Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Less than a month away from Atomic's Open Wheel Championships. What Non-Wing drivers can we see show up? Looking forward to it!

Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Considering any teams who decide to compete will need to be at the track for 3 days, in order to receive 1 payout, I'm thinking the field will not be a large one, unfortunately.
Here's the schedule from http://www.atomicspeedway.net/ 3 DAY OPEN WHEEL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Sprints, Non Wing Sprints Unsanctioned with Modifieds October 23- Sprint Practice, Non Wing Qualifing & Heats, Modified Qualifying & Heats October 24- Sprint Qualifying & Heats, Non Wing B-Mains, Modified B-Mains October 25- Sprint B-Mains & Feature $15,000 TO WIN, Non Wing Feature $5,000 TO WIN, Modified Feature $3,000 TO WIN __________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ Personally, I think this should be no more than a 2-day show. If they can only pull off 4 races on Saturday, it'll likely be a long day/night of waiting around. :14: (I also find it comical that they refer to the classes as Sprints, and Non Wing Sprints... shouldn't it be vice-versa? :3:) |
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Well if you qualify for the feature on Thurs, You don't have to be there Friday But then its two trips and the same all weekend pit pass. A, You'll either need a hotel or a camper with heat.
5 G is a pretty big purse for NW in OH, Maybe the biggest next to BOSS Fremont Spring race and USAC's two Eldora visits and the Hewitt at Waynesfield which I think was 3500 with some bonus's and contengincies. Considering there isn't a darn thing else running, I figure they'll have a good field of cars of whats left running, Last fall they started these shows early, Like hotlaps at 4pm. I went to one of their last sprint shows and it was done at 830 I get what your saying and Im in agreement, Two day show at most. I use to hate going to Funfest and to see everyone race, You had to go all three days. So glad they changed that to Full shows each night for different classes. |
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Somebody probably racked their brain out coming up with this schedule. Qualify everybody and run heats Friday with the B's and A's on Sat. And the winged guys need a "practice" night? I kind've doubt it. Maybe a huge car count is expected and the track shouldn't get used up spreading things out. I wish them luck and hope it goes well. I was thinking Short Track Nationals that weekend but this is a closer track that I've never been to so the Weatherman may decide this one for me.

It's great its paying $5K to win. But how's the rest of the payout? Can't seem to find it anywhere.
|
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
here is a link that has all payout info http://atomicspeedwayowc.webs.com/
|
Thank you. That is an impressive payout. Nice to see a show that doesn't pay $5K to win and $1K for 2nd. Looks like I need to find a ride for this one. I'd take a wing ride too by the way.

Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Does anyone remember, october 2013, eldora speedway, 131 sprint cars of all types, about 23 great races, 25.00 pit pass, all completed in one day, this 2 and 3 day stuff, is a get rich quick scam, by the time, we take our cars, for a 2 or 3 day show, we are all paying our own 35.00 and 40.00 pit passes, if each car has 4 people, with it, between travel, food, lodging, we are racing for free, and losing, job time, plus all the rest, of what it takes, to field each car, this is the dumbest thing i have ever heard, in 50 years of racing, Chuck Carpenter:15::15::15::15:

Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Chuck, In 50 years of racing, you never heard of the "Dirt Track World Championship" ?
started in the late 70's by Carl Short at the famous "Pennsboro Speedway" in WV, A very successful 3 day event for all these years, scheduled at Portsmouth Raceway Park this year the weekend before the Atomic special. Always have huge car count and fan support. Apparently, some people (racers & fans) like these events, plan their schedule & budget accordingly. Ask Carl Short how dumb this 3 day idea was/is. Wasn't that Eldora deal scheduled for 3 days ? condensed due to weather/temps. very low turnout, dropped from the following years schedule, may have been 2012 fun/fest deal, some of these work, some don't. Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Don't forget tonight is the last night to save $50 by Pre-Entry. Looks like already 45 Sprints have Pre-entered.

Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
What's Atomic like? Never been there but willing to take a chance. Dustbowl or not? Multi-groove usually? Need some help here for a 300 mile drive.
|
Pennsboro is on the rise. Trade show/swap meet there this weekend. It's a fundraiser for more facility work.
|
Last year's Sprintacular had 119 total sprints. The Blue Collar Bash was a multiple day deal in 2012, with Mini-Sprints too.
|
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
I've posted a bunch of videos from there on YouTube.

Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Flatrightrear, You will not be let down. I'd put it right there with Attica as far as action.
|
Atomic is a high banked high speed track. I've been there twice this year and the racing was excellent. It's definitely one of my favorite tracks and I look forward to going back.
|
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
been going there since the late 1960's. my favorite track. it has the steepest banking of all ohio track's and is very fast. really only needs to be a two day event. but will be there...
|
1) It's the first year for the event so who knows how many cars will be there. If you get 200 cars, which is HIGHLY possible then people will ***** they sat through 10 mods heats before the sprints, so maybe just maybe 3 days could be alright.
2) it PAYS HUGE $$$$. Hello am I'm missing something here but in the day and age of tracks closing right and left or up in the air for next season, this track is trying to bring a late season HUGE race to fans, drivers, n the sport!! 3) it's late October who knows about weather and again 3 days might, just maybe be better in case, yes Ohio October, could be cold, in case it is and gets program done sooner So instead of writing off, not showing up because it's 3 days, or ******** already before you seen a lap or an attempt or the weather or car count for it and being negative, why the hell not give it a shot before you decide. Just because it it's your perfect agenda doesn't mean it wont work. No wonder tracks are closing n people getting out of the sport right n left because here's a big show, better than most purses a car can race for the majority of the season in this region n the critics are out a month before it happens. Why not be happy, thankful, or at least encouraging of oh wow this is cool SOMEONE is trying another big event. Okay sorry for my rant for the day but just pisses me off anymore people find something to run down stuff wayyyyyyyyyy before it even happens. If it sucks or bombs, then cut loose but before it happens, no one can tell what's going to be right or wrong. |
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Duane, Some of the negative post on this are similar to the 305 sprints at Bloomington thread, all sorts of things wrong, wing class, not in my backyard, not on my day off work, promoters ripping us off, it's in Ohio, it's in October, it,s 3 days, etc, etc, etc. I understand the rant, It's difficult to ignore some of these mega posters who, apparently, feel some obligation to impart their knowledge on almost every thread on this board, usually negative, unless it affect their favorite track or class.
To quote Red Green, Just hang in there, we are all in this together Bill May |
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
A person can make it a one, two or three day show, right? Just show up when you want to. Problem solved. Weather might be the "iffy" so let's hope it turns out well for all involved.
|
Is there a "NON WING" entry list anywhere?
|
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
They haven't released it yet but they said they had more than 20 Pre-Entered.
|
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Let's get a ROLL CALL started for this race. Less than 3 weeks away. Who do you know that is going?

Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Sweet. Should be a great time. Anyone else?
|
It ought to be a great time. What kind of camping facilities do they have.
|
Re: Non-Winged Sprints at Atomic Roll Call
Entry fee's for all classes have been done away with per Atomic Speedway facebook page.
They have about 100-150 camping spots with no hookups and then there are about 20 camping spots ran by a private person that has electric and water hookups |
