IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
It is not what you think... but here is the new IndianaOpenWheel.com midget...
http://www.kiwidirt.com/e107_files/p...7_grab_182.jpg http://www.kiwidirt.com/e107_files/p...7_grab_183.jpg http://www.kiwidirt.com/e107_files/p...7_grab_184.jpg http://www.kiwidirt.com/e107_files/p...7_grab_187.jpg http://www.kiwidirt.com/e107_files/p...7_grab_180.jpg These screenshots are from IOW member Wing H8a, he created the IndianaOpenWheel.com midget for the midget racing game rFactor. Many thanks goes to James for painting this car. Seeing these images takes me back to the days when the game Dirt Track Racing - Sprint Cars was created. That is when I started painting USAC cars for the game. It was that game and of course my love for Indiana Sprint Car racing that started a website called teamusacsprints.cjb.net, which led to USACFans.com and after the farmer :moon: decided to crash the party, USACFans.com changed its name and was re-created as IndianaOpenWheel.com, a site that now averages over 11 million pages views per month. Thanks James(Wing H8a)!! |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Impressive! I see your the one behind the wheel also.
|
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Yeah... I've never really been a very good wheel man though... I may need to hire a driver.:D
|
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Bill, back when that game came out, teamusacsprints was like my favorite site and I had every download there was! SilverCrown was my favorite series to run, though :O::respect: I never realized that was the origin of what is now IOW.com...:thumb

Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Your welcome Bill, I didn't know you were DTRSC old school, I only started racing DTR2 towards the end of its popularity and now just race rFactor, got a few mates that used to race DTRSC, what was your online name back in the day?
Glad you like the car, I can't wait to get up on a Saturday morning and join a USA server and see that car doing laps! I had to put you behind the wheel, too many other options when it comes to Indiana open wheel ledgends, didn't want to cause a fight! |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
BG was my screen name... later after being a part of the Simguys Racing League we all started using SGR-BG Raced with Risky Brisky, RichPA, Skully, Joe Snyder, Kirk "Spridge" ( I think he was like 10 years old then:D) Had alot of fun doing it.

Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
I haven't messed with my rFactor stuff lately. Are the midgets out yet?
Thanks. |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Not yet (next week or two I hope!) here is a teaser Youtube vid
(high res version on actual youtube page) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi0uVBcGnD4 |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
I kinda wondered why we don't have a dirt track racing sim leauge or at least winter IOW online racing.
Which game is best. I only have DTR2 and have had trouble getting or making a competitive sprinter/midget on it. What is that video from? Just think it would be cool as it's cool to go to a Kart track and race against some of your mentors. you really get to see how good they are or dirty when that happens :) It's fun |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
That game is rFactor,
I have raced Cole Whitt and Kevin Swindell (and beaten them) in rFactor Sprint Cars, that was cool! Not too sure if you can click on my signature and see the races I have competed in at KDSR (we are yet to run Sprints or Midgets but have done may other races) |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
I can't wait to try it...I haven't raced on dirt on the computer since DTRSC and the days of onlineracing.cc, where I met Bill. I've tried some of the rfactor dirt mods, but haven't liked them very much so far; I couldn't drive them. I'm probably too used to road racing now. ;) I need to get a new potentiometer (sp?) for my pedals for this, though; I have no throttle currently.

Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
The Midget Racing mod for rFactor has been released! :applaud:
http://www.kiwidirt.com/news.php You need to sign up on site to download. This looks like the best mod to rFactor yet. Plenty of chassis's, paint scheme's etc. to choose from right off the bat. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...u/kdsrlogo.jpg Screenshots from game http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4hou/kdsr2.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4hou/kdsr3.jpg |

Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Thought I would put the whole press release up as some poor person (namely me) when to the trouble of writing this propaganda! And it may give some answers to the "what do I need to do" questions.
I will post more info when I get home http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsrlogo.JPG Midget cars have been around since the 1930s. Originating on Americas West Coast, spreading fast through the country, and soon as far afield as New Zealand and Australia. They proved to be an entertaining distraction from the hard times of the Great Depression where large crowds would attend their local dirt track to watch these four cylinder engine cars throw dirt and clay skyward. With most of the home built chassis having humble beginnings in barns and sheds across the globe in the 1930s, today’s Midgets are nearly all factory produced and have developed into what would barley be recognizable as the same class of car by those first pioneer, leather capped, goggle wearing, dare devil drivers of yesteryear. Although through any and all the great eras of midget racing one common theme runs through them all, close, competitive, side by side and slide by slide action. In an attempt to capture the spirit of the mighty midgets and bring a small piece of it in to your home, KDSR (www.kiwidirt.com) has made a modification to the online internet racing simulation game rFactor (www.rfactor.net) by creating the world’s first online rFactor Midget car game, International Midget Cars. Closely based on real world physics and values these cars can be driven offline in single player mode or raced online against the thousands of rFactor players around the world on tracks modeled from New Zealand and American dirt tracks through to tracks that were designed by rFactor community members. Below - In game screen shot showing some of the adjustable setup features http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsr1.JPG RFactor is an open source game where the cars and tracks are made by the people who race them. The rFactor game itself only has a small variety of cars and tracks, all other cars and tracks can be downloaded for free and added into your game. From Formula 1, Touring Cars, Indy Cars, NASCAR to Sprint Cars, Dirt Late models, even Go-karts and lawn mowers, over 100 different vehicle types and 100s of tracks. These vehicles can be controlled by key board, joystick or a game pad similar to most popular home gaming consoles, or for that next level of immersion a wheel and pedal set is a must. While no longer considered a new game, a reasonable computer is required to play and enjoy rFactor at its full potential Below - Screen shots of on track action http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsr2.JPG http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsr3.JPG http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsr4.JPG The Midget modification has been widely anticipated by rFactor dirt fans and Midget racing enthusiast alike. Major Catastrophe, well known in the rFactor community for setting new standards in rFactor dirt car physics, took up the job of modeling the popular New Zealand Midget car BREKA chassis for this initial release. The chassis and driver were first made into a three dimensional image, then pulled apart, laid flat and passed on to Darren of DAZA Designs NZ LTD who has a long family association with midgets. Darren was able to create templates of the cars panels, drivers suit and helmet so that it could be distributed to others for painting, with the idea being people would have the chance to paint their very own midget applying a wide variety of techniques to come up with unique one off paint schemes and also the chance to replicate their favorite real life cars, from choosing the color of their rear axle and writing on the sun shield of the helmets visor to the powder coated frame and wheel plug colors. Below - The painted template of Kasey Kahne’s 2008 Chili Bowl Midget http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsr5.JPG To test if your computer is suitable to run rFactor a basic demo version, without the Midget Mod, is available for free download, along with a list of minimum system requirements, and full download & purchasing information at www.rfactor.net YouTube standard and hi resolution Videos available here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfLanicW5PE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi0uVBcGnD4 KDSR will be hosting weekly Midget league races and one off special events for all rFactor Midget players. For more Information and a free download of KDSR International Midget cars please register at www.kiwidirt.com http://www.midgetracingnews.com/kdsr6.JPG |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
Already registered at KiwiDirt. RFactor is next, then its time to buy me a new steering wheel. The setups will be difficult for me however. I look forward to this game....... Cannot wait!
Damn, all of that just to find out my system does not meet minimum requirements! Looks like it would be so much too! Jason Watt |

A couple of things. To play the Midgets you must have a full paid version of rFactor, 1. To play rFactor you must download and install the game from www.rFactor.net .(you maybe able to purchase rFactor on disk at a retail shop but I am not sure from where in the U.S you could get it. (check your computer meets the minimum requirements to play here: http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=features#sysreqs 2. Install it to your PC, 3. Then using pay pal, buy the "unlock coupon" ($39.99 USD) from www.rFactor.net . The unlock coupon opens up the ability to add cars and tracks into the game ,such as the midget car, and some dirt oval short tracks. Also without the full paid version you cannot race online against others. 4. Then goto www.kiwidirt.com , register, and download the Midget Mod (Modification to rFactor) and some dirt tracks and install them into your rFactor game folder (located in your program files). 5. To control the cars the keyboard wont really do, you will need a steering wheel and pedals or a joystick or gamepad (similar to a playstation or xbox) at a minimum. This is more of a simulation than a arcade type game, meaning it is not the sort of game that you can just pick up and start driving and instantly be Tony Stewart, it takes some getting used to. It does not come in a home gaming console (xbox/Playstatio) form, its PC only. |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
After you have downloaded and installed rFactor itself ......here is a link to the midget mod download. http://files.filefront.com/KDSR+Midg.../fileinfo.html
Feel free to join up at www.kiwidirt.com , goto the forums, goto the midget section and post up your questions there, Im sure you will get some help. I will try and help too. |

WH, I am thinking I need a different graphics cards. I can hear the music on the trial version watch the demo of them racing and go into the chat and everything. After selecting my track and car, then hitting the race button the program shuts down saying it has encountered a problem. I will looking to upgrade and hope to race you soon! Any help with this problem will be appreciated. Thanks, Jason Watt |

Yes, might need a better card possibly..... try adjusting your rFactor config (Start/All Programs/rFactor/rfactor Config) turn some settings down. Then while ingame try, under the headings "customize" then under "player" then under "Display", turn some of the settings down in the left hand colum. This may allow the game to play but it will not look as good as it could or should, but at least you may be able to get out on the track. Hope this helps. Wingy |
Re: IndianaOpenWheel.com midget coming to a track near you...
