It's time...

Andy is doing a great job with the Silver Crown division, but when you lose a driver like Christopher Bell because his team can't get info on upcoming races...

Over 5,000 members in a USAC Silver Crown facebook group. The interest is there, but the leadership and promotion from the very top is apparently pathetic.

I do wish Powri would step in and start a series for these cars, drivers, and teams

I think Powri should keep doing what they do. They don't need that headache.

We are 4 races into the season and we are back to this after one race where the car count is less than stellar. I for one am not just going to give up especially when the car counts on dirt continue to grow. The pavement side is struggling and I will not deny that, but we still have a long way to go. I love USAC, because of the history and I do not agree with every decision they make. Yet, everyone is entitled to an opinion. I also support PowrI and I think they put on one of the best shows for the money you pay.

I started the USAC Silver Crown from the beginning to today page on Facebook and I ask this one last time. Don't say it's over until it's over. See where we are at after Syracuse and then make your decision. I will continue to support this series because there's no life without champ cars for me. I love for the big cars.

:deadhorse::47: So I don't know which is more delusional. Your belief that there is wide spread interest in Silver Crown cars, or your belief that POWRi is the salvation for Silver Crown cars.

If USAC drops Silver Crown cars, there will be no one to pick them up. It will be the death nail for the big cars.

5,000 members on a facebook page.... it wasn't that long ago that there were 8,000 in the stands at DuQuoin. So you are wrong, there is a lot of interest out there for this series.

HRB, didn't you think that the post related to why Christopher Bell wouldn't be back was very concerning? I love these cars as well, haven't missed DuQuoin in 35+ years. Like the other poster said, I just hope USAC brass feels the same way as you do (and I) :6:

5,000 Facebook group members alone isn't a good measuring tool.

I can "join" a silver crown group... I can read what they post and look at pictures but if I don't buy a ticket to a race, what good is my "membership".

The same can be said for IOW. I can have 10,000 total members but if only 1,000 members participate by posting then I have a bunch of unused memberships and only 1,000 active members.

The most important thing for Silver crown events is ticket sales.

Didn't a group called PRA or something sanction pavement crown races when 80% of the car owners decided not to buy that new big track pavement car experiment? And didn't they have a huge car count at a race at IRP/ORP? The thing I don't remember is what kind of spectator turnout that series had during its brief existence.

The PRA deal isn't a good comparison. They tried to schedule weekday races in order to lure some of the NASCAR boys to help fill up the grandstands. It didn't take long before NASCAR was mandating their drivers to be at there tracks earlier in the week. The PRA was a shoestring operation and they needed some backers with money to make this happen. That never materialized and USAC hired Jason Smith & Jason McCord, the two principals in PRA, so that ended that experiment.

I attended some of the shows and they put on some decent racing. Good car counts and if they could of survived and built upon what they started, it might have worked. However, they needed a lot more sponsors, advertising and butts in the seats in order for that to happen. All things that money can help fix. A one year deal that went by the wayside.:13:

I was at one PRA @ IRP. Carl Edwards won and lapped the entire field if my memory is correct. Edwards, Stewart, Leffler and Ken Schrader were all there.

MileDirt, I agree with you 100%- it is time for POWRi to start a Champ Car division. Nothing makes for a quality product like good, old-fashioned competition.

Anyone remember that there once was competition for USAC in the NCRA? They ran a Champ Car division in the 80's, and it was a shot in the arm for the cars. At that time, the big cars were reeling with a lack of interest due to the fact that they were no longer a part of the Championship Trail. With the NCRA's involvement, interest was heightened. Suddenly, there were more events, and more seats for drivers to fill. There even developed a rivalry between the two sanctions, which increased fan interest.

Aren't all these consequences of a competing series exactly what us fans are looking for?
