This is great to see. I had a conversation with another track owner a couple years ago at Chili Bowl and said that if a weekly track would pick up the midgets, even a couple races a month, that I felt midget racing would grow again in IN. First Montpilier and now Gas City. Any midget owners, I wouldn't mind doing some double duty when I'm there with the 10e! Also don't forget that I put together a contingency program for the dirt tracks in IN. The midgets at Gas City and Montpilier would fall under this. If you need info, e mail me at jcoons@impactraceproducts.com

midget's and sprint's ?

Interesting... It's good to see even more midget racing coming back. It should help Montpelier on Saturdays and Gas City on Fridays. Good stuff!!!

I don't see anything yet on the Gas city website about Midgets, or the 2014 schedule at all for that matter; does anyone know if they will be using Montpelier rules (i.e., Mini Sprints welcome)? If so, I welcome the opportunity to run more often; if not, well, good luck in your new venture.

They posted an article in our local paper saying midgets were going to be in the weekly show.

Jerry We read about the news in the Kokomo Tribune on Wed. As far as the stands (another post) I am pretty sure the city of Gas City would not allow the upgrade. Had I not read this I would have never put it on the site.

That is great news. For years there have been conversations among fans about the desire for more midget racing in Indiana and the positive effects this would have. I am so happy to see that now there will be two nights a week. I hope that midget owners support these races. I look forward to attending them.

Just read the Kokomo Tribune article (http://www.kokomotribune.com/sports/...th-fresh-ideas), and it sounds like things are still in the planning stage, very much like over at the Speedrome; "Trophy Dashes, midgets on a weekly basis and a different plan of attack are just a few things that new promoter Mel Botkin has in mind for his first season at the Gas City I-69 Speedway". Hopefully a schedule/rules package will be out soon. Until then, I'm sure the IOW Rumor Mill will have plenty to say on the subject :44:

Only problem for me, it is just too far to drive, see a race and drive back home.

I heard you were promoting the midget division and guaranteeing $1500 to win.

So are they ever going to post a tentative schedule at least? Some of us have to plan out our season a little in advance to secure rides and m make travel arrangements. It sure would help to have this released soon or I may just have to start filling in other races for Friday night.

I'll remember this comment when there's a big race coming up at Haubstadt. :D

P.S. For the record, I'm close to halfway between Gas City and Haubstadt.

Little bit of a difference between $1500 to win MIDGETS and $300-500 to win "midgets"...both take a LOT of work, a LOT of money to run, and you gotta let them both "dangle" some tho (no form is a joke, just hate seeing lower paying shows replace high paying shows)...IMHO...

Re: Gas City 2014

Is there any weekly midget shows out West tho? Would this be the ONLY WEEKLY midget (of any form) show in the country???

Sprints and Midgets weekly may get me to Gas City more than two or three times a year.

(In our effort to support the prestigious track, we are in search of partners to get 2-3 cars on the track in multiple divisions).

4classes for midget week . 5 classes for sprint week . WOW .

Re: Gas City 2014

I will tell you right now Mel was one of the first people to talk with Josh our first night at Gas City, KISS show 55 sprint cars and he owned a car but still took the time to talk with Josh, Sarah and I making us feel like it was just another night, from that night on we pitted next to his car with his driver John Wolf, the whole team made our first year at Gas City a little easier as did a bunch of people.

What I am trying to say is Mel cares for people and believes in Gas City Speedway to the point he has taken the track under his wing, not sure who will be back from the past as they treated us like gold also but I do know from past experience Mel will treat us all the same with the goal of putting on the best show for the drivers, fans and everybody involved.

We can not wait to roll thru the gates at Gas City in 2014

Pat,
I clicked the Facebook link on the track's website and asked there; the response was they aren't affiliated with the track, didn't know antything about the rules and hadn't had contact with the new promoter. So, heads-up, anyone assuming you'll get reliable info for Gas City on Facebook...
I'm going to give one of the contact numbers on the website a call, will report back.

Saw on Facebook yesterday that their page was going to be put in vacation mode because the new promoter had not contacted or assumed the page up to this point. They probably will just open a new page and start fresh. We'll see.

I must've woken somebody up at the Facebook page; wish I could do the same with someone in an actual position to address this topic!

I tried calling the numbers on the website; (765) 674-6135, got a recording saying they were closed for the season, call (765) 499-7003. Haven't gotten through on that number yet, may be a signal issue here at work (shh!).
Tried the second number on the site, (765) 384-7285, it's disconnected.

Maybe someone who knows Mel could let him know there's a couple of guys out here who'd love to know if they can run their Montpelier-legal rides in his Midget series...

jjones752 2/25/14 12:26 PM

Re: Gas City 2014

I got through on the (765) 499-7003 line, turns out it's the old promoter's number; he said go to gascityi69speedway.org for the correct contact info; that's the link already published in this thread, where I got these numbers. gascityi69speedway.com is an exact duplicate of .org.
I don't mean to sound impatient; if Mel's as good a guy as Jerry says, I'm sure it'll all get worked out. That being said, posting a schedule on a website with outdated contact information may have been a little premature...

Mels # is listed under the Race Receiver Post on main page (765) 717-1817

Thanks for that info; it is kinda buried. He should probably update the other numbers too, or if the track phone is still valid, at least replace the second (disconnected) number with a valid number that is reachable in the off-season. And update the message on the track phone so guys like me don't keep calling the old promoter...:6:
