Illinois Midget Week

Never been to any of these tracks before so i have a few questions. Will we be able to spend the night at all the tracks? What's the carry in policy, where should we sit? Anything else i should be aware of?

Not sure about Quincy since I haven't been there either. However, Lincoln, Macon and Belle Clair you will be able to camp in the parking lot at all three of these tracks. Carry in I believe is not a option at these three tracks. But plenty of area to tailgate and enjoy a liquid refreshment before and after the races. Also possibly during the running of the undercard as well. Enjoy the races. You won't be disappointed.:6:

No carry in at quincy . Always some campers overnight when the Hell Tour comes through town .

Not really abad seat at quincy . But closer to the middle the better for me at this track , seats have back rests. It's a nice racy track but I have never seen midgets there EVER. They tried years ago n got rained out . MOWA. And WAR non wing 2 weeks ago ,non wingers put on a better show than the lidded version . U set very close to the track ! I recommend a hat n glasses ! Popcorn is gd . No corn dogs ! (Girlfriend not happy about corn dog thing). This is my home track 20 mins from my house but I've driven to knoxville ia the last 3 weeks for my sprint car fix (6 hrs round trip). Anything else just ask. I'm headed to indiana for midget week n could use some information.

:3:First off, I am NOT a corn dog person. With that being said, someone else MUCH more knowledgeable about corn dogs will need to answer that one.:3:

For the Putnamville-Bloomington question, I would probably look at Cloverdale IN for a hotel. A short distance from Lincoln Park and still on the way to Bloomington. I am aware of a Motel 6 and also a Days Inn. Both look decent from the outside even though I personally haven't stayed at either one.

The Bloomington-Lawrenceburg question, I would look at Columbus IN. A number of motel chains in the area and it gets you away from Bloomington. With IU in Bloomington, a lot of summer activities book rooms there and the price seems high whenever I have to stay there. A few choices include La Quinta, Super 8, Days Inn and Courtyard.

Also another option would be to book something on the South side of Indy and just commute back and forth each day. Just a thought. Enjoy the races.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about Quincy and Lincoln. John and Bert from Australia are already camped at Quincy and joined us for our races tonight. Quincy doesn't have hookups, but a nice big parking lot. Next door is "Scotties Fun Spot" a skating/rink/go kart track/lazer tag place for the kids, but the Scott's built the track and ran it for years and are very supportive. Don't be shy about walking into Scotties on the other end of our parking lot to get a meal or a drink. They have everything from burgers to adult beverages.

If you roll into Quincy early, Dan our grounds keeper will be there off and on and will take care of anything you need. Don't be shy to ask. I think we were running power and water to John and Bert but can't do that for everyone. Dan can get the track toilets on for you etc if you ask. If you don't want to camp at the track, try Mark Twain Casino - one of our great sponsors in LaGrange, Mo just a bit down the road as they have a small RV park... as well as a full casino.

Let us know if you have any special requests. You can't carry anything into Quincy or Lincoln, but tailgaiting at both tracks is encouraged. We are here to help our visitors have a great time. Call me at 217-371-3653 if you need ANYTHING.

We look forward to seeing you Thursday and Friday.

Macon has a large parking area but no hook-ups.It is located in town so not sure if RV's are allowed to stay overnight but south of there about 25 miles, near Ramsey,Il. is a State Park that you can stay at on your way to Belle-Clair! Belleville has good food and cold beer, plus you can walk in and out of the gate whenever you want. (Hand Stamp & Stub)......Covered Stands on both sides, but the sun will be in your face if you sit on the Backstretch.

I've never been to Quincy, but the other three are outstanding midget tracks. These tracks know how to prep the track for midgets too. You won't leave disappointed.

You might have to wait for "fair season" for corn dogs. I overdose on those every August!

I thought the original schedule was for Jacksonville,so Thursday at Quincy Ill?

kdobson 6/2/14 5:36 PM

Re: Illinois Midget Week

Yes. Roughly a month ago we moved the Thursday show from Jacksonville to Quincy. It reaches a new fan base in the Western Illinois/Iowa/Missouri area who don't get to see midgets very often.

We rough if by sleeping in the van so i guess we are good to go on spending the night at the tracks. Is there any shade in the parking lots at any of the tracks or are they mostly wide open parking area's?

I usually stop by the BBQ stand at Macon.

dirt in ur beer 6/3/14 5:59 AM

Actually 2 gd ones . Riverside smokehouse , 222south 3rd st and Fat backs 901 n 24th. Riverside is nicer with a full bar n waitress service. Fat backs is buy it at the counter seat yourself, no alcohol . Both quite gd BBQ and priced similar. I know my BBQ , I'm a KCBS certified judge .

Any chance of LaSalle getting an IL midget week or separate POWRi race at some point?

I think midgets or non-wing sprints would put on a great show there, and it would be a draw for fans in northern IL, but don't know if there's a reason why it hasn't happened.

S2K, we live about 30-40 minutes from La Salle Speedway and they've tried several times to run midgets and wingless sprints. At one time they had a Bob Tattersall Memorial race there since Bob was from Streator, IL which is also 30-40 minutes from La Salle. It seemed they just couldn't get a decent car count and the crowd was pretty sparse as well. I believe the last time midgets ran La Salle they had 7 cars and the crowd was very thin.

However, we went to the MOWA winged show there last August and they had a good car count and a better than average crowd, as well. Only thing I can figure is the local sprint car guys have a large following that maybe the touring midgets and sprints don't bring with them.

La Salle is in the heart of dirt late model purgatory and it seems that tracks like Fairbury, Kankakee and La Salle won't draw cars or crowds for the open wheel genre.

Another good eating place to consider when you are in Quincy is a new restaurant called Chicks On The River at 236 N. Front Street. Not sure about their hours, but know they are open for lunch and through the evening. Ph (217) 222-5477. Mike Clark took us to eat at Chicks On The Square in Macomb, IL, last year and the food was terrific. They are popular for their "Lips" which are big, meaty chicken breasts hand cut in the shape of a chicken's beak, then hand battered and deep fried before being dipped in buffalo lip sauce or bbq lip gloss! We also tried a pizza and a chicken lip nacho dish, all of which were very good. Mike's daughter owns the restaurant and has had such a big success with the one in Macomb, they just expanded to the one in Quincy so I am excited about getting to go there. We are looking forward to it while on this racing tour. Hey, Mike -- you buying??? :5: Oh yeah, they also have a full bar, but then I don't know that that would matter to racing fans, would it? :32:

addictedtodirt 6/3/14 4:42 PM

Do any of the tracks have a signature concession item? I didn't get this body eating just lettuce.

dirt in ur beer 6/3/14 5:00 PM

I generally never make it past the popcorn but Macon has pretty gd pulled pork samiches ( the spicy sauce is truly spicy). They also have a lemonade shake up refill deal that's a gd deal .

How's the weather looking? I know you can't base a decision on the weather but coming this distance i always like to have an idea on temps and possible precipitation.

We expect to get a good amount of wet stuff from Tue night through Wed afternoon. After that things look dry and nice for Thurs. We should be fine Thurs and Fri.

Ogriffs brew house...Food is average bar food . I guess they have some craft brews idk . When I was a practicing raging alcoholic if it didn't taste like miller lite I wasn't interested ! Oh and answer my own question ... Gates open at 5
