I have an idea.....

While making laps today in the grader I came up with a idea. Tell me what you all think.
I was grading dirt up from the very bottom of the track, the service road if you will, and as I kept bringing up more dirt from down there And as I got about 70 feet up from the bottom I thought hmmmm, we should have a race down there, it measures 1/4 mile on the bottom. So here is my idea.
The Switching Gears Nationals!!
A two day show....Friday we run a complete show on the 1/4 mile track and on Saturday back to the high banks 3/8ths.
$5000 to win each night and a $5000 bonus to win both nights. Maybe run tqs on Friday as a support class, since they like smaller tracks. The 1/4 mile has a little banking but not a lot. What do you all think about that?

Dave Rudisell 8/5/14 3:46 PM

This would be in 2015, and would try to have it around this time of year when the Friday night tracks are off.

Now thats an example of thinking outside the box.

Bring in some extra bumper tires for them light poles. Probably a good idea anyway.

Isn't that slate are are you talking grading some dirt down to it?

Would love it personally But there'd have to be a lip for someone willing to get up on it!

Are you serious on the payout?

dirt in ur beer 8/5/14 3:52 PM

I would add a temp wall around lightpoles and such...to make a safe track there...and there is dirt there...the lime base is way under.

Sure I am! But would need to charge maybe $25 a night admission, or a two day ticket for $40

badcoupe 8/5/14 4:02 PM

Very cool idea

Re: I have a idea.....

Depending on payout, it would be a 25 dollar ticket. I saw a lot of Summernationals Late Model races charge just 20 for $5,000 to win. A two day ticket deal is good...very good. 40 bucks for two days, is a steal with two 5K to win shows

Dave,

How about the MMSA lightning sprints running as the support class one night?

Newport13 8/5/14 4:24 PM

Ahhh, a funfest type event returns to the burg? I like it.

Great idea Dave .

I'd charge $10 a night and just see how many fans you can get in the place. I'm sure you'd sell enough hot dogs to make up the difference.

Ummm, no! We had a free admission night a few years ago and didn't even make enough money to pay the 1st place winner..

mlamb 8/5/14 4:57 PM

I certainly appreciate any track promoter thats working on their track mid week, as well as asking what we think about your ideas! Kudos Dave! I do have one question Dave (jokingly of coarse), Just how many laps on that grader did it take to come up with this idea? Lol

Dave

What is the song you like to sing the most when circling the track all by yourself sitting on top of that old grader. I do some of my best thinking and singing sitting on my old tractor knocking down them weeds that my wife refers to as Lawn.

I like the 1/4 mile track idea. Sprint cars are about the only thing around that have enough beans to look good on the big track.

If somehow you could get the outside about 3ft higher than the inside , I think it'd be great racing

Dick Gaines won many track championships on a quarter mile, He also won the Knoxville Nationals. Hint 2015 Hint. :)

mlamb 8/5/14 5:12 PM

With only 2 Friday night races left at Bloomington. And Gas City…will say at this point uncertain…why not try a Friday night non wing sprint show on the normal track?

Racer_dude35 8/5/14 5:17 PM

Dave great idea used to run the Burg on the 1/4 mile with TQ and Mini Sprints (Lightning Sprints) really brings little cars to life

racenut69 8/5/14 5:24 PM

Re: I have a idea.....

You could also run Karts as a support class..Just a thought.

Racer

What made the "Burg" fun was running right up on the edge of the race track no straight away in sight all the time fearing you would run over the edge and off of the race track and then passing whenever you got up enough nerve to drop off the bank and make a go of it.

I have never tried it but I have heard from competent authority that that is what they liked most about driving the "Old Burg"

I like this idea VERY much!

The sooner it happens the better.

And as "mlamb" said, Aug 15th and Sept 5th and the WoO show on Sept 29th is all thats left at Bloomington.

So a Fri/Sat show yet this year, would be AWESOME!

I'm there camped out if it happens.

badcoupe 8/5/14 8:05 PM

As a tq owner I would be there

I wish I only had to work on it midweek, Sunday 5 hrs, Monday 8hrs, Tuesday 7 Hrs. Everyday is a work on track day! Unless it rains, then it's work on other stuff day, lol. I wonder myself how many laps I make? I should put a transponder on. Lol

We'll check Speednet every night for results LOL :)

Dave, the burg has been my home track for over 50 years, and I am always glad to see ISW, any USAC show, the different memorials, Gaines, etc. and it would be a total thrill to see you bring in a multi-day show like that. You have the best facility bar none, with camping, plenty parking, nearby hotels & restaurants. Start with your idea, if it works expand it. The casino would love to see all those people in town with a couple hours of spare time between shows. Go for it, we'll support it.

openwheelfan1 8/5/14 11:45 PM

This is a great post for a couple of reasons. Here we have a track operator who actually works to prepare the track ahead of time as opposed to some who wait until the evening before or even the morning of to begin working the track. And two, we actually have a track operator who is also a promotor. IMO there are very few promotors today. Yes...being a promotor adds additional risk to an already risky business, but it also brings the opportunity for reward if done properly and with forethought.

My compliments to you Mr. Rudisell, for your tireless efforts on your facility and for your efforts to be not just a track operator but a promotor?

Steve

I'm sure that this is my first response to the burg having a 2 our 3 day show at the burg ( lol ) I think its great dave go make it happen and you will make a lot of racing fans happy. Pack the house at the burg.

Even if you don't us the 1/4 mile track have a doubleheader on the regular track. Fans are craving for a double at the Burg.
