A media comment
This is about the media ONLY. No finger pointing except at the media.
The way that the media has presented / handled this incredibly unfortunate incident has ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED ME!!!! I will question everything I see on the news from now on. I knew it was slanted but I obviously had no clue how bad !!! In this instance I can't figure out which they hate worse ; the facts , racing, or tony stewart! SHAME SHAME MEDIA!!!!! |
Re: A media comment
I can't say with 100 percent accuracy what happened, and I don't think anyone can yet. But Killed is the popular headline, I've even seen MURDERED,
As for trusting the media, You better check about ten outlets and you get better, more truthful reporting from NON American media than Domestic. BBC, Canadian Free Press, Der Spiegel etc. I haven't trusted the media for about 15 years and now its down to six companies controlling 90% of TV, Print and Radio and often they all repeat either AP,or even straight off the WH press secretaries desk. Now NBC/Comcast/Universal wants to takeover Time Warner. Oh Vey Some good movies the rest of the companies are crap. Whatever happened to Monopolization laws?co IMHO the media feeds its own viewership, Creating the division and drama. Serving its own self interest. Wheres Al Schottlecottie with a half hour of how, what, when without any spin? At ..... NY a driver was struck and died after contact between himself and a car driven by Tony Stewart. A full investigation has been launched. Nothing more, Nothing less. |
Re: A media comment
The whole deal makes me want to puke!
If it was me that hit that kid, the story would have been over and almost forgotten about, except for on this forum probably. We'd still be talking about the tragedy and the getting out of the car and walking on the track surface during a caution I'm assuming. But nothing about murder, or killed on purpose... The news media sensationalizes everything to make headlines especially when a celebrity is involved. It's really a shame that this is what our society has developed into.... |
Now you know what it is like to be a police officer. We have been dealing with it for years. Ratings ratings ratings. That is all the media cares about and they could care less about the consequences. Sad but true.
|
I've almost shot my TV watching COPS ! I would shoot the 1st ignorant SOB that told me " these ain't my pants !"
I do not envy police officers and god bless you for what you do ! |
The main stream media in this whole situation has been sickening! If you simply "google" Tony Stewart's name it brings up nothing but negative article after negative article. Apparently because Tony was a hot head in the past NASCAR seasons he is now a murderer. Makes no sense to me. Unfortunately for him, regardless of the investigative outcome, he will have half the world thinking he is a killer. Saddens me, really.

I hope you are not a police officer in Saint Lois this week.. They said they wont even let the media fly a helicopter over all the protests with all the violance from that kid being shot. Our government is out of control and don't think that the white house doesn't control what the media is telling the SHEEPLE! Sad to say but the media is taking some coverage off of Stewart when they thought it was more important to tell the viewiers what position Robin Williams was in when he put that rope around his neck! |
Re: A media comment
Murdoch put a offer then withdrew for Time Warner.
Now Comcast is looking into it. |
Re: A media comment
A friend of mine posted this the other day after I saw an article on CNN.com listing Ward as a "NASCAR driver"

The PD helicopter has taken rounds and they advised the FAA of that fact, as required. The FAA has the ultimate responsibility for US airspace and the ONLY the FAA that can close any airspace. The police can "ask" but nobody else can issue the order.. The FAA doesn't want a news copter to go down. Plain and simple. These guys can all fly in the same airspace and do it safety. The FAA is just trying to save the media from themselves. Sorry media the PD isn't trying to control you.. Just save you

Re: A media comment
Everything I have seen in print has Tony hitting him & causing the wreck. I get home today & see where Sr. has him hitting him also. Until I see a picture from the backside of them I still say Jr. got into the loose stuff & the rear slid into the wall because the rear hits 1st. If Tony had hit Jr's left front I'm thinking the front end would have veered to the right & it did not.

Re: A media comment
The worst comments I have seen were from Rusty Wallace on Sunday. I think he is just bitter that his kid has no talent

That's funny !

