting behind your desk with your feet up on it a big cigar and cowboy hat and that trophy sitting on the front of the desk.:) Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
$65 for pre entry, to race for $500 is redickulus. At most it should be $40.
|
Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
Why do you need a tire rule to get more competitive racing? The guys that are running up front will still be running up front, and the guys in the back will still be at the back. Some people are always going to have more hp. Remember, it not all about MOTOR. Tire rule to cut tire cost is a different story.

At least someone is making money at it! I just enjoy spending it to go fast!

The goal of the guys back in the back should be to work on their driving and set up to be able to move further forward and not spend a lot of Money chasing Horse Power that they envision will get them their that won't help them an iota. We now race on the same right rear Tire that the National Midgets race on. They have twice the Horse Power that we do and it requires a very talented driver for them to get as much of that power to the track that is possible. We on the other hand also have the ability to break that tire loose but not to the extent that the big boys do. The driver that gets the most power to the ground and is fastest through the turns is still going to be the guy running out front. What I am proposing is make it harder for our type of car to get the power to the ground by switching to a Right rear with a 10" tread instead of a 12+" tread. It will be much easier to break that tire loose than the larger tire, also them guys in the back will really get a kick out of BUZZING their tires. Plus left rear tire are a lot cheaper than right rears and if the compound is hard enough it should result in longer tire life. (Now is the time to bring up tire chemicals:D). My response would be I would rather have a driver than a 55 gallon drum of go faster tire juice. This is just the reasoning of an old over the hill racer that would like to see racing "Live Long and Prosper".:) God Bless old "Henry Hall" wherever you are, I never would have thought I would be thinking like you but I ain't never been this old before either. Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
I like your statement should last longer. Heat cycles on harder tires come into play also. Don't forget that.:6:

Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
I understand for promoter the cost of indoor is high, but the cost for one race event (travel + entry) does not make sense to me. I don't have good answer to the problem. But if they had a two day event where we could get in multiple races that would make it more attractive to us long distance haulers..

Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
Micro
Heat cycles matter when you race full Midgets that is why we can buy cheap tires now. However a hard tire would not come from a Midget team. A real gong ho racer could still buy a new RR and expect better performance even with a hard tire, It is darned near impossible to make rules against people that want to spend money. May be date the tires and say no new tires until this one is one month old (lots of bookwork for somebody). Then they would just cut them down every night and probably somebody would have a pocket knife fold down on their finger and want to sue you.. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |

I don't expect to break even, I try to cut my losses as best I can. I don't expect for the race to pay my way their but sometimes I do pray that I will make enough to get back home. Watching guys promote races or run race tracks all we see is what they take in and most of us have no Idea about how much is going out the other end to put the show on. The purse is not usually the big expense it is all that nickle and dime stuff that hurts the profit margin. There are a lot of races we don't go to, and the reason is "WE can't afford to go" So we don't go, ain't no sense of crying. I hope we have a good turn out, for our sake and for Steve's sake. It is 200 miles for us and that is about our limit $500.00 to win or $5000.00 to win, right now I am praying over the old transmission in our truck.:) Honest Dad himself:6::6: PS Go where are you coming from? |
Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
Honest Dad,
Home is Bloomington, Il.. So it is 200 miles for us also. (one way). Been racing on and off long time and your right, never make money.. I do it for the fun of it and when the day comes when its not fun, I am done. But have to pick and choose because of expenses. Like I did not go to Tulsa this year because I blew two motors over this season. Just the way racing is. I do think though a two day event gets you more racing for your buck and it really is alot of fun when you have a couple of shots at running good. Just my thought. Take it easy and hope to see you around... GO |
Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
Go
Same here, when it stops being fun it's time to get out. My Idea would be a Hot Air Balloon. Crank it up take off float for a little bit, look for a big X on the ground and heave a bag of Pillsbury's best Flour at it. Set it down, fold it up and go out and get drunk with your other competitors. Won't make any money their also but what the hey. I think we went by Bloomington on the way to Peoria and I thought I was back home in Indiana. Try to make it down to DuQuoin at least you are in the same state. Have you ever run into a guy named Jim Mayhan I think he said he races up their a little bit. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Re: Du Quoin indoor race February
I think that the Chili Bowl has skewed a lot of thinking about racing. Having a midget car that you only race once a year??? Indoor racing?? Big pay day for promoting a race in the winter??
The number of indoor racing that has failed is long and prestigious, but because of the Chili Bowl people keep on trying. |

So.... Are all the details ironed out and what is the payouts? I have seen some confusion on here and am looking for the final details before I commit to hauling over 8 hours one way. I'm just looking for covering gas money, not making money. If I was worried about making money, I would've started a brewery and sold beer because, well, a lot of people like beer.... :)
Thanks |
I think everything shoukd hopefully be ironed out now. If you have any specific questions please send me a PM on.here or facebook
So far I have right around 30 drivers from throughout the Midwest coming to this event. Hopefully real soon the pictures of the trophies will be posted on here. These are very nice trophies that Dads Muffler and Auto Sales has provided for the top three finishers. We also have a couple of awards and some money donated by some sponsors to announce soon. |
