USSA Sprints at Anderson on Sunday
On Sunday, you have the opportunity to see an endangered species at Anderson Speedway: a pavement non-wing sprint car race. This race is one of only six non-wing pavement sprint car races in the state of Indiana this year.
Yes, Sunday, April 27th is the date for the 15th annual Glen Niebel Classic featuring the USSA Sprint Cars and Kenyon Midgets. The sprint cars will conclude the day by running a 100 lap feature. Last year's "Niebel Classic" featured a quality field of 22 sprint cars with Aaron Pierce taking the checkered flag. I expect a decent car count this year as well with teams tuning up for next month's Little 500. *Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Qualifying starts at 12:20 p.m. Racing starts at 2 p.m. *Admission is $12 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children 5 years old and under get in free. |

Some of the names on the entry list for the sprint cars include:
Jarrett Andretti Caleb Armstrong Jason Fuller Grant Galloway Matt Goodnight Garrett Green Kyle Hamilton Jojo Helberg Joe Liguori Anthony McCune Chris Neuenschwander Aaron Pierce Travis Welpott And I'm sure there will be more cars and names that will be there that plan on running the Little 5. |

Re: USSA Sprints at Anderson on Sunday
Pretty good race. Armstrong got Pierce loose going into turn 3 with about 15 laps to go. Armstrong was able to get underneath Pierce to take the lead. Pierce made a couple runs at Armstrong and tried to rattle his cage, but was not able to get close enough. After the race, Pierce was none too happy with Armstrong, showing his frustration at him by bumping into his car and giving him a salute. Looked like there might be an altercation between the two in the pits, but security got between them and took a hold of the situation after a few harsh words were exchanged.
Also, want to give congrats to Travis Welpott for finishing a solid 3rd and running with the leaders all day. Also, Jarrett Andretti did a nice job after starting 15th and was running 3rd until a few laps to go when he got loose and got into the infield, which cost him one spot. Andretti probably had the fastest car on the track, but was unable to get around the top two. Just wish there were a few more cars there and more fans. Although, the fan count was up from last year due to the perfect weather conditions today. Overall, a good show! :6: |
Re: USSA Sprints at Anderson on Sunday
One down, five to go........
Wish there were more. |
Re: USSA Sprints at Anderson on Sunday
So what has happened to this race? Used to draw cars from all over.

If that's how the kid is going to race guys, he better not be surprised when it comes back to bite him in the butt! I expect a long month of May for that kid. There are people that absolutely will not put up with that! He'll be sitting up against the concrete in a trashed out race car if he continues with that style... |

He also tried for several laps to get to Pierce...and got him too! It wasn't a loss of brakes! USSA should have at least put him to the tail.... |

Howdy, people...long time no see :10:.
WELLLLL....I still poke my head in here from time to time, and while I have been successful in ignoring the foolishness... in this case, I can't help myself. See, some of you folks are just plain silly! So, forgive me in advance for interrupting these self-righteous rants with facts, BUT... 1) Caleb DID, in fact, lose his brakes. I'm sure Kevin would welcome all of you nay-sayers and/or psychics to come out to the shop to help him fix them. That is, if you're inclined to pursue ACTUAL evidence (facts) for your Nancy Drew (or Nancy Grace) "mystery". LoL 2) Could Caleb have pulled in when he lost brakes? Uh, yeah I suppose, BUT...um, he IS a race car driver. LoL Let's see..... Caleb kind of knows his way around Anderson a little bit (grew up 20 mins from there and has raced there PLENTY), knows how to at least "manage" a lack of brakes (this wasn't his first rodeo), had a plenty fast race car (quick time) and was running for a podium spot AT WORST. Sooooo...yeah, I'm pretty sure Caleb Armstrong isn't the only driver out there who *might* have chosen to stay out and give 'er a go with ALL of THOSE things considered. C'mon now...let's keep it real. 3) Now if you experts REALLY knew Caleb, you would know that not only has he won a few *little* races here and there without "punting" anyone, but he also (and often) has graciously and gladly finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th...and 44th in even MORE races...even in races where his car was plenty fast and he probably "should" have run closer to the front. In other words, he's hardly known for "manufacturing" his finishes at the expense of others. Actually, the REAL "experts" on Caleb know this FACT: When Caleb DOES decide to take a "gamble"...it's either gonna be specatacular OR...any "carnage" to-be will come at HIS OWN expense lol. 4) Caleb's family has known Aaron for YEARS, as has Kevin (Caleb's crew chief, in case the "experts" need clarification). Armstrongs have done LOTS of business with Aaron's family, and Kevin raced (and rubbed wheels!)with Aaron for many years back in the day. Therefore, it stands to reason (for the reasonable lol) that Aaron Pierce is not exactly the first guy on the "hit list" of ANYONE at C&A Motorsports EVER, much less for a "W" at a 15 car race on a Sunday afternoon at Anderson Speedway. Puh-leeeaase. 5) As noted (repeatedly), Caleb didn't mean to "tangle"with THE LEADER, Aaron Pierce, so he MOST CERTAINLY would not have intentionally initiated contact (or NEED to?) with someone named, "Neuenschwander" (sorry, I'm personally not familiar with that person). No bandwagon jumping needed. 6) And lastly, a nit picky FACT:No "security" was needed to break up ANYTHING between Aaron and Caleb. Yes, Aaron was unhappy so he came down and said a few words (and no, by all accounts, they weren't horrible, awful, terrible, scary words either lol) to Caleb...then, Aaron kept it moving. PEOPLE, Aaron didn't need "security" to control himself..give him some credit lol. Maybe that was because Aaron may know deep down inside that Caleb didn't bump him with malice? OR PERHAPS, was it because Aaron decided to keep it a little classier than some of you have chosen to? Hard tellin'...at least for me, a chick who doesn't claim to be an "expert" on the thoughts and motivations of other humans (in the absense FACTS, or even an actual conversation with said humans). Toodles...oh, and to all of my pals...as you can CLEARLY see, I'm totally still watching you LoL xoxoxoxo Lauren (IOW stalker) |
Agreed. I wish I could 'triple like'.
I was in the pits, and spoke to Kevin directly. He told me that the brakes were 'gone' very early. Said that the car had not been run in 3 or 4 years. Anderson PD was there, waiting and watching. Nothing happened though. It's as if they expected something....... |