Re: A media comment
Sadly I feel the media has done a very poor job covering the tragic accident that happended Saturday night,. There have been a few articles that I have read that really get it that this was a tragic accident others don't get it at all. Also sadly I think we are about to witness round two. Young Kevin Ward Jr.'s calling hours are being held at the Trainor Funeral Home in Booneville N. Y. today, his funeral tomorrow has been moved to the South Lewis Senior High School in Turin, N. Y.. When I learned of this change yesterday it took me back years, we were exiting the church after Jimmy Shampine's funeral going down the steps of the church to media cameras going off in his families faces as well as many of the rest of the racing community members there to honor one of their own who lost his life in a tragic accident at Oswego. I have to admit the TV stations covering Jimmy's funeral were local news media channels from Syracuse N. Y.. I will also admit that until I saw the ESS notifaction yesterday about the change of venue for the funeral that I hadn't given much thought to the large media presence that will probably be covering Kevin's funeral.
I hope I am wrong and the news media will allow his family and the racing community this time to grieve in private and not turn his funeral into a media circus. After some of things they have written about Robin Williams death I have to ask how much is two much information for the news media to have access to? Someone earlier in this thread stated if he was the other driver involved in this tragic accident it wouldn't have become national and world news. I had a very similar feeling on Saturday night when I first learned of the accident only I told my boyfriend if it were another ESS driver it wouldn't be the story it is coming to become. Even having that thought I never expected to see the headlines "Tony Stewart Killed young Kevin Ward Jr." or "Tony Stewart is a Murderer" when I woke up on Sunday morning nor did I expect to see the vedio of the accident on every news media outlet out there. Growing up in Central N. Y. I might have expected to have the lead story on the Sunday evening news be about the incident not here in Az. where channel 12 news devoted 5 to 6 minutes to the tragic accident. They had Bruce St. James a local sprint car driver and radio personality in studio, a reporter at Canyon Speedway doing a telephone interview with Kevin Montgomery. I don't think it would be to far off to say they gave so much attention to the tragic accident and what changes it will mean for the sport because Tony Stewart was involved in the accident and Nascar comes to Avondale (Phoenix) twice a year. While I have never met Kevin Ward Jr. or his family I do know some of the other families that race with the ESS, my thoughts and prayers have been with the Ward family, the ESS racing community, the Canandaigua Motorsports Park family, staff & fans, Tony Stewart, his family, friends and fans ever since Saturday night and will remain with them as we go forward. I personally have lost the respect I had for a number of news reporters over the past several days. Everyone became an expert on auto racing over the weekend, sadly many of those so called experts have never been to a race track let along know what racing division they were talking about. While I don't feel the need to name names I will think twice about putting any faith in what some people report in the future. Patti |
Had to listen to a fool today, say that Ward qas the driver that broke both Tonys legs 2 years ago, and that Tony drove up the track to hit him. I wanted to straggle the guy. But I told him that vision from the cockpit of any race car isn't great and even worse out the right side. Found out he's never even been to a dirt track.

Re: A media comment
Not all Media are clueless. Here someone who's gone and talked to a driver.

Re: A media comment
I would have to say Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News and in a complete shock to me, Wall Speedway regular is quite knowledgable. Sad we have to learn that under these circumstances.

What exactly does "mans man" mean? Wasn't that a village people song? Is it possible they both made a mistake? No wait I forgot Tony is incapable of such a mortal act.

Monkeyboy, I don't understand. Your father is a great guy. Who was a good friend to Bill Gardner, has always respected what Bill built here and has been one of the board's best contributors. Yet, all you've ever done is come here to smart off to people and cause trouble. You go to a lot of races, is that all you have to offer?

Only finger pointing at media . Please ?
|
Not at all. I just feel like the kid is getting railroaded. I think there's a possibility not all the blame can be laid at his feet. Which is what the popular consensus appears to be by all these "experts" on here. Throwing a guy under the bus who can't tell his side. As neon Deion says "C'mon man"

Re: A media comment
Sunday morning I turned on ESPN sports center to hear some female reporter say She couldn't believe Tony;s spotter didn't tell him that Kevin was on the track I was like REALLY :17:

Guess I am not surprised I just saw footage from Kevin Ward Jr.'s funeral on our local ABC affiliate here in Arizona. At least it was tastefully done.
