He has been in cars that were fast, but no Space Balls!:kookoo
You asked! So he just gets older!
Joe

Where is he in BCRA points?
Western States USAC points? Want someone, Tony Hunt would be one.
Golden State points?
They have given up on him. He blames the rides!
He needs to step up or shut up! It will cost him his dollar now!

3 years ago he had a ride in the best West Coast Western Sprint car! It was a Beast Sprint car. Same owner anyone would die to drive for! Even Jimmy Sill's has lots of wins with them. He said it had no power! I do know there was nothing wrong at the time! That bad mouth does get around. Bad mouthing a ride! When it is the best car and owner on the West Coast! Next time have him keep his mouth shut! So show us what he has done out here!:rolling In fact this car owner could get what he needed at anytime from Bob East! That much pull!:headbang I been off this planet a very along time! SHOW us what he has done! The spies like to see.:angry-smiley-007:

I'm not sure why somebody has to be on a mission to deride a fine young talent like Gurney, Jr. Remember the old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." Maybe an envy or jealousy problem?

By the way, don't look now, but he won the ORP race last night:applaud:. Try to find fault with that.

Re: Gurney second quick on shoestring budget!!!!

He needs to prove himself! Last night he was a rabbit!:rolling
He hasn't raced against the BIG DOGS yet! Nothing like the Rim Rider. I was saying his big :D . He could have changed in the last 6 to 8 years.. Grown up a little. If I was going to pick a West Coast driver, I would pick Tony Hunt.:applaud:

AXE, wanted to know why! END OF STORY!

He has not proved himself yet. No car owner going to pick him up because of last night. Look at his record. End of story. Lets see what Winchester, Salem brings out. He needs to sell his record! TRUE? I'm I wrong? The sport is not getting cheaper!

Back then he was a KID, maybe, just maybe he has grown up now! Not getting any younger. In the six years he could have changed. They did give him a try! He was just out of the BOX back then.

That car owner is not on this planet any longer now. We miss his cars! His support of the sport! In fact he had an real Indy car also. A number one West Coast car owner. With many Championships. His drivers were the BEST! The kid had a go! Not taking his win away last night. What has he to show the last 6-8 years? He is a old man now! In fact Smoke called this car owner if he knew of any one out West! This is respect. I guess I don't have.:Steer

I am with you gasman.... Not every young driver of a legend has talent.......and I have to say JR. is lacking that. Nice win last night but even a blind squirl finds a nut now and then.

I would like to see Lil' Shu get a good shot and run some pavement.

Re: Gurney second quick on shoestring budget!!!!

hmmmmm i just gotta say it seems to me you people that are knocking chuck jr most likely have not talked to him in the last 6-7 years,or at all.
chuck moved to indiana taking a chance on living the dream and racing for a living,he left here on great terms with the car owners here.
he proved to be a winner here at a place thats reguarded as one of the toughest weekly show in northern california,he has won at placerville and chico so to say he dont got it is a false statement.
he now is running his own car as money permits and when not doing that he is wrenching his friend to main event wins,so give the guy some respect and maybe go talk to him and then form an opinion before defaming him on here.
chuckie congrats on last night and keep on gettin er done.

I'd have to put myself in the neutral category when it comes to being a Chuck Gurney, Jr. fan/non-fan. But, I do know what I saw last night at IRP (and, no, I didn't mean ORP). And that was that Darren Hagen had the chance to catch CGJ in Keith Kunz power and Kasey Kahne had his shot at him, on the last restart and we know what kind of equipment KKR has. Both top level pavement drivers, driving for very, very good race teams. And the fact is, Chuck won the Midget feature without really ever being seriously challenged, after the initial start. It was an impressive run. Nearly as impressive as the thumping that Bobby East would put on the entire field, later in the program.

Amen, Jerry. As an aside, the thumping East put on the SC field was in a backup car no less. Ouch!

The car owner has lived a long life he has pass on! In fact Chuck, drove for him many times! He bought Bud Keadings engines for him when Bud went back there to race.:applaud: It cost Bud lots of money to get his foot in that door! There is that word RESPECT!
One of jr's first rides? I think.

So if any kid wants to dream driving a race car, respect is the word! You keep your mouth shut! You don't

tell a car owner that it doesn't have it!:headbang When it does!

Does this help Seadog?

Now show us JR. Resume! What has he done in 6 to 8 years?

We all know it a lot of money to put a top sprint or midget out there.
If one was watching lap times most midgets were =last night.
Joe

The reason I pick Tony Hunt was he was a floor sweeper! He was that hungry.:applaud: Do I like paying $100,000 for a years ride No! Driver supplied motor!

CGJ Ran a great race! Let see how things go!! I don't know either driver, just looking at records. Do I support pavement racing, no. Have been to the real Coper at PIR lots of time and PPIR if you know where that was. I was just up set with AXE. This did happen with he was really young!

Re: Gurney second quick on shoestring budget!!!!

Gasman...if you would hire Tony Hunt and not CGJ cause of his record look at the number of Top 5's Tony has on the West Coast this year in his 7 starts.....0 and has pulled off of the track the first three races complaining of motor problems. I like both drivers but sometimes the grass isn't too much greener on the other side.

Let see CGJ's resume or press binder. What has he won? In the last 8 years. So, someone would want to pick him up. Can anyone help this young man?:thumb

Re: Gurney second quick on shoestring budget!!!!

Give it up, Joe... You've made it very clear that you don't like Gurney, Jr. And you've also made clear that you're willing to continue to beat this dead horse.....over, and over, and over, and over, and over,.... ad infinitum.... It proves to me that you're probably a lot smaller person with some kind of axe to grind, rather than a fan who appreciates any and all open wheel racers and their accomplishments.

So what if Gurney doesn't have a bunch of championships on his resume - like Moose says, he's won races at Placerville, Chico, and ORP...where have YOU won races or championships?

Can you please go away? I'd almost wish that you'd start reposting your water into gas drivel than this crap....almost.....:thumbsdown:

And you should probably change your username from gasman50 to GASBAG50.... it would fit better!

Lewis1585 7/25/08 9:13 PM

Re: Gurney second quick on shoestring budget!!!!

You don't beat Kasey Kahne let alone the whole field at ORP on luck!! It takes a lot of talent. ORP is the hardest pavement track in the country to be fast on and to get your car working right.

WAY TO GO CHUCK

This is the reason message boards CAN be bad news.

I don't usaully get involved on responding to posts because it gets you know where.

BUT for the record Gasman please DO NOT ASSOCIATE me with your negative rant. I appreciate your nod ....but your not making any sense.

Chuck and I are friends and there are a lot of guys and girls that deserve opportunities.

Congrats Chuck ... very deserving !!

Very nice first post Tony Hunt and BTW good luck for the rest of the year! Congratulations to Chuck Gurney Jr.

Re: Gurney second quick on shoestring budget!!!!

First of all Contrats Chucky Jr on a great win!! Second, I hate comparing JR's to their famous fathers. Different era, different situations. I worked for Chuck Sr back in the day and he was a hell of a driver. Now Jr is doing his thing as best he can with what he has. All drivers say stuff or do things on the track that they regret later. It happens we are all human. I'm almost positive that if you ask Chuck Sr, Jr, Tony Hunt or the origainal Gasman RG they will each have "if I could do it over again" strories. So tip your hat to a great job well done and move on........