I have watched caleb race for years, and I have never seen him dump a person on purpose.. He's smarter and a hell of a lot better than that.. Caleb in my opinion should be in the nascar feeder series in the next few years

Re: USSA Sprints at Anderson on Sunday
The first thing you do when you loose your brakes on a fast little joint like Anderson is park the thing. What if somebody spins and you T bone them and kill them.Do you say aw hell it's ok I didnt have any brakes!

Plus, the idea that everyone in front of him held perfect lines so he didn't have any MAJOR "challenges" to his lack of brakes is just silly. Quit with the dramatics. That being said, let's stick with FACTS again: Many, if not MOST, drivers race races, finish races, AND WIN RACES with cars that are less than optimal in handling. "The perfect car" for the start of a race, MUCH LESS for the DURATION of a race, is a rarity...if that were the case, all of us Internet Geniuses would be trying to win RACES, not message board squabbles. Instead, the reality is that race car drivers are such BECAUSE they can overcome the "habits" of these finicky, often evil machines. Race drivers ROUTINELY deal with wicked set-ups out of the box that they have to muscle the distance, OR they FREQUENTLY have to combat the inevitable SNAFUS that arise as the laps go on, such as "failing" steering, shocks (or brakes!) or burned off tires (just a few of 2304829348203 examples). Therefore, your "argument" would suggest that on any given night that like...75% of the race cars should pull in and "just park it". Uh, okayyy... I just find this whole debate comical at this point. It's not even a REAL debate..it's far more personal than that OBVIOUSLY. After all, I can't even count the number of times that we've seen drivers "move" a car that is "in their way" or who is slower etc.... and more often than not, those drivers are "celebrated" or "defended" as being quintessential tough competitors. Ya know, "those guys" are there to WIN, they are aren't dudes who just wanted a sticker for showing up.....yay them! Yet, in this case, with "THIS group" who raced Sunday, despite it now being obvious (or should be!) that there was no premeditated intent in the contact etc., a car who got bumped loose (NOT put on the hook) is pretty much the end of the world. Sounds to me like THE TRUTH probably is that some of you folks aren't really mad that Caleb Armstrong "crashed" (bumped) anyone ...instead, you appear to be actually be mad because Caleb Armstrong showed up and crashed "your" pavement sprint car party. Sorry, folks... he'll be there all year...or at any race track where there is a race to be had and he has a car to run. :6: |
Know for a fact that it isn't beneath Aaron pierce to do the same thing so don't know what his problem is. Same excuse he had too
|
Wonder where all the cars were. Just reread the posts. Hoss90 be glad you left the series. It is not fun like it was. I wish my pavement car was gone. After reading the last three days I'm ready to park it, and sunday didn't cost me anything.

Re: USSA Sprints at Anderson on Sunday
First of all, glad to see you back Lauren even if for just one post. I for one miss seeing your detailed, logical posts in this crazy world. Don't be a stranger. I now know someone is looking over my shoulder.:3: Lurker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
Anderson Speedway to my knowledge has always had local police providing sercurity during the racing season. Rick Dawson, owner of the speedway, has done this since he has taken over. Before that, I believe that the previous owners also provided security in case of trouble. Though I was standing at the fence up above, I saw Aaron go over and say something to Caleb but the conversation was brief and it certainly didn't look like security had to do anything. Drivers always seem to work out their issues and I am sure that these two will also. I would think that they have a great deal of respect for one another. |
