Du Quoin Indoor Rescheduled

Due to the extreme weather conditions now predicted for this weekend the Showdown has been rescheduled for March 28th & 29th. With Freezing rain, snow and below freezing temps creating dangerous travel conditions as well as poor conditions inside the Southern Illinois Center, we feel it would be in everyones best interest to run this event the last of March.
If you pre entered and cannot attend on the new date, Please contact us my e mail and we will send you a refund. otherwise your Pre entry and pit spot will carry over to the March event.

Thanks,
Steve Nace

The curse of the "Al Archdale Memorial Race" goes on>and On.

Does anybody want to buy a cheap non-refundable room at the Super 8 for Friday and Saturday?

We are rapidly becoming a nation of weenies. Unless things are perfect, we can't do anything. We spent a lot of time effort and money to get ready for this deal. I suspect there are a lot of us with those hotels this weekend.

Re: Du Quoin Indoor Rescheduled

Extreme? the Weather Channel is forecasting a high of 32 Friday and Saturday, lows of 16 and 23. Cold, sure. But extreme? Isn't cold weather the prime motivator for running indoor shows?
IMRA is scheduled to run at 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA March 29th, which will siphon off quite a few potential entries. Montpelier starts up the following week so I'm going to be focusing on getting ready for the regular season, as will others, I would imagine.
Dad, reserving a non-refundable room at a Super 8 doesn't end up being so cheap, does it?

i think steve nace is probably talking about the weather on the east coast seeing how its snowing from georgia to maine and as far west as ohio along the whole east coast..... im not sure how that affects illionois if there part of this same weather or maybe he has confirmations from drivers pre entered saying the weather is keeping them from making it. especially if there looking to get guys to travel there from all over. im sure theres a reason why its postponed not just for the hell of it, but it does stink its such short notice for guys like DAD who have hotels rooms they have already paid for.

Re: Du Quoin Indoor Rescheduled

All week long had posts about the great weather and high pre-entries. One day before the event it's postponed. Doesn't seem right to me. Wasn't even attending, but I'm feeling for those of you that booked hotels that have the "for full refund, cancellation must be made 7 days before arrival" statement. Hope it doesn't rain March 29...oh wait, it's an indoor show.

Tom23 2/13/14 5:09 PM

If you were that concerned about the weather, why in the hell would you schedule in the middle of February? Something does smell funny, I don't think I will worry to much about the end of March. There are other options.

Guy's

Won't be my first or last time that I take a bath on a hotel room I hope. I know for sure we will be ready in March and I bet Steve will too. We got an extreme weather alert for Louisville for this weekend also. On my last trip to Du quoin it started sleeting just as the race was over. Halfway back I lost control of the trailer and ripped the front axil out from under the trailer. If he is thinking about the racers as well as himself more power to him.

That should also give a few more racers time to get their cars back together to run for that big purse.

This curse on the Archdale Memorial race can not possibly go on for much longer, can it?

Hope we end up with a hundred + cars next time.

I mostly just read on here and dont comment too much, but if I had to guess word on the street was a lot of the 600 guys were worried about the cost of entry. With a $95 post entry, $30 for a pit stall and then still buying a pit pass for just the driver some family teams diddnt want to make the trip. So im thinking he might of also saw the writing on the wall that he wasnt gonna make near as much money as he thought. I know no one is in racing to make money but thats a little steep for some entry's, and now some of the people who were gonna travel to race are out there hotel rooms. I'd be hard up to race before I gave this man another dime of my money.

Somewhere on IOW the pre-entry car count was given and they seemed to be satisfied with that. The car numbers were down but car numbers are down everywhere. I love to race but I don't get real excited about pulling a trailer 300 miles in snow and ice.

I'm not in the loop with the 600 guys but it was my understanding that pits in the quanset hut were free and inside the arena it was $30.00 per pit.

I learned a long time ago it is not wise to beat up on a race promoter or track owners. They do do us a service, and just looking over Steve's website lends me to believe he is indeed doing many racers of many different class's a service. Guess he could just replace the 600 cars with go karts or motorcycle's if racing under a big old roof is too expensive for them. But I doubt that to be the case.

26 non wing and 18 wing 600s pre entered going for $500 to win. 18 lightning sprints going for $2000 to win. Doesn't look to me like the 600 guys had a problem with the entry fees.

I hate it for you guys that had hotels and everything planned, but I've had this kind of thing happen a lot over the years. It's one of those things that pop up with what we do. You can't dog on a promotor too much though - especially when he's putting in the effort to put together an event like this for us. I hope everybody shows up in March because this sounds like an absolute blast. I'll be there ready for whoever wants to come play. Can't wait.

