Looks like a great opportunity for everyone to run for very good money! I read that Phil Heavelow and Mark Billings are definitely going to make the trip from Missouri. Hopefully all of the Lightning Sprint racers come out and support this and take home some $$$$

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

Payout is better than some full size sprint car purses! Thank you Henderson Chevrolet and Western Kentucky Trucking as well as MMSA and Western Kentucky Speedway!! Lightning sprints are the best value in racing...hands down. Lap times comparable to full size sprints, for fractions of the cost. And our shows run quicker being self starting.

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

probably the best thing is the purse structure, with a purse that large we usually see a big win number and the purse drops off rapidly as the finish position falls off. A 20th would pay a big part of our travel expenses. Thanks to Western Kentucky Trucking and Henderson Gmc Chevy for supporting this race. We need more of these people and it is all tax deductible as an advertising expense, a kinda of win win deal.

This is also Allen Rupenthal country If we survive Brownstown we will sure be trying to get down there.

This is a really good deal and if we have car count there will be many shows like this! Really excited to be apart of the mmsa series this year and looking forward to having another good year!

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

This is a hell of an opportunity for you guys that live anywhere close to that area. You really need to support this effort. Especially since it could lead to additional well paying races. Hard to beat a purse like this in our class up to this point. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come for Lighting Sprints. Mark and I are both excited to be part of it. While not this race, MALS is co-sanctioning some races with MMSA to present some additional better paying races later this year in Illinois, Indiana as well as Missouri and Kansas. Hope some of you can also attend those. Weather permitting.........see ya at Western Kentucky to start with!

I am extremely excited to start this year off. This is great news and should make for a great show and car count. Hope to see a bunch of cars there!!

Is that the bridge that was closed the last time we went down there. We been thinking about trying to get reservations at the "Ambrose Trailer park" or just camping out at the race track. That is how we did it at "Brown County Speedway" in Ohio and US 24 Speedway in Logansport In. Come to think about it that Logansport guy ran a trailer park also right next to the race track. Nothing like getting up when the sun does, stepping outside the truck to do your business and hitting the road looking for the first greasy spoon and breakfast.

Racing at it's best!!!!

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

Hope the weather starts looking better.............

My question for someone familiar with the area. What's the best way to get there from the KC area? I don't need the directions to the Mount Vernon, Illinois area........just on from there. Google Earth has me going down a bunch of two lane highways from Mt. Vernon. I hate two lane highways. If I can't run 80-85.......I ain't happy. I prefer to be happy when I reach the track. Besides, the Google path looks like way to many small towns that already have a speeding ticket with my name on it. Is it better to go on to Evanville? Down through Madisonville and double back? Which is the best way? Not necessarily the shortest............the fastest. Plus the safest. Little two lanes make me nervous. Especially at 80-85 mph pulling a race trailer.

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

Yes, come on to evansville,in---south to madisonville,ky...yes dad, we are gearing lower---2 drag strips, with a high bank turn on each end...could be wrong. Straights like brownstown, but lot tighter turn

Looks like weather is passing through Madisonville right now, I don's see much south and west of them. Sure wish they could improve on that 30% chance though.

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

Anybody live close enough to the track to be able to here the local forecast? At least off of some station that is close? Looks encouraging that it has been reduced to 30% but is something else supposed to develope as the day goes along saturday?

FYI.............Wonderful weather jerks around here in Kansas City predicted 80% with heavy/severe storms all day yesterday, then changed it to last night. Funny thing..........the east side of KC got nothing yet. Good job people.

Re: $5000 purse Lightning Sprints

Guess they were using discretion in their decision to postpone the MMSA and still be racing other classes. Thinking about the haul involved for us to race there with a good chance of rain sounds like smart thinking to me, that will prevent us from wasting at least $200.00 in gasoline. I was hoping to look up some old WKU friends that live down there but I guess it can wait for a couple of weeks to do that.

When they see the near midget speed of these things I bet they invite us back again. I can't wait to try that place out.
