Cheap shot Sammy
Sammy showed what he does best..... Drive over his head, slid up hit the brakes and hold up everyone behind him. His slid and break on Christopher Bell tonight at the Chili Bowl was so obvious. Guess it worked cause his son was then able to pass and finish second. Total BS.... Never was a big Swindell fan now I remember why.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
I have always been a Sammy Fan, really disappointed with that cheap shot on Chris Bell. Sammy was in the way, a lap down, show some courtesy. What an arrogant a$$. I lost all respect for the Sammy.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
None of the restarts should have had Sammy start up with the NATURALLY LAPPED CARS. He should have been put to the tail period as he did not complete that lap and the rest did.
|
Re: Cheap shot Sammy
I agree he should have been put on the tail or made to pull off completely.
|
Sammy is a wine ass. He came over at Larson trailer and was complaining to Kyle's girlfriend about it what a ass.
|
Re: Cheap shot Sammy
To top it off , Kevin complains that he really never had a chance after his prelim night.

Just look at the Swindell family and then the Clausen family. You will find both ends of the class spectrum. At the bottom showing no class at all is the Swindell boys and at the top being classy and gracious is the Clausen men. I watched Kevins post race interview and all of my opinions were proven to be facts for me. I guess he was so upset for not getting a fair chance to win again that he forgot to congratulate the man that beat him. Grow the f### up!!
I bet there's about 260 other drivers there that would of been thrilled to be dealt the same cards as he was. Good thing I was stuck at home or I may have gone all Shane Cottle on him! |
Re: Cheap shot Sammy
You don`t mean slammin Sammy!
|
By the way I forgot to say, Great job to Christopher Bell. I score you as a second place and think with less yellows you would have been there to challenge BC for the win. Excited about this year in the Team 6R Silver Crown car.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
I have no idea what Sammy was doing up there with the leaders in the first place, he drove through the infield and should have been at the rear of the pack/ it was obvious to me that he would take advantage of being up there by interfering with as many top runners as possible to see that his other car (son kevin) won, or finished as high up as possible (that's just the kind'a guy that he is!)
|
I personally felt a little cheated as a fan when Sammy was taken out of contention (it was a racing deal). Also everyone wants to continue to bash the swindells. They race midgets once a year and are the cars to beat. If someone doesn't like how they race do something about it, feed them a wheel. What is way more troubling to me is what the chili bowl has become. Fans at home watching it can't see it, but it is way out of hand. Outside of going on a vacation, but I haven't figured out why people bring their cars to race. If you don't bring a specialized chili bowl specific car you're wasting your time. Sure there are a few exceptions, Hines and messaraul put theirs in the show, but they aren't going to win. The lengths and dollars a lot of teams are going to for one race is astronomical, you would think some of the teams have nasa sponsoring their efforts. And that brings me on to the event itself. Yeah it's a really cool deal. Fantastic racing, checkers or wreckers style, can't take anything away from the show that it puts on. But 10,000 to win? Really? It could be 100,000 to win and they would still laugh their way to the bank afterwards. For just a Thursday Friday Saturday pit pass it was $135 and I couldn't even sit down and watch a race. The chili bowl has become an elite club race, it may as well be an invitational. They need to start paying the competitors and it's finally time to make some rules. I know full well that at the end of day resources resourcefulness preparation and talent equal wins, but at least give some people a shot. End of rant.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
The more I think about it Sammy would've been better off position to stop go to the tail and have a shot at moving up, but he didn't and feel he did this to directly impact the outcome, very bad deal for our sport. I used to love watching him at the dome when I was a kid, but I have lost a bit of respect for him now for sure. I don't watch WOO so I have no idea how he's been doing over there or if he even still races sprints.

Another Cheap Shot from Sammy!!!.....
Thats how I saw it,hopefully as well as many others!!...not sure of laps down, when Sammy checked up for car in front of him, outa 2 , Larson had no where to go...running over Sammy turning him towards infield, but like all have said he had some issues to resolve with a few!!...hes been round long enough to know ALL the rules bout cutting the coarse!!....that Sammy deal just may have broke an oil line on Larson's no name Motor identifier on a hood that said Cartwheel!!...where resta Kuhns cars say Toyota!!...hasta be a conflick issue with his Chev. Cup deal!!.......