I officially retract my earlier skepticism/cycnicism (above), as we are now getting the Winter Weather Advisories that must've gotten to Illinois first. On the radar it doesn't look like a particularly big storm, but with enough potential snow/ice mix to make travel marginal.
I hope the rescheduled date doesn't conflict with season openers enough to cause a problem with car counts; I'd like to see it be successful and continue and would give serious consideration to entering if my car were finished and the bugs ironed out. I know IMRA is running that Saturday as I already mentioned, not sure of others. If I'm not up to my elbows putting the finishing touches on my car I plan on at least coming out to help support the front gate.

Bring the car on out. I have always liked these special races to try out new stuff at because no body has an upper hand at these races. Everybody is guessing heck you might guess right. Racing is like getting married and having kids, If you wait until everything is all figured out and you have enough money to do it right you ain't never going to do it.

One of my favorite saying is "Close enough for Government Work", get her close and come on down.

Normally I don't respond to all the negativity posted when something like this happens. However most of you don't know me and I don't know you. We have been creating, promoting and producing Mini Sprint, Motorcycle, ATV & Kart racing events for over 22 years. Do we do everything right, absolutely not. However we do take everything into consideration when cancelling or re scheduling an event. Based on the changing weather conditions, predicted for Du Quoin for this weekend, and after many conversations with the key people involved , it was decided this would be the call to make. This was not some big conspiracy. All refunds requested, Which their were very few, have already been taken care of. Either credited to your card or checks mailed out today. While I am sure some of you had expenses that can't be recovered, Im pretty sure it cost no one as much as the promoter when this happens. Which is a chance we take and accept. If you had a motel room in the area that will not give you a refund on your room and you cancelled it yesterday, Please contact me and I will take care of it. Hopefully enough of you will be able to attend the March event to make it a successful enough event for it to happen again next Winter. Hope to see you in March.

Steve - it is a thankless job being a promoter. Living in Missouri I know the weather heading that way is just now heading through here. There wasn't many entries from my area but with the change of dates I think you will pick up a few now. Not sure if I personally will be ready but it should be close by then. I hope it goes off in March without a hitch.

Like my daddy said "I LIKE YOUR STYLE" . From talking with you I am pretty sure you are "legit". We probably have 100+ cars in a 400 mile radius of Du Quoin. Everybody wants a big race for the 1200-1000cc full midget bodied race cars. You have the perfect venue for such an event.

I see all of us getting rid of the wings for most of our races in the future, maybe inviting a few other closely related Midget bodied classes such as Kenyon Midgets, Echotecs midgets, and Focus midgets into one larger class and still having a very affordable and fun open wheel race class. Maybe Du Quoin could be used to help bring them or some of them together.:)

Dad,
What you're suggesting is exactly what groups like IMRA, Wayne Davis' bunch in Florida and Montpelier Motor Speedway are endorsing, and I feel strongly is the way to go in the future for those of us who prefer to run non-wing. But I don't want to hijack the post by going too far down that rabbit trail...
Steve, I apologize for getting sucked into the negative vortex and I wish you nothing but success; if I get the car far enough along by the 29th to give it a shot I'll make every effort to support you. My main focus is to run the full season at Montpelier, but if the car's not far enough along to bring it to Du Quoin but close enough I can spare the time I'll be there in the stands.

All great minds think alike! Took me forever to get Wayne to drop the LIGHTNING and pick up MIDGET. If we just think about it a little the big kicker is how we get power to the rear wheels. I tend to think that FWD might be the way to go.:3:;):10:

Slid off my driveway into a ditch going home last night. Got up to 11 degree temp and un plowed roads this morning. No way that trailer and hauler would have made it off my hill in one piece last night. I sure am glad I didn't have to white knuckle it down I-64 last night also.

Thank you Steve Nace!

Thanks ! Glad you made it home safe. I want to thank everyone ( 99% anyway)for your understanding in the rescheduling of this event. Kelly or I attempted to contact everyone that had pre entered both by phone and e mail. The majority of you were great. I was contacted by someone that their refund had not been credited to his card yet. Most of the time it takes a couple of buisness days. Please contact me the first of the week if you have not recieved your credit.

Hope to see you in March.

Glad some of you backed up a little on Nace! We have run jrs sprints at his kart shows at duquoin for the last 4years! Steve is a good man...I know how some promoters are but this guy is truly good people! Hope to see a good turnout in march....I know it will be hard for some with the summer racing starting in April...but if the car count is good mabey next winter we will have a place closer than Tulsa to race! It take a positive attitude from the racers and the promoter to make a good show!
