August 30th Midget Event Kicks Off Busy Open-Wheel Midget and Sprint Schedule at the Montpelier Motor Speedway When the Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series takes to the track on Saturday, August 30th, it will kick off not only an aggressive slate of Midget racing at MMS through early October, but lead into the much anticipated return of Sprint Cars to MMS with the inaugural visit of the BOSS – Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series on September 6th. The series' schedule and competition will heat up for the remainder of the season with 5 different events scheduled through early October (August 30, September 13, September 20, September 27, and October 11) heading towards the culmination of a series champion. The Leaders Edge of Indianapolis is the presenting title sponsor for the Midget series. 2013 Fort Wayne Rumble Winner, Justin Peck, became the 13th different winner in the 17 events hosted at MMS with his triumph on July 26th. Previous series and MTQRL winner, Tate Martz (Steele #2) has parlayed back to back runner up finishes to become the series point’s leader with 5 remaining events. With an early season that was plagued with track construction and followed later by rainouts, former series champion, Lynsey Liguori, has picked up the series’ other loan win this season. The event will feature the Montpelier’s Midget Series which features full size Midgets and power plants and allows a platform for other engines including Focus, Ecotech, and Motorcycle powered entries to compete utilizing an unlimited weight break and additional tire width. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series features an open tire brand and compound rule. Watson Racing is sponsoring a $100 cash award for the highest finisher powered by Focus, Ecotech, or Motorcycle power plants. The Sportsman winner of this award on August 30th will be guaranteed to make a minimum of $200/$250(with 21 Midgets). Intermission during the event will feature a kids/family autograph and photo session where families will be allowed into the pits to collect autographs and view the cars up close during the break in action. There will also be a free kids raffle where two lucky kids will take home brand new bikes. General Admission will be a great value for fans at only $12 with Kids (12 and Under) - FREE! Re: Montpelier Midgets Aug 30 Kick Off Month of Midgets/Spri
We have had a few questions about the kids portion of the program. With the autograph session, we will allow anyone in the main grandstands the opportunity to go back into the pits to meet drivers, get autographs, take pictures during the intermission only. This is a very popular event at MMS. As you driver, you can merely sign an autograph when asked. A lot of other drivers take it step further having a bucket of candy, autograph cards, etc... for the kids. Most of our diehard families have been back to see the mods and stock cars at our other events. This will be for a lot of them the first time to be able to see a Midget up close.
We will clear the fans back into the main grandstands before starting the feature so we will have the families back to safety and out of the push off area to get the Midgets started. |

A great night of racing on tap tonight at the Montpelier Motor Speedway with the Mighty Midgets! We will also have a sprinter or two on hand to promote next week's BOSS event at the Montpelier Motor Speedway.

Re: Montpelier Midgets Aug 30 Kick Off Month of Midgets/Spri
What an awesome race track last night! Smooth, tacky and fast, apron to rim. Congrats to Justin; he had his elbows up every time he went by me (I think it was four..). Good Job by Doug & Dad, taking Greg's hundred after rolling in so late they had to unload out in the mosquito hatchery up in turn two and switch from a wing to a non-wing setup. Good to see the Chain Gang strongly represented; it was actually 4, not 3: me, Doug, Colin Parker and Pat Mead. I had a good dice with Pat early in our heat, proving the old Suzuki can pull off the corners with a more modern R1, but in both the heat and feature fell victim to two correctable errors; a missed setup (too loose in the heat, too tight in the Featch)and driver fatigue. Fixing one will help the other a little; a well-setup car is much less taxing to drive than one you have to fight with massive applications of steering & throttle input, but I still need to get my butt into exercise mode.
Wonder if PitFit has a Senior discount? |

We asked fo them to save us a trailer spot, they saved us an entire private very exclusive pit section on the back stretch of th old 1/2 mile track and even furnished an escort to get us there. We did have to share our pit with the track grader, wheel packer and several other pieces of track prep equipment along with several million mosquitoes. Lucky for us our years of racing at Lawrenceburg had taught us how to deal with them bugs and we found a 6 pack of "Off" stashed in the trailer. We did have one small race fan venture back to our pits but he didn't spend much time because of not being protected. Those guys up there have sure spent a lot of money on equipment, I can testify to that because we pitted along side of all that heavy machinery. They also have the personal to use that stuff on the track. Like you said they gave us one heck of a race track, maybe a little too good for us. We missed the set up a little again this time also. We were expecting a typical Saturday night race track with deteriorated track for the Main. What did they do but invite the fans down to the pits for intermission and autographs then take all that equipment out and re do the track all over again. We have been to two tracks that do this, Tulsa at the Chili Bowl and Hobustad Indiana, two very swanky race tracks. Looks like now we have been to three, they did an exceptional job last night. We also noticed a lack of them pesky big old tires that sure was neat. After getting there just a little late like half an hour or so, we didn't know about all them detours. They found time for us to take a few hot laps by ourselves, not many track will do that, we started the heat in our usual position on the tail of the last heat, that is about how we draw also so that didn't affect us much. We managed to work up to forth place in the heat. Doug got the chance to race with an old friend of mine from way back in my Quarter Midget days by the name of Robby Parish. The last half of the heat race Doug and Gary Gipson traded diving and crossing over passes on each turn changing their position back and forth between each other each lap, just like them good old days It had to have been a good show for the crowd. That forth place in the last heat was good enough for a 12th place starting spot in the Feature and we managed to work our way up to an 11th place finish. While not good enough for hard charger it was good enough to capture the $100.00 for highest finishing Sportsman Midget posted by Watson racing. That was just enough to buy gas to go back home on and 6 White Castles and a couple of pops. For us Sportsmen type Open Wheel racers that is considered a good night. You Mini sprinters should look into racing up there on your free nights. We weigh a little more than the Midget do because of a grown up driver and all of my race analyzer hardware that I keep on board. (some of us like to piddle) We sure aren't the fastest Mini Sprint out there but we raced close to the top ten that we were shooting for. There are a bunch of Mini Sprints out there that could do that. Had we started further forward we could have done better. You also have the chance to race with some great drivers like Robby Parish and Hot Rod Heidenreich. I was amazed at the attitude of all the racer we raced against last night they raced both aggressive and very clean I don't think I saw any wheel banging last night at all. You young drivers lucky enough to be racing at Montpelier take notice of those older very experienced drivers that you are lucky enough to be racing with , they have a lot to teach you if you are willing to learn. The reason they are there is because Harold has provided them an opportunity that supports economical Midget racing and they can afford to do it once again. Keep an eye out for us we just might be back. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |

We had a great turnout in the pits (130+ cars) and in the grandstands! The series is only working because of the car owners and drivers that are behind us supporting our efforts. We are doing whatever we can to make MMS a great place to race. I was personally stopped on two different occasions by a couple of Sprint Car fans that stayed closer to home because of the forecast and they were both really impressed by the show the Midgets put and the speed of the cars. We are going to be the best we can be by winning one fan and one car at a time. The Montpelier Motor Speedway will be turning its focus to this Saturday night's (September 6th) BOSS Sprint event. The Midgets will next be in action on September 13, September 20, September 27, and October 11. |
Re: Montpelier Midgets Aug 30 Kick Off Month of Midgets/Spri
Brian and MMSA racers
It looks like "Wonder Valley" has done it again, No race for the thirteenth of September, that's why we call it "Wonder Valley", wonder what they are going to do this time. So since it appears to be an open date for us why not take off the wings and go race with the Midgets at Montpelier. You guy's might surprise your self on how competitive you are against your bigger brothers. We may have changed our name to "Lightning Sprint" to be politically correct and accepted by our peers but to me we are much closer to being "1000cc Midgets" or even "Sportsmen Midgets" than a Mini or Lightning anything. Since we were the 21 st car to sign in last week, the purse went up quite a bit for everyone. Their purse is posted for everyone to read on their web site at the bottom of their rules section. By the way you racers up their are welcome. We earned $175.00 for 11th spot plus Mr. Walker's $100.00 bonus for first Sportsman across the finish line made a pretty good size win for us and we had room for improvement. If we had 5 or 6 MMSA racers show up we could call it the "Invasion of the Chain Gang". I can guarantee you will have a ball racing there. These guys know how to take care of a race track and whatever Harold says Harold does. Heck we might even get our own private pit section on the back stretch. Harold is promoting midget racing in Indiana he also supports us with a race lets support him with a few cars on one of our off weeks. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Planning on running there for every midget show next year. Just tore up too much stuff at gas city in july to get it back together. It's a three hour tow from the queen city but worth every minute.
|
I agree dad great place to race and a excellent facility even though it's a bit of a drive I don't think you mini sprint guys race on a better track anywhere. I have a customer with a mini who next year solely wants to run the montpelier series instead of running wings anywhere

Re: Montpelier Midgets Aug 30 Kick Off Month of Midgets/Spri
"Invasion of the Chain Gang"? Wonder where you got that line? That's OK though, I don't mind sharing; more chains equals a bigger gang. It'd be realy cool if sprocketheads made up half the field on the 13th. And I do thank you, Dad; by making the tow and pitting on the "Mosquito Coast" there was an extra fifty bucks at the pay window for me. Now, if enough cars show up, I'm gonna have to up my game to earn a transfer spot but that's OK too. Competition improves the breed.
Join us, Brothers of the Links! Take up your chains, rise up and vanquish the Mighty Midgets! |