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
Regardless of what happened on the track to cause the incident, I thought it was weird the way they scored Sammy after he cut through the infield and let him keep his place in line. I think moving him to the back of the field at the next caution - or even thrown a caution when he cut through - would have been more proper.

Larsons car was sponsored by Target. The cartwheel thing was a Target sponsorship deal. It was a regular Toyota engine same as other Kunz cars. Alex Bright drove a hell of a race, and hundreds of people at the race saw that and were congratulating him in the pits after the race, and he really was enjoying the good feedback from the fans. Clausen and Bell drove a great race. Even if you hate Sammy, after the races he was signing autographs for the kids in his pit area. Many of those cars in the A feature were good well prepared regular midgets and with a great driver ,any of them can win. Yes, several cars there are only Chili bowl cars, and I am all for no more square tail tanks and a set of scales at the top of the ramp. That's the only rules they need to even up the field a bit. Alex Bright is proof that their is hope for the other 250 cars and drivers that they might just race there way into the A feature. Bottom line is generally ,with a little luck involved, the best drivers are still the ones in the A main.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
I also am glad that Alex Bright did so well. Hope he comes to the Midwest again for Illinois and Indiana Midget Weeks. Not only is he an excellent driver, but a truly nice guy. I wish him the best of luck in 2014.

And give Clausen some credit. He drove a perfect race. Jump the cushion once and Kevin would have won it.

Good grief, isn't it the flagman's job to tell drivers where to get in line? I wasn't aware driver's could pick from two or three options. Yes, I know that Sammy can exhibit the personality of a wet paint brush but if he gave a million dollars to the charity of his choice there would be people on here calling him cheap 'cause he didn't give a million and one.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
Sammy going thru the infield like he did is no different than somebody sliding off the top of the banking at Bloomington and loosing 10 spots plus having the leader go by.... it took him a lap and a half to run a lap, he got passed by the leader then the yellow came out.. hes a lap down just like everyone else the leader passed. And just like back in the day when every track was more interested in a fair race than dumbing down the show so new people could follow along, lapped cars stay in line. If BC had to pass em by golly Bell and Rico and Bright and Bulldog and everybody else should have to work their way around em to get a shot a winning.
But it sure doesn't get much more blatantly dirty than Kevins treatment to Bell and more blatantly obvious than Sammys attempt at screwing anybody and everybody out of a racetrack to use.. It's just a good thing BC got by him clean and had a good enough car to get away from those 2 on each restart or who knows how dirty it woulda got trying to get the 39 in the lead. |
One final thought on all this. I feel Sammy knew exactly what he was doing out there. His collision with Larson was a lucky break for son Kevin as that helped him take out one of their toughest competitors. Then the next one on his hit list was Christopher then it would have been up to Kevin to get past BC. It almost worked out except it was to late in the race for Kevin to catch Clauson. Sammy should be proud of his efforts to take out two of the top challengers and I'm sure Keith's not to happy with him. Sammy, not sure who is going to protect Kevin on the race track when ever you decide to retire or maybe that's why you haven't retired. I get the name now "Slammin Sammy" cause it sure fits.

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
All a person has to do is watch the race to see that Sammy didn't intentionally take out Larson, which took himself out of a chance of winning.
|
Re: Cheap shot Sammy
To say that Sammy intentionally took out Larson is ridiculous in my opinion... people just love to get in on this "pilin' on" thing with Swindell. Yes, his personality is and on camera demeanor is lacking to say the least, but some of his criticism is just not warranted

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
Don't like the rule that they put the lapped cars inbetween lead lap cars I know it should be fair that all cars should lap them but you get a situation like saturday when sammy could block for kevin. too bad it would of been a good race between bell and clauson but im glad clauson won. (sammy should of been black flagged for going through the infield he could of hit a hooters girl)

Re: Cheap shot Sammy
Worse yet he could've FLATTENED a Hooters Girl!! :5:
