Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
Whatever happened to the seized right rear tires at the THAT USAC race on Sept 18??
Where they tested? If so, who tested them? Was a chain of custody maintained? What were the test results? If they weren't tested, then why were they seized in the first place? What caused the tire seizure to start with??? SPD 37 |

Wow! You guessing or do you know?
|
Lol I'd guess they were placed in a dumpster and then taken to the landfill. If it was the magic elixir to victory everyone would do it, I mean a toddler could spray chemicals on a tire.

Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
Recieved email today from usac...i would paste it here but cant figure out how to do it.. so basically this is what the letter said..
tire samples taken from .. #69 bacon,#11p short, and @12 ballou all testing found no evidence of treatment if anyone would like the results emailed or faxed to them i can do that.. |
Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
Dustbowl
Treating tires is how dirt kart racing is now. The chassis are designed for it now. No place for it in midgets or sprints imho. |

Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
I bet you'll be surprised its happening a lot less than you think, Same thing with Traction control. Most orgs have Durometers and most test come back negative.
The most DQ's I've seen over tires is simply having a illegal compound on to begin with or refusing or loading up before testing is done. |
Common in karting

Karting could do without it. But it's tough to police at that level....for some reason.....jmo

Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
"It's tough to police at that level" seems to be the excuse at about every level.
|
The chemicals being used are not safe to be playing with. It should be banned at all levels...but...,

I remember years ago they had a company selling Karters a long ball brush hone that they could use on their tail pipes to hone them out and make them go faster. If you got "Go Faster" tonic Karters are the people to sell it to. If Karters ever figure out that the guys winning all the time could win in anything they sat down in the "Snake Oil" stock would take a drastic drop in price. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
It's out there more then people know. The people that make the Prep just have to keep the chemical balance with in what the Tire base line is, Just like traction control it is out there or these companies wouldn't still be in business. JMO

Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
The Karters don't even hide prep. Some of the biggest sponsors in karting are the prep makers. I'm sure traction control and prep is out there but not as rampent as people think. A good driver will win in any good car.

As I was saying go kart racers will buy into anything. How much prep does it take to hook up a single cylinder 5 Horsepower Motor. The Snake Oil people are big Kart supporters? Why would that be? How much would it take to hook up an 800Hp Sprint car. Do Laws of physics and chemistry also apply>when looking for more traction a racer will usually look for a softer compound tire, his next decision if it is a sprint car with that softer compound will I be able to finis the race, the same applys to sipeing, grooving or for that matter tire traction aid you can't have both traction and long life no matter what they tell you. Sprint cars can rip the tread off of a tire. They would probably be pushing traction control on Karts but every time the TC Killed a cylinder to stop wheel spin the poor guy would have to get out and restart his race car. There are adds supporting traction control and even Demos showing the advantage of the things. Those are adds. Find a good driver and car combination get them to push your product, and you will sell a lot of people, whether it be chassis, sway bars, shocks, tire prep or engine work. Traction control is secret so all they have to do is imply that so and so is using it, maybe start a rumor. I remember in the old days they would run a big article in a racing magazine telling all about the newest thing out for the racer. At the end of the article it would say for more info about this product contact the manufacture at PO box CT1243 Someplace USA. Any Idea what CT stood for? Do you really think that all of these article are objective. Let the buyer beware. The best example of traction control being used was a picture that showed a Formula I car speeding out of the pits. Instead of big long streeks of black rubber and smoke on the pavement it came out as 6 inches of black followed by a foot of pavement then another 6 inches of black rubber and another foot of pavement on and on behind the race car. That was traction control> Honest Dad himself :6::6: |
Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
karting gave up trying because every time they found a way to police it, someone found another way to beat it. there have been a few serious incidents with fire and people getting sick from the preps so now they basically tell you no prepping in the trailers. there are preps for
everything....harder, softer, less bite, more bite, ect, ect, ect. most times you cant hide the smell and thats usually the tip off.....wintergreen....creosote....thats very very hard to hide but is at the top of the list for preps. i have heard of guys getting busted for using simple green to wash tires. and yes.....imo....karters were the first to openly use preps as a tuning device. |

"As I was saying go kart racers will buy into anything. " Do yourself a favor and don't say that anymore. Not only is that statement rediculous it can be said about any form of racing. "How much prep does it take to hook up a single cylinder 5 Horsepower Motor." Prepping tires has very little to do with the amount of horsepower or engine size. (I.e. Prepping front tires is just as important as prepping rears if not more important) "The Snake Oil people are big Kart supporters? " WHAT???? "you can't have both traction and long life no matter what they tell you. " Spinning tires wear better than non spinning tires? "They would probably be pushing traction control on Karts but every time the TC Killed a cylinder to stop wheel spin the poor guy would have to get out and restart his race car." Why do you hate kart racing so bad? I don't get the continuous cheap shots. Maybe you should attend one of the Burriss events or one like it. "Traction control is secret so all they have to do is imply that so and so is using it, maybe start a rumor" You should learn a bit more about TC. It takes a talented driver to even gain an advantage with it. It also can easily be a big disadvantage. It's not going to take your average racer and put him in the W column. In the right hands yes, it would be like an active steady home run hitter adding steroids to their game. Like steroids it should be banned! P.S. Your previous comment about a hone being used on karts to bore out the inside diameter of the header pipe was total BS also. I think what you're referring to was removing any carbon build up or surface rust from week to week to create a smoother exhaust flow. The flowbench proved this to be a small benefit back when straight pipes were popular. |
Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
A long time ago I was driving for a guy who was telling me how gullible racers were. To prove his point, he got one of those rods with a huge turnbuckle on it and welded it into his late model. One end was attached to the roll cage behind the driver's head, the other end went out through the floor on the passenger side. That end of the rod wasn't attached to anything. Every time the car came into the pits, he would adjust the turnbuckle. Within two weeks, a dozen other cars had rods with turnbuckles welded into their cars.

Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
One rule of racing that must be understood at all times:
-It is a Monkey see; Monkey do sport. This goes for all levels and it has trickle down effect all the way down from F1. To quote the great Karl Kinser " If I put a turd on the hood everyone would have one on their hood next week." As far as the prep, I'm not advocate of it, but if you're going to be up front in karting you better be on it or you'll be .2-.5 tenths off the pace. Thats the reality of it. Tire prep makes a big difference whether you want to believe it or not. |
Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
Kart
We get about the same benefit out of a new Right Rear tire, on our car. Could a middle of the pack racer start using "Dope" and move to the front with just the aide of that stuff. I bet Burris has a new tire that would do almost the same thing at a price. Sprint car racers have but a few compounds to choose from, how many does Burris offer now? A sprint car on a good night will destroy a brand new RR tire. We were given a "Doped" RR one time and ate it up in 10 laps on our little underpowered car, That's probably why the guy gave it to us.:5: I think I will continue to bet on the "Jockey" instead of brands of "Dope". Do you guys race with Kurtis Potter? Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Re: Seized RR tires at Terre Haute
If everyone done it, it wouldn't be an advantage, Right?

I didn't intend for my remarks to be taken as cheap shots at Go Kart Racers. They were made with a little smile on my face and not a smirk. They weren't made with Kart racers or Sprint Car racers in mind they were perhaps made with human being in general in mind. People are all the same, Lately we seem to have divided ourselves into two camps but when push comes to shove we are all tend to be alike. I have been around a few years and have witnessed a lot in these years. Some good and some bad and some just plain Funny. I started racing in Quarter Midgets in 1957, and soon out grew them little things and moved up or over to Micros when "Cushman" was King. I soon got to the point that my dad couldn't push start me (We didn't have push trucks, just push people) and was told I would have to retire. Go Karting had just begun to flourish and I do mean flourish in the USA back at that time so I went to Go Karts. My first Kart was a Bug with a Power products AH58 motor powering it and I though I was Hot Sh1t. My last kart was a Home built 65 pound light weight with a West Bend 820 on it. That thing darned near killed me. I went back to Quarter Midget racing as a handler for several years, went to College and dropped out of racing for about 10 years or so. I got back into racing helping an old Micro friend Bill Felker race his son AJ. We also became very interested in those things but at the time my son was too young at to drive one so we started back into Go Karts where I was introduced to the "Fuller Brush" tail pipe salesman. People are people and Go Karters are racers, Karts are usually entry level racing and as such has more than it's share of people selling gimmicks. I was born in Kentucky and moved to Indiana. I have heard most of the Kentucky jokes and Hoosier jokes also and try not to take offense to any of them. In racing we make jokes about other classes in life we make jokes about of other races, other religions and other political views, but that is Human nature and no amount of political correctness will ever change that, Even the political correct people occasionally let down their guard and get caught showing their true nature. As an observer of Human nature I Love it. We race for fun. Our big enjoyment beside a win ever so often is "Data Acquisition" Like watching people it is neat to watch you engine and race car to see what it is doing and make changes to see if it helps. We call it racing ourselves, them other guys are too hard to beat. Our latest system actually sends the info up to the clouds and when we get it all up and running I can sit in the bleachers and watch things in real time, ala Mr Fleetwood. Unfortunately or fortunately for my driver it does not allow me to give commands back to the race car. Can you imagine the drivers surprise when he dives down into the turn and some guy siting in the bleachers has just unloaded his left rear tire. I don't think even the most advanced traction control company have introduced sideline control nor do I think they would want to. We as humans are always looking for that guy with an advantage over us and want to call him out on it. Because we were running Data Acquisition 15 years ago we had a fellow racer that swore up and down that I was changing the set up from the sidelines, not that I was smart enough to do that, but that was his feelings. Human Nature Is Human Nature!!! If you race Karts and you feel it takes "Dope" to win and they have not made a rule against it, by all means "DOPE IT UP" and have at it. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
I don't race karts. I used too. I just attend a few races when I can. My lil brother, Kevin Weldon, races karts though

I wonder just how many "Doped" tires USAC has managed to uncover in the last 5 years???? There must be an accounting out there somewhere?
Joey Who is that hot shot in the 92 car>>>he obviously is using some form of Traction control!!! at Haubstadt. :) Honest Dad himself:6::6: |

He seems to be getting more to the ground than everybody else out there>> so it has got to be TC or Doping>>>Maybe both. I was sitting in the pit grand stands at Twin Cities about 10 years ago in the top row. watching a sprint car race very intently, all of a sudden I heard a loud bang, and that old 2 x 8 bleacher seat shook like all heck was breaking loose. I looked over and one of them guys had thrown a piece of tread off about the size of a folded over newspaper and placed it in the seat right to the left of me. Those tires don't need any help to destroying themselves. Sure was lucky that the crowd was down and there were not a lot of people in the stands that night. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
